2. FLEXIBILITYThe city must be fl exible. In the future, ad-justments can be made when necessary.

GRID STRUCTURE

The grid structure deli-veres the fl exibility to easily make changes in the layers of the plan.

The grid with squares of 130 m by 130 meter gives the oppertunity to offer variation inside neigh-bourhoods with the same density.

2. FLEXIBILITY

ROADS ABOVE GROUNDThe grid makes it easy to connect al the housing areas and farms in the green wedges together.

The grid in the skew builtup fi nger is turned 45 degrees to make bet-ter connections between the city boulevards and the sidestreets.

Page 11: Food City - Eindpresentatie

2. FLEXIBILITY

GREEN & WATER STRUCTUREThe water system is well connected to the existing polder landscape struc-ture by the grid. Water can be drained easily to the surrounding land-scape.

Because the green axis follow the grid, it be-comes a closed network. Public functions and residential areas are well connected by green because of this.

The green axis always leads you to the green outdoor areas (green fi ngers).

Waste is collected in waste bins inside housing blocks or public build-ings and on strategically placed waste collection points in neighbourhoods

Waste is transported with air through tunnels to the outside of the city where it is collected in a biomass factory.Waste >> Energy + heat

MIX WITH PUBLIC FUNCTIONS [mixed use]

There should be meeting places in the city which are linked to the food production to create awareness

CREATE LAYERS OF FUNCTIONS [mixed use]

The principle of stacking functions is used to use the available space more effi ciently. This happens in-side and outside the city.

4. MERGING STEPSZOOM IN

4 loops in our city

Every loop has his own effi cient food chain.

Zoom in of one of the loops in the city.

The beginning of the loop is in the cultivation area. This is where the central production of the food takes place.

The next step in the chain is the stor-age and the processing of the food.

After processing, the food will be transported to the inhabitants.

The inhabitants will buy their food in supermarkets.

The last steps in the food chain are consumption and waste, and this will close the circle.

Page 34: Food City - Eindpresentatie

FOOD CITY PRINCIPLES - CHOICE - FLEXIBILITY - FOOD INTEGRATION - MERGING STEPS - KEY PROJECTS - ?

4. MERGING STEPSFOOD LOOPS

Food is placed on the system in the factories and enters the city on the city boul-evard in the straight built up fi nger. It leaves the city via the city core and the skew fi nger.

Page 35: Food City - Eindpresentatie

FOOD CITY PRINCIPLES - CHOICE - FLEXIBILITY - FOOD INTEGRATION - MERGING STEPS - KEY PROJECTS - ?

5. PHASINGPHASE 1

The fi rst phase of the city starts with a small agglomeration of people from groups 3 and 4 and a group of inhabitants from group 1 and 2 that will establish along the urban boulevard. In this phase, the fi rst fi elds for food production will be realized.

Page 36: Food City - Eindpresentatie

FOOD CITY PRINCIPLES - CHOICE - FLEXIBILITY - FOOD INTEGRATION - MERGING STEPS - KEY PROJECTS - ?

5. PHASINGPHASE 2

The two agglomerations grow along the city boulevard toward each other.

The food loop can partially be taken into use.

Page 37: Food City - Eindpresentatie

FOOD CITY PRINCIPLES - CHOICE - FLEXIBILITY - FOOD INTEGRATION - MERGING STEPS - KEY PROJECTS - ?

5. PHASINGPHASE 3

The building evolves and expands.

There is more farming needed because more people live in the city.

Along the city boulevard will come more food distribution points.

Page 38: Food City - Eindpresentatie

FOOD CITY PRINCIPLES - CHOICE - FLEXIBILITY - FOOD INTEGRATION - MERGING STEPS - KEY PROJECTS - ?

5. PHASINGPHASE 4

The built fi nger is getting bigger. The city boulevard is extended so that in future the same principle of the built fi nger can repeat.

Page 39: Food City - Eindpresentatie

FOOD CITY PRINCIPLES - CHOICE - FLEXIBILITY - FOOD INTEGRATION - MERGING STEPS - KEY PROJECTS - ?

5. PHASINGPHASE 5

The built-fi nger and the green wedge with the foodloop is a good working system. Ready to be repeated.
