Volume 43 Number 8 First Bapst Church Monroe: Family, Friends, Faith February 25, 2015 Announcements It is a thrill to welcome our friend Ken Smith back to Monroe for a one-day revival this Sunday. Ken will be preaching at each of our services in the morning. Then at 6:00 p.m. we will regather for an exciting combined service in the sanctuary. This special joint service will feature music from all three of our worship leaders and teams. It is going to be a most wonderful day at FBC. Ken is as active and in demand as ever. Just this week he has spoken at the national FCA gathering in San Antonio and today is traveling to Greenville, South Carolina, with Coach Bowden for another FCA event. Among coaches, athletes, pastors, and lay folks, you find no greater friend and influence than this man. I have been blessed to call him friend, coach, and mentor for the better part of 30 years. One of the things that has brought me the most joy in being your pastor has been watching our church's relationship with Ken become as treasured as my own. Ken will also be our special guest at First and Goal on Monday before he leads a pastor's conference for a group I am part of the next day. We anticipate a fine turnout for our early morning gathering, with good reason. Ken is simply at his best when he speaks from the heart in gatherings such as these. I know I leave feeling like a better Christian, a better man, and a person of greater hope and purpose each time I am with him. Folks, don't let the demands of life crowd these rare and wonderful opportunities out. Better still, as you plan to come, bring a friend or two. You will be glad you did, and I promise you, so will they. Dr. Todd Ware,

Associate Pastor

Our family has been in a bit of a daze since last Thursday. As

many of you know, our youngest son Zachary had a sec-ond grand mal seizure while riding in a vehicle with a friend; his first was in February of 2013. I had just arrived in Toccoa with the staff for the deacons’ retreat when my wife Teri called and told Glen what was happening. I had left my phone in my jacket pocket with the ringer turned off. Alex Boskoff drove me to St. Mary’s Hospital where I found Joy Boskoff and a couple of friends with Teri and Zachary in the emergency room. After three or four hours of observation, the doctor released Zachary and we returned home where Zachary would sleep and rest for the better part of the next 24 hours. In addition to being thankful for Zachary’s safety and for a caring church family, I was proud of his teenage friend who handled the situation with such maturity. I texted his friend to tell him thanks. He replied, “No prob-lem, Mr. Ware. Zach is a brother to me.” What powerful words! “No problem, Mr. Ware. Zach is a brother to me.” Not only had Zachary’s friend taken care of my son, he had done so out of a heart of love and compassion. He was motivated by a deep sense of connection to his friend. He was living out the gospel. My prayer is that I will also know such a love for others as I seek to be a faithful follower of Jesus. Amen.

Doorstep Visits We are looking for a few nice people who are willing to give one hour on a Sunday afternoon one Sun-day a month. Are you one of those people? If you are, meet in the fellowship hall at 4 p.m. this Sunday afternoon. I’ll explain how to make a painless doorstep visit, and then we’ll create teams that will be assigned to one Sunday a month. Maybe you can’t visit but would like to bake cook-ies to send with our teams – that would be great. Just let me know and we’ll get you on one of our teams as well.
