Last I interviewed 17 year old
Emma Jones, she is counselor
assistant for Book Cooks. She
enjoys being the counselor assis-
tant for Book Cooks. She ex-
plained that “while the counselor
is running back and forth from
the kitchen I read the stories to
the little kids and help them out.”
If you wish to sign up your child
for this camp or join in on anoth-
er week. Sadly you will have to
wait for the 2017-2018 summer
to join in because this was Book
Cooks last week. All in all I would
recommend this camp for par-
ents with small children who love
stories and learning how to make
delicious recipes.
Earlier this week I went down to
Academy at the Lakes and went
to their Lower Division and found
Book Cooks and some young little
campers drawing some funny
faces on paper and preparing a
dish with English muffins, cheese
and ham It looked like they were
having fun so I decided to go see
what all the fun is about.
I spoke to Lorenzo Bogato who is
8 years old and goes to Academy
at the Lakes. He said they make 2
dishes a day. They make one in
the first half of their camp and
they go take a break and play on
the playground. They come back
in and make another dish. He
says he enjoys camp at Academy
at the Lakes.
Next, I spoke to Cole Genovese
he is 5 years old and goes to
Academy at the Lakes as well. He
said he enjoys camp at Academy
at the Lakes. He also told me that
one day they made pancakes
after reading a story about some
bunnies who made some pan-
cakes. He loves the cooking part
of Book Cooks.
Upon arriving at archery camp in
the morning, I noticed they were
ready to shoot and have a lot of
fun, partly because they were in
the cool shade of the pavilion. I
was able to interview, Evan, a
CA, who is in 11th grade. He
said it is fun for him to instruct
kids as well show them how to
have a good time. They usually
they do a contest on Friday be-
cause the kids need more time to
improve there’re skills during the
week. Evan’s favorite thing in the
camp is to coach the campers
and model for good shooting
technique so they get better. On
Tuesdays the campers learn
about different bows. The next
day they practice with the bows.
Evan say, “Overall the kids pro-
gress over time.
I also interviewed a camper who
attends John Long Middle School
and has been a camper at Acade-
my at the Lakes for three years.
Every year he has chosen archery
camp in the morning. His favor-
ite achievement in the camp is
getting a bullseye. He usually uses
a 20 pound bow to shoot. This
year is his best because he sees
himself getting better with his
accuracy and precision. The next
time you sign up for camp at
Academy at the Lakes, give ar-
chery a try. It is on point!

Five Night at Freddy’s by Kylee Guerra
Five Night at Freddy’s or
FNAF is a video game made by
Scott Cothen. This game is a
thriller and a scary scary
game!!
I personally would recommend
this game because I love scary
games.
The first game is a little bor-

The second game is really
intense and fun because it has
more characters than the first
one.
The third one is very very
very INTENSE. You must re-

The fourth one is not scary, it
is TERRIFYING because of the
nightmare animatronics. I

makes this camp amazing.
7 year old Parker Wease, who

was able to interview. When I
asked him what do you do in this
camp? He replied, “Flag Football,
Sharks and Minos, and sometimes
Pacman.” He signed up for this
camp because he likes flag football
and has not played in a long time.
He excitedly said he would sign up
for this camp next year. He also
added, “My favorite part is when
we play flag football games.
Coach Brown coaches track, girls
high school basketball, and high
school football. He likes to teach
this camp because he likes to play
football with the kids. Next I asked
why should someone attend this
camp? Coach Brown responded to
my question with a laugh “because
we play fun games, and work on
flag football skills.”
I was able to conclude flag football

In France, people like to make
a wish before flipping their
pancakes. They do this while
holding a coin in the other
hand.
Freshly fallen snow had been
used as a secret ingredient in
pancakes, before baking soda
was invented, this gave the
pancakes a soft texture.
One of the most popular top-
ping on pancakes is maple
syrup, which is actually a sweet
tree sap that comes from the
maple tree found in Canada.
Maple syrup was first discov-
ered by Native Americans.
It is customary in France to
touch the handle of the frying
pan and make a wish while the
pancake is turned, holding a
coin in one hand.
Maple Syrup was originally a
sweet drink, discovered by the
Algonquin Indians who collect-
ed sap from Canadian sugar
maple trees and then boiled to
produce the delicious bever-
age.
It is customary in France to

