Tour Itinerary:

Corinth

Sept 10 Fri Depart Home Airport to Istanbul (IST)

Sept 11 Sat Arrive Istanbul and transfer to Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) Our Greece guide will meet you after customs and baggage claim with an “TUTKU” sign. Brief city tour visiting the city walls, White Tower, and statue of Alexander the Great on way to your hotel in Thessaloniki. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki. (D)

Sept 12 Sun THESSALONICAPaul established the church here on his second journey (Acts 17:1-9) and later wrote two letters to the Thessalonians. We will visit the agora mentioned in Acts and the nearby Church of St. Demetrius, patron saint of the city. Later we will visit the outstanding Museum of Archaeology and the Byzantine Museum. We will conclude with a walking tour of the Arch of Galerius and Rotunda. Dinner and overnight Thessaloniki (B,D)

Sept 13 Mon NEAPOLIS, PHILIPPI, AMPHIPOLISWe will drive to the port of Neapolis where Paul landed in Europe on his second journey and walk on the ancient Via Egnatia (Acts 16:11). Later we will visit the Roman colony of Philippi (Acts 16:12–40). Paul wrote a letter to its church while in prison. We later stop in Amphipolis (Acts 17:1) to see the famous lion. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki. (B,D)

Sept 14 Tue BEREA, ACTIUM, NICOPOLISOur first stop is in Berea where Paul preached in the synagogue (Acts 17:10-4). We then drive on the new Via Egnatia toward Greece’s west coast. Near Hagios Georgios we’ll see the spectacular remains of a Roman aqueduct. At Actium Octavian defeated Antony in the famous battle in 31 BC. We visit Nicopolis and its archaeology museum where Paul spent the winter (Titus 3:12) Dinner and overnight in Preveza (B,D)

Sept 15 Wed DELPHIWe drive to Delphi to visit the site of the famous Apollo oracle and its museum where we’ll see the famous inscription of Gallio, whom Paul met in Corinth (Acts 18:12-17). Dinner and overnight in Delphi. (B,D)

Sept 16 Thu CORINTHWe cross to the Peloponnese via Patras and come to Corinth visited by Paul on his second and third journeys (Acts 18:1-17; 20:2) and to whom he wrote two letters. We first stop at the Diolkos which carried ships across the isthmus. After making a brief stop at the canal, we then visit the archaeological site and museum. We next drive up to the Acro-Corinth to get an overview of the area. Dinner and overnight in Corinth. (B,D)

Sept 17 Fri LECHAION, EPIDAURUS, ARGOS, MYCENAE, NEMEAOur first brief stop is at the eastern harbor of Cenchrae where Paul cut his hair because of a vow (Acts 18:18) and Phoebe served as deacon (Romans 16:1-2). We then visit Epidaurus, one of the healing centers of Asclepius and three other important Greek cities in the area. Dinner and overnight in Athens. (B,D)

Sept 18 Sat ATHENSWalking tour of Athens with visit to the acropolis to see the Parthenon; then climb the Aeropagus/Mars Hill where Paul preached (Acts 17:16-34). We then descend to the Greek agora and its Stoa Museum. After lunch there is free time to visit the Roman agora, shopping in the Plaka district, or to visit the Acropolis Museum. Dinner and overnight in Athens (B,D)

Sept 19 Sun PIRAEUS, AEGINAVisit the port of Piraeus where Paul landed when he arrived at Athens (Acts 17:15) and its archaeology museum. Then ferry to the island of Aegina to see the temple of Aphaia and the archaeology museum with its mosaic from the ancient synagogue. Dinner and overnight in Athens (B,D)
