MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR

MESSAGE FROM CEO

Welcome to Oakbrook Business School. The Board takes the privilege of sensitising you to the changing metric of management education as it stands today. As most stakeholders can clearly see, be it a faculty or a student, organisations are functioning in a dynamic ecosystem largely driven by the digital revolution. Traditional management theories are being critically reviewed in the context of 21st century challenges. Theories are leaning more towards business practice models as courseware to create solid learning outcomes valued by industry.

The gurus of management education clearly accept its relevance stems from the fact that it is not a scientific discipline but a profession much like the field of medicine. Therefore it becomes extremely important that business school students today get certified for mastering an accepted body of knowledge before they can practice their skills, bear a commitment to the public good and abide by a code of ethics.

We trust and sincerely believe that managers of the 21st century will uphold their professional equity if they are willing to continuously reinvent themselves. This transformational journey will be immersive, challenging and yet satisfying. It is perhaps the best way for a B-School graduate to go.

Once again you are welcome to join in.

Experiential LearningExperiential Learning (EL) is the concept similar to “learning from the field”. In the process, students get a feel of organizational reality: what it is, how it works, and the relationship between diverse functions. Students are able to relate classroom teaching to organizational life. To that extent, the so-called gap between theory and reality is bridged.EL has two components:

Industrial Exposure in the first year, and Summer Training at the completion of the first year.

Summer TrainingEach student works in an organization, on a project for a period of about 8 weeks at the end of first year. The objective is to allow students, intense day-to-day interaction with organizations.

Summer Training provides exposure to the student to the working of an organization in the real life setting. It would also help students to develop managerial skills and competencies, and facilitate an informed career choice for the students.

OBS emphasizes on maximum Institutional learning and orientation from industry.

Industrial ExposureThe objective is to provide students early real-life exposure of organizations and to enrich learning experience through simultaneous inputs from theory and practice. During the first year, the students are taken on guided tours to organizations of different types in the locality: Small and Large, Manufacturing and Services, Profit and Non-Profit, Government and Private, etc. These visits give them an exposure to the complexity of management. It also highlights the relevance of some of the management concepts in different organizational settings.

Students acquire new skills and knowledge through their observations during their exposure to industrial visit.

ALUMNI SPEAKS

Pratiksha Tripathi (N K Logistics)When I finally got a green signal from Oakbrook Business School (OBS), I was overwhelmed. It was, is and will be a great honor to be a member of first batch of OBS. I was so excited in meeting new people on the first day in college. My journey started with Induction Programme followed by two industrial visits. Further we were exposed to Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp, Cleanliness Drive, Conclaves, Seminars, Section war, Sports day, Mumbai Industrial visit, Corporate Guest lectures, Summer internship and many more activities.

I got many improvements in myself such as confidence level, working manner, communication ability, presentation skills, soft skills, behave like a professional individual and working from 9am to 5pm. Not only just having a Gujarat Technical University degree certificate but OBS also helped me in clearing my concepts and getting hands on skills which are necessary and what employees look out for. After completing my MBA, I am presently working as a Marketing Executive with Navigators Logistics Ltd. My area of interest is in Supply Chain Management and that was the reason why I specialized in Marketing, and pursued my career in the same field further.

Honestly, choosing OBS was the best decision I made. Well trust me it's not just the college but ones attitude towards education that matters a lot. My journey so far at OBS was awesome because I feel at home. OBS has given me a life where there is a balance of education, social service and fun. The bottom line is this, if you show that you have the potential, you will be recognized and appreciated. That's what I felt through my experience at OBS.

Hiren Jayswal (Elsner Technologies)I would like to share my experience of academic learning at OBS which is rigorously helping me in my current professional life.

I'm working with Elsner Technologies as a Business Development Executive where I have to be very effective and efficient in terms of communication and I am performing well which is just because of the presentations, discussions and many more activities done by me during my post graduation at OBS.

I really feel proud to get a platform like OBS where I got a great guidance from the management and faculties.