Pancakes have a long history,
dated back to the times of
Ancient Romans and it was
believed in the Middle Ages
that the first three pancakes
cooked were spiritual. They
were each marked with a
cross before being sprinkled

I love anime!!
My Top Recommended Anime Lauren Montes De Oca
You might have a friend that
say like “Omg I love anime so
much” and I bet you might
have been like “What in the
world is anime?” Well here’s a
brief explanation of anime.
Anime is cartoon that originat-
ed in japan or an author came
up with manga series and it
was turned into an anime se-
ries. Also manga is graphic
novel of anime and manga is
pronounced Ma-n-Ga. The A
in the begging is pronounced
like Ah so think of it as MAH-
GA note it is NOT spelled
MAHNGA its spelled MAN-
GA. Also anime’s can also
originate from video games
some examples are Dangan-
ronpa and IdolM@sters.
There are many companies
that translate anime from Japa-
nese to English an example of
one is Funimation.
But wait your probably won-
dering “Where do I watch
anime?” Well there are many
options but here’s what I
would recommend to watch it
off of www.kissanime.io , Net-
flix and crunchy roll. Anime is
either subbed or dubbed.
Subbed is when the anime is in
Japanese but there are subti-
tles at the bottom telling you
what the characters are saying
in English. Dubbed is when
there are no subtitles and the
characters are speaking in
English.
Although I’ve have had more
people tell me that they prefer
subtitles rather it speaking in
English the choice is up to you
to watch it whether you want
to watch it with subtitles or in
English.
Now onto the part you’ve
been waiting for anime I rec-
ommend for people who are
just starting to watch anime.
Fairy Tail
Fairy Tail is about a girl named
Lucy Heartfillia who wishes to
join a magical guild named
Fairy Tail. But when she meets
Natsu Dragneel her wish
comes true. Together adven-
tures await them and trouble
seems not stop following them.
Sword Art Online
A proper abbreviation for this
anime is SAO. SAO is about a
virtual reality video game
where thousands of players
have already logged on but
little do they know that the
creator of the game has them
trapped in the game till some-
one can beat the boss on floor
100. Once they knew about
the threat a boy name Kirito is
determined to beat the boss
and return to the real world as
he makes new friends along
the way.
Sailor Moon
This anime goes back to the
90’s. Sailor Moon is about a
girl named Serena one day she
discovers that she is the leg-
endary warrior Sailor Moon
and she has to fight the evil
minions of the Negaverse
while also finding the other
Sailor Scouts and defeat the
evil queen Beryl.
Yuri On Ice!!!
This anime won best anime of

ing the current ice skating
season he decides to retire but
not to Victor he won’t. Victor
is gold medal winning ice skat-
er from Russia. He meets Yuri

Fun for the Little Ones by Kylee Guerra Today I traveled across the
campus to visit the youngest
campers on the Academy at
the Lakes campus. Little Rec is
specially designed for three
and four year olds. I wanted to
check out this camp because
three and four year olds are
the cutest age! In addition,
they just starting to speak,
often with a little lisp.
When I entered the classroom,
I saw a shelf full of books and a
student immediately asking me
to read Five LIttle Monkeys
Jumping on the Bed to her. For
a brief time I shared the book
and pictures, but as with most
preschoolers, she only attend-
ed to the book for a short
while. Then she walked away
to join her class to go outside.
I interviewed little four year
old Owen Wells. Owen is in
Pre Kindergarten and attends
Academy at the Lakes. He
explained that he plays, sings,
and takes naps. After I talked
to him he had to finish some-
thing very important. This was
his bag of oreos. After every-
one was finished with their
snacks they went outside to
play in the baby pools.
When they were outside, little
Naomi Steward, Daniel Carr,
and Owen splashed into the
pools. While Victoria Peter-
son, and Chloe Thomas head-
ed straight to the green and
purple sand box.
I also interviewed 17 year old
Cassidy Fowler, who is a coun-
selor at Little Rec. She attends
AATL. I asked her why little
ones should experience this
camp. “This camp is great for
your 3-4 year olds, because
they get to interact with other
kids and gets lots of exercise.”
One things is for sure, pre-
schoolers will never be bored
in Little Rec!!

