CURRENT TRAINING ISSUES Flight deck crew readiness, refresher, and certification training opportunities are limited. The training pipeline and available technology for flight deck crew initial training is often limited or outdated. Flight deck crew members are often sent to other underway carriers for refresher training and readiness sustainment. This is costly to the ship and logistically challenging. This practice results in crew members not training with their actual team members. In the case of the new Ford Class carriers, crew members are not training on the correct Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE). Lack of female berthing on other ships also presents limited opportunity to train female flight deck crew members. SOLUTION FEATURES The goal of TEP is to create an expandable framework of game engine based, immersive 3D flight deck crew Training Expansion Packs (TEPs) for use by trainees in Fleet Concentration Areas (FCAs), based on a training needs analysis. 3D game engine simulation baseline with multi- player capability to support all flight deck teams (up to 100 players). No stovepipe training. Initial development will focus on Primary Flight Control (Pri-Fly) and Landing Signal Officers (LSOs). The TEPs will allow for individual, team, or multi- team training events. Example: An individual LSO can train with Artificially Intelligent (AI) teammates, four LSOs can train together, or the LSOs can train with the entire Pri-Fly team. Allows for normal operations and emergency conditions (including faults). Trains both legacy and new ALRE, and allows users to select and train on their specific aircraft carrier layout. A quantitative study to identify training effectiveness and learning impact for flight deck crews will be conducted.