At OBS, I acquired excellent managerial skills which are very useful for me today and will be for entire life just because of my learning at OBS.

Vishant Thakkar (KPMG)When I look back to the day I first came to Oakbrook Business School, I get nostalgic. MBA College is a lot different than other college. The first thing I noticed was the workload. It was heavier and more intense than I had ever experienced during my engineering days. The major challenges of college work are the large volume of reading, the short deadlines, and the writing, writing, writing.

Throughout my journey at Oakbrook Business School, I learnt the concepts of management and started to impart them in my life too. Oakbrook Business School gave me ample of opportunities to prove my calibre and develop my skills. At Oakbrook Business School I learnt just to be myself and follow my own style. For all that my college has done for me and still continues to do; I would like to thank all my professors, the management and all others from the bottom of my heart. I wish success to everyone who has touched upon my life and will always be at the service of college.

The key to success in corporate is all about how we apply the vast knowledge that we have to solve a complex business problem. In a nutshell, corporate life is not only about applying theories that we learn in MBA but bridging the gap with common sense.

As they say the college days are golden days and are never going to come back, I take back a bag full of memoirs and wonderful experiences. Lastly, I would like to say “If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must be different from the world.”

Page 42: FOR GLOBAL MANAGERIAL TALENToakbrook.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Oakbrook...• Global Country Study Report (GCSR) 2 • Comprehensive Project (CP–IDP) 1 • Summer Internship

Pooja Mishra (Bridge Built Solutions)When I completed MBA-HR, the only thing in my mind was to join an organization which will allow me to enter into HR operations. I got an opportunity to start as an HR Executive and roles covered 60% recruitment and 40% operations. Initially I did not like the role because of recruitment into it. Then over a period of time I realized that in any organization , an employee who brings turnover is recognized first and rewarded. Recruitment is a function which brings turnover to an organization , so it is an important HR function.

At Oakbrook Business School I have been constantly guided during my academics regarding the realities of business world through various case studies, HR conclaves, Industrial visits, etc. This helped me a lot in changing my opinion of recruiter profile job, which I ultimately experienced in the corporate world.

I am very thankful to all who guided me throughout my academic journey at OBS.

Khushboo Jagad (Standard & Poor Global Market Intelligence)11th April, 2016, the most important day in life when I step into my professional life. It has been an enriching experience working at S&P Global Market Intelligence. What I learned so far is, the right attitude which matters in professional life. Attitude of learning, attitude of sharing, attitude of listening and attitude of believing in yourself. You can learn and grow only when you have right attitude. It doesn't come all of sudden, you have to cultivate that. And in cultivating that Oakbrook Business School has played a very important role in my life. OBS has given a different prospective to the way I was looking to MBA and my professional career and because of that I was able to develop right attitude.

Being in quality control department of S&P Global, I know how much accuracy matters and to be accurate, you need to be focused, deliver on time and give attention to details. Each and every day I am learning something new hereby focusing on areas of improvement. So rightly said "learning is an ongoing activity."

Dharmik Bhatt (Vital Care Limited)My under graduation is Bachelor of Pharmacy & I have aspirations to become a Vice President in Pharmaceutical multinational. An MBA seemed the best option for me to pursue my dream.

I joined Oakrook Business School as it does not believe in imparting just bookish knowledge to students. Rather, OBS groom students to perform their best through their ability and creativity. OBS stands for corporate connectivity. At OBS, a student can correlate the theoretical concepts with live corporate examples via several college events like Seminars, Conclaves and through guest lecture.

Honestly, without OBS I would not have realized what all I have learned and how to apply it in corporate life.

All in all, OBS really gave me a head start in business knowledge and hopes for a bright future ahead. Today I am a Product Executive in the PMT department of Vital Care Ltd.

Saloni Parghi (Axis Bank)Here I am sharing my experience from graduation in OBS to my professional career.

I am very thankful to OBS for developing my skill, ability, knowledge and personality. At OBS what I learned is very useful in my professional career.