I want to be a musician when I grow up and I am inspired by the great band Led Zeppelin.
Ask me any questions about the band and I will know the
answer. Here’s an introduc-
tion.
Led Zeppelin formed in 1968. Before that Jimmy Page was in a band called the Yard Birds. Jimmy Page with his guitar with a dragon painted on it. In 1968 the Yard Birds broke up.
Jimmy Page had a friend, and his name was John Paul Jones. He was a base player, he heard that Jimmy Page was forming a band. John called Jimmy and asked if he could join the band.
Jimmy said that John could join the band. Jimmy went to look for new band members.
Jimmy Page found Robert Plant in West Bromwich, Staffordshire England. Jimmy had Robert plant join the band, but jimmy needed a drummer still.
It so happens Robert had a friend who was a drummer but was already in a band.
Jimmy found him and per-suaded the drummer John Bonham to quit the band and join Jimmy’s band.
Finally Jimmy had a band John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and John Bonham. First they came out with Led Zeppelin 1 their first album.
Jimmy Page bought a Les Paul guitar in 1969 from him. Jimmy Page used the guitar until 1973 which is when they filmed the song “Remains the Same,” a famous Led Zeppelin con-cert. In 1974 Jimmy Page bought a backup Les Paul guitar.

Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Update by Michael Jiang
Roger Federer has won the
Wimbledon Tennis Tourna-
ment championship!
You can see the replay live on
Wednesday 8 pm. You can see
him going in action, not holding
back.
It was 5-5 when he made the
final strike and ending the
match and winning the champi-
onship. He hit some breathtak-
ing shots during the champion-
ship match.
He won all 3 sets, first set 6-3,
second set 6-1, and third set 6-
4.
Playing against Marin Cilic, he
was a game early opponent,
but still Federer wasn’t holding
back like I said and Cilic lost
control but quickly stepped up
and brought up his A game.
Both of them were playing
hard, trying their best in the
match. Cilic made some amaz-
ing scenes as well, too. There
was a lot going on and the fans
kept their eyes peeled on the
action. Anyways, you can see
the replay on Wednesday, so
you can be able to see the
action.
Lewis and Clark’s “Duo of Art” by Denzyl Downing
P A G E 1 3 V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1
I love science and I am fasci-nated by the plethora of new
species discovered by the great expedition team of Lew-
is and Clark. Read on to find out more about this dynamic
duo!
Lewis and Clark are known to be some of the most hard-
working and smartest explor-ers to ever exist. They have
gathered so much
information about the Louisiana Pur-
chase and the Ore-gon Country that no
one had ever known. Lewis and Clark
should be taught for education purposes more often to teach
students about their study habits; fortunately, to improve
a student’s note taking and
studying for any class.
Meriwether Lewis and Wil-
liam Clark were both born in Virginia. Lewis was born on
August 18th, 1774. Clark was born on August 1st, 1770.
Both of these men are experi-enced woodsmen, explorers,
and army officers. In the
1800s, Virginia was the
richest and most populated British colony to exist.
This was also the time that the Declaration of Inde-
pendence, Bill of Rights, and Constitutional Con-
vention took place. Both men worked for the U.S. president, Thomas Jeffer-
son, to explore the new Louisiana Purchase and the
Oregon Country. They split up into two groups
and have succeeded to cross both areas and come
back within two years.
Lewis and Clark’s discov-eries are some of the best
to ever be discovered. From learning over 200
new plant and animal spe-
cies to planning new agri-cultural uses of the new
areas. Lewis and Clark as a team have worked their
butts off, exploring almost half of the now United
States of America. The reason Lewis and Clark
have succeeded their jour-ney to explore the Louisi-
ana Purchase and Oregon Country is because of their
skilled and detailed note taking. Study and take
notes like the dynamic duo, Meriwether Lewis
and William Clark.

she is learning. “The skills I am
learning are catching fish and
building tents. I wondered
what Sofia likes about the
camp and she explained, “I like
that you can go fishing and it’s
a really good opportunity (to
learn how to survive).”
Next I interviewed CA Ms.
Jessica. Ms. Jessica has a fun
time being a CA because she
wants to be around kids. As a
CA she watches the campers
The day I visited Trailblazers
Camp, I observed them build-
ing blue and gray tents behind
the gymnasium on the grassy
lawn. The campers were all
smiles as they worked togeth-
er and cooperated to fix the
tents. I looked forward to
interviewing the campers to
find out why Trailblazers Camp
is fun.
4th grader Sofia attends Odes-
sa School. She explained what
and makes sure that there safe.
All in all, Trailblazers Camp is a
wonderful three hours to in-
teract and learn how to camp
and fish. If you have a wild side,
consider joining Trailblazers

