Guy Drives From UK to Italy in Classic Ferraris to Pick Up New LaFerrari
This man owns all the Ferraris. From the GTO to the
F40— heck, even the F50 and the Enzo. London
collector James Hunt has nearly every pony car you can
think of in his London garage. There was one, though,
that he didn’t have yet — the stunning LaFerrari.
So, being the wealthy collector that he is, Hunt decided
a prestigious road trip was in order to gather up the
latest addition to his collection. Thanks to the generosity
of some friends and family, they all traveled about 900
miles, from London, in his four iconic Ferraris to pick up
his fifth.
Other than the fact it must have been one glorious drive,
it makes for one insanely cool photo-shoot. Listen to
what Hunt has to say about Ferrari, and his collection,
below. (Jeff Perez)

Ferrari 330 P4 is a Stunning Red Bolide
There are many beautiful cars in the world, and then
there is the Ferrari 330 P4 that outdoes practically all
of them. Combining more curves than Christina
Hendricks and the singing voice of Adele, it might just
be one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars ever
made. In its latest video, Petrolicious takes a look at
the sole remaining original P4 in existence and talks to
the lucky man who gets to drive it.
Ferrari Corsa instructor Nick Longhi has the enviable
task about getting behind the wheel of the V12 racer in
this video, and he says it doesn't drive the way you
might think. The P4 isn't out to bite drivers who aren't
paying attention. Instead, he claims that the car just
does everything right and helps the person at the
controls be that much better.
Historically, the P4 was Ferrari's attempt in the 1967
season to take on the dominating Ford GT40. The
Prancing Horse's major achievement that year was a
1-2-3 finish in the 24 Hours of Daytona, but it couldn't
quite beat the Ford at the famous race at Le Mans.

Arguably, the later Ferrari 312PB that Petrolicious
highlighted a few weeks ago sounds better, but it's got
absolutely nothing on the voluptuously elegant design of
the P4. Scroll down to learn about this thoroughbred of a
Prancing Horse with some fantastic cinematography.

Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale Up for Grabs
RM Auctions is to offer the first of only three 1964 Ferrari
275 GTB/C Speciales, chassis number 06701, at its
Monterey sale in California.
Few cars possess such desirability than this rare
example, with its two sibling cars unlikely to ever
become available, 06701's offering is a historic and
unrepeatable opportunity to acquire one of the world's
most important cars when it goes under the hammer
during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance week.
The headline attraction for RM Auctions' flagship
Monterey sale is predicted to comfortably achieve eight-
figures when it crosses the podium in California next
month.
The 275 GTB/C is the first of only three Berlinetta
Competizione cars built by Ferrari for FIA
homologation and factory development to compete at
the highest levels in endurance racing. Each vehicle
was uniquely hand-built, and all three were fitted with
super-lightweight aluminum bodywork and powered by
a type 213/Comp dry-sump engine topped with six
Weber carburetors, as first seen in the 250 LM. While
one of its sibling cars, chassis 06885 won its class at
Le Mans, 06701 was actually used as a road car from
new.
"06701's almost unbelievable rarity and high
performance are matched only by its stunning good
looks. Simply put, this is one of the most important
Ferraris in the world, and absolutely one of the most
important motor cars ever to come to auction," says
Shelby Myers, Senior Specialist, RM Auctions. "These
cars were a clear evolution of the GTO concept, one of
which set a record at Le Mans that stands to this day.
06701's two sister cars are in highly respected private
collections, from which they will certainly not emerge
in the near future" comments Myers.
The cars first owner was a successful businessman
who used it as his road car before one of the
subsequent owners maintained the vehicle for a 25
years. It later passed onto Ferrari collector Brandon
Wang who drove the car competitively in various
historic events, including the International Festival at
Goodwood, Tutte Le Ferrari in Mugello, and later, the
1997 Tour Auto, where it was piloted by Derek Hill,
with his father, 1961 Formula One World Champion
Phil Hill, serving as navigator.

Following a restoration which saw the car refinished in
its current two-tone silver and grey color scheme which it
wore very early in its life, the Ferrari 275 GTB/C
Speciale came into the ownership of its current owner. It
has been occasionally displayed at selected events,
including the 2002 FCA National Concours and the 2005
Cavallino Classic and it also took to the track at Laguna
Seca in 2005 for the Monterey Historics.
"06701 is a car whose appearance at auction will almost
certainly never happen again. One car, chassis 06885,
has been owned since 1970 by noted enthusiast Preston
Henn, who has clearly stated that he intends to continue
enjoying the jewel of his collection, which some
speculate may be the first motor car of any kind to sell
for the magic 'nine-figure' mark, should it ever become
available," adds auctioneer Max Girardo. "The third and
final car of the series, chassis 07185, is also part of a
prominent private collection and very unlikely to come up
for sale in the near future."
The Monterey sale takes place from 15-16 August.
For Sale: Four Ferraris for $30 million+
Another day, another multi-million dollar Ferrari auction.
Today it's the turn of the effortlessly graceful 250 GT
California Spider that headlines a spectacular line-up
of Prancing Horses.
Ah yes, the GT California Spider. Easily the prettiest
Ferrari ever made, no? This is a SWB version, with the
covered headlights that Scaglietti only applied to 37 of
the 56 Spiders built.
Not only that, but this particular car comes with a hard-
top as well, again one of few California drop-tops to
feature it. We're told it's lived a charmed life, including
ownership in the custody of Oscar-nominated actress
Barbara Hershey, as well as featuring at events like
the Concorso Italiano and Cavallino Classic.
And after a 14 year period, this car is now coming up
for sale at Gooding & Company's Pebble Beach sale
in August. The price estimate? A whopping $15
million, which is around £8.8 million. No surprise,
given that Chris Evans spent £5.5 million in 2008 on a
California Spider. Which he then grudgingly let James
May drive.
That's not all, though. There's a gorgeous 1962 Ferrari
250 GT SWB Berlinetta up for sale too (35k on the
clock, fully restored), along with a very cool 365 GTB/4
Daytona Competizione from 1969 (raced at Le Mans
by the North American Racing Team ub 1971, finished
5th, estimated to sell for $7 million), and a 1959 250
GT that's expected to go for around $6 million.
You suddenly want to get yourself to California next
month, don't you? (Vijay Pattni)

