As we walked down the main street, I simply popped into the best-looking office L.J. Hooker Real Estate. Two beautiful ladies at the reception asked me how they could help. I asked, "do you have a Rotary Club in Evans Head?" In one voice they said, "never heard". I said, I am from Burleigh Heads Rotary and would like to help introduce Rotary to this beautiful town and if they could help me meet their Director. They said "yes" and in seconds I was seated in front of the boss, Brian O'Farrell, a friendly gentleman. I introduced myself as Rotary International's District Governor for the area. Told him I was surprised there was no Rotary Club here when all around from Ballina, Alstonville, Goonellabah, Lismore, Casino, Iluka and Yamba has Rotary Clubs. He said, “I don't know anything about Rotary. We only have a Business Chamber, and I am the Vice President". I grabbed that opportunity and suggested Rotary could help him connect his business chamber with 36,000 cities in the world. He said, "good idea". I asked if he will be my community champion to introduce Rotary to his town. "Yes, was the answer. He invited me to join their first Business Expo that coming Sunday 24 th Oct. Neighbouring Rotary Club leaders from Ballina-on-Richmond, Lismore and Casino joined to extend support. We plan to charter this club in January 2021. If we want to attract new members or start new Rotary clubs, then we must leave the comfort of our Rotary meeting rooms and go to the streets, cafes, restaurants, and local markets to share our Rotary story. Congratulations Caitlin O’Connor. Caitlin has been accepted to attend the 2021 International Assembly. Only three are selected from Australia.

“I am incredibly humbled and excited at the opportunity and wanted to take this opportunity to thank the district for your support of Rotaract and in my journey so far. Without it, we would not be able to make as great of a difference as we have, nor would we be able to grow as individuals and young professionals as significantly as we do with your support”. - Caitlin

A wonderful day on the Gold Coast, riding Queensland trains to create awareness on the need to eradicate the Polio virus from the face of this earth and raise funds for Rotary's End Polio Campaign. It was a day of fun & collaboration between 100 Rotary clubs in 3 Rotary districts across South East QLD.

12 Gold Coast based clubs in District 9640 mustered 50+ members to join the train ride that ended in Varsity Lakes in our District. Thank you to our 12 clubs in District 9640 who helped raise A$25,000+ in one hour to support the Polio Immunization program in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