Harry Potter by Elli Wease Harry Potter is a magical char-
acter made by JK Rowling.
Harry Potter has many stories
told in different ways in books
and in movies. JK Rowling’s
Harry Potter books have won
many awards. JK Rowling also
created Harry’s best friends
Hermione Granger, Hagrid,
and Ronald Weasley.
There are 8 Harry Potter
books and 8 movies starting
with The Sorcerers Stone ending
with The Cursed Child.
Harry Potter is known as the
boy who lived, after Lord
Voldemort killed Lily and
James Potter. He tried to kill
Harry but the power of love
took over so he couldn’t. After
his parents death, Professor
Albus Dumbledore left Harry
with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle
Vernon, and his annoying
cousin Dudley. After that Har-
ry lived a miserable life with
the Dursleys.
After 11 years there was still
one thing Harry didn’t know.
He didn’t know he was a wiz-
ard, until one day Harry went
to get the mail and a letter
from Hogwarts was right there
for him. Harry went inside to
open the letter but Dudley
snatched it out of his hands
and Uncle Vernon took it from
him and ripped it up. For the
next week Hogwarts letter
kept coming through the chim-
ney, mail, and owls. So the
Dursleys and Harry went to a
little shack on an island. On
the first night Hagrid burst in
and told harry he was a wizard.
Within that second Harry’s
whole life changed.
After that Harry went with
Hagrid to Diagon Alley to buy
his wizard supplies for Hog-
warts. A couple weeks later
Harry started school at Hog-
warts, was put in Gryffindor,
Made the Quidditch team, met
his enemy Draco Malfoy, and
met his least favorite teacher
Professor Snape. Right there
he started his many adventure
such as killing Voldemort, kill-
ing a basilisk and many more.
In the movie Harry Potter is a
Daniel Radcliffe. Ronald Wea-
sley is as Rupert Grint. Hermi-
one Granger is Emma Watson.
Professor Snape is Alan Rick-
man. Draco Malfoy is Tom
Felton. Hagrid is Robbie Col-
trane. Albus Dumbledore is
Richard Harris. Petunia Durs-
ley is Fiona Shaw. Vernon
Dursley is Richard Griffiths.
Dudley Dursley is Harry
Melling. Voldemort is Richard
Bremmer.
I can go ahead and say Harry
Potter seems like an exciting
series.

Flag Football - Break Time!! by Davis Kincade

When I think of Flag Football
Camp, drills come to mind. Taking
a ball and running to the other side
of the cone. They are developing
their speed. It felt very exciting
when I visited this camp.
Coach Brown
likes teaching
Flag Football.
He can have
fun with kids
and watch
them learn
how to play
the sport.
Flag football
is a great way
to play the
sport of foot-
ball and learn
it without any full contact. He
allows them to play a game called
Pac-man for strategy practice.
There are drills they do such as
doing running back plays. This is
great practice to remember how
certain positions play in the sport.
Sven is going into 4th grade and he
says he likes watching the sports
movies Coach Brown provides for
them. One of the movies they
watched was called Air Bud. This
movie was about a dog that was
good at sports. These movies are
great for younger children to enjoy
the concept of sports. All of the
kids love summer camp Flag Foot-
ball and recommend it to other
students during the summer who
want to learn about football. If you
want to be a future Tampa Bay
Buccaneer, you should sign up for
Flag Foot Camp at Academy at the
Lakes!

Pour 1/8 of the mixture into a hot
waffle iron and bake for about 2
minutes.
Repeat with the remaining batter.
Top with your favorite fruit and

My Favorite Pancakes by Stephanie Morales DIRECTIONS
In large bowl, whisk eggs, milk,
yoghurt and lemon zest until
smooth.
Add flour and sugar and whisk
again until smooth.
Batter should be dropping
consistency; if too thick, add
more milk; if too runny, and
add more flour.
Heat large skillet/pan to medi-
um. I don't use a spray as long
as pans are nonstick. Test heat
of pan by dropping water on it;
water should sizzle in drops.
Using 1/4 cup measure, drop
batter into pan ( I get three
per pan) and cook until bub-
bles form and pop on surface
(sides will start to look cooked
rather than runny), flip and
cook until golden. Second side
will only take 30-60 seconds.
Serve hot, in stacks of three,
layered with bacon strips. Top
with banana and raspberries,
and of course (real) maple
syrup! Yum!
