Food Chain
• a community of organisms where each member is eaten in turn by another member
• A logical order of producers eating consumers
What is a producer?
• Producers make their own food and provide food and shelter for animals.
• Examples: A tree is a producer that provides leaves for giraffes to eat (a leaf is a product like cheese)
What is a consumer?
• Anything that eats to get energy and nutrients from other organic substances. (Can’t make their own food)
• Ex: The giraffe is a consumer because he eats the leaves.

What is a Food Web?
• a community of organisms where there are several interrelated food chains
• So…a large group of food chains put together
Your Turn!
• With your group: make your own food web with at least 20 characters with logical food chains
• Label whether they are a consumer or producer or both
• If they are a consumer, label if they are: herbivore, omnivore, carnivore
• We will share them in about 10 minutes– You may name your characters if you Have time to at the end!!
