Vision for Post-16 Education at Ashby School
We strive constantly to make sure that our students receive THE BEST Post 16 experience possible whether they go straight into employment/training or enter higher education

A Government change …..• By 2017, all courses will be linear which means that all
exams will be taken at the end of Year 13.
• Next year, all subjects will be on the new A level programme except the following :-• Maths, further maths, design, textiles , engineering,
hospitality, media , music technology and film.
• Impact on students: • All students will select 4 main subjects to study to A
level.
• In February, they will decide which one they wish to drop in Year 13 and take as an AS.
• If they are only at Ashby for a year, they will take all AS exams in Year 12.
• Exceptions will be considered.
AS and A2 Level Qualifications
• At the end of Year 12, internal examinations will be taken
• Work will be closely monitored during the year with essays and unit tests
• Predictions for UCAS and jobs will be made on a combination of these two
• A small group of subjects will still have external AS exams in summer 2017 and these will be used to determine predicted grades and progression
We specialise in Level 3 courses AS, A2 level and
BTEC National Certificate…
• One or two year courses
• We offer 30 courses at Advanced level - extensive choice…website/option booklet/ prospectus
• Students choose 4 options plus an enrichment subject
• In Year 13, students take 3 or 4 A2 Levels

At present a few students choose:
• Extended Project Qualification
or
• Core maths
Entry Requirements
5 A* - C at GCSE or equivalent – including mathematics & English Language
• Interview • 95% attendance in Year 11• Correct work ethic: we would not expect more than 15
negative points.
This is the minimum. Some subjects havehigher entry requirements.
Acceptance is only for Year 12 initially

• Personal tutor and staff in the Sixth Form pastoral office will help with a variety of issues
• Arranging work for absence/ illness• Assisting with personal problems• Bursaries are available to students with
financial difficulties • Disseminating information about courses,
work experience, visits• Assisting with university, apprenticeship and
employment applications• SENCO support

What happens next?
• Guidance interviews to advise on suitability will take place between February and March
• Compulsory Induction Day July 4th
• On results day August 25th -confirm acceptance of place within three days (later than usual)