Sammy Hagar joins the LaFerrari club, vowing to never drive 55
Calif., nestled amid a series of industrial warehouses.
But the car parked in the driveway — a green Ferrari
456 GT — begins to give away the automotive plot.
Just past the non-descript front door, a hallway brims
with photos, gold records and other memorabilia from
the rocker’s tours of duty as a solo artist, Van Halen
front man and Chicken foot founder. But at the back of
the building, past an impressive recording studio, is a
cavernous room with a dozen sports cars. While
marques such as Aston Martin, Lotus and Ford take a
bow, this space is really all about one brand: Ferrari.
Hagar owns a half-dozen Prancing Horses, all of which
I’ve seen him drive routinely over the decade that I’ve
known him. Now he’s on the road to adding one more: a
$1.4 million LaFerrari, the company’s latest supercar
over which collectors the world over have been battling.
Only 499 will be built, and one is destined for Hagar’s
garage, a prospect that leaves the 66-year-old sounding
more like a giddy six-year-old.
“I couldn’t be more excited, and I’m buying it to drive
it,” says Hagar, whose passion for speed is neatly
summarized in his autobiographical 1984 hit, “I Can’t
Drive 55.”
“I suspect I might even have to take some more
driving courses to really be able to pilot this baby with
confidence,” he says. “From everything I’ve read about
the LaFerrari, you need to recalibrate your brain when
you get inside."
While the LaFerrari's 950 hp will push Hagar’s driving
skills to the limit, the musician is no stranger to fast
Maranello steeds. His first purchase dates back to the
late ‘70s and a four-headlight 330 GT 2+2. When his
solo album “Standing Hampton” raced up the charts a
few years later, it was time to upgrade to a 1982 512
BBi, a black beauty that starred in Hagar’s music video
for “I Can't Drive 55.”
That car remains in his stable today, alongside a 400i
automatic coupe, an iconic and increasingly valuable
Daytona, the aforementioned 456 2+2, and a custom-
painted (by Ferrari) black with red stripe 599 GTB.
Although he recently sold a prized 275 GTS to help
finance the pricey LaFerrari, Hagar says he has no
intention of letting any more cars go.
“I’m lucky because I can get this new car but keep the
rest of them,” says Hagar. And why so many of this
one marque? “I don’t know. I’ve eyed other supercars,
like the Bugatti Veyron, but in the end I have always
felt so connected to Ferraris.”

In truth, Hagar’s growing collection isn’t the result of his
rock star status. While his Van Halen years produced
some of the band’s best-selling albums (and an ongoing
debate as to which incarnation of the band — Hagar vs
original front man David Lee Roth — is best), the
singer’s entrepreneurial bent is responsible for most of
his lucre. Hagar’s tequila company, Cabo Wabo, named
after his bar in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, sold a few
years back to Gruppo Campari for nearly $100 million.
Not that Hagar is sitting on his liquid laurels. He
continues to record and tour; he and drummer Jason
Bonham, guitarist Vic Johnson and ex-Van Halen
bassist Michael Anthony are on tour this summer as
Sammy Hagar & Friends: A Journey through the History
of Rock. Hagar’s Beach Bar rum and Beach Bar and
Grill restaurants donates proceeds to a range of
children’s charities.
On a recent break in rehearsals for the summer tour,
Hagar immediately diverts the conversation back to his
LaFerrari, for which he recently plunked down a
$250,000 deposit at his local Ferrari of San Francisco
dealership. He laughs at the mention of the cost.
“When they first told me about the price, they said it
would be around $800,000. I thought, ‘OK, fine,’ and
then I found out they were talking euros not dollars and I
flipped,” he says, laughing. “I thought someone was
pulling my leg. I guess not.”
Truth is, a few years ago Hagar was desperately
searching for an Enzo, Ferrari’s 2002 supercar that had
initially left him cold.
“I saw it when it first came out at a racetrack, and I
don’t know why but I just didn’t get it at all,” he says.
“Then a few years ago I was at Quail Lodge (for their
annual summer motorsports gathering) and I fell in
love. Everyone I saw was around $1.7 million and now
I hear they’re even more because of the LaFerrari
coming out.”
When he couldn’t find the right Enzo, he approached a
few friends in Ferrari’s inner circle and expressed an
interest in getting the new supercar. “That wasn’t a
given, I soon learned,” he says. “There are plenty of
collectors who have far more than I do. But I was
committed and things worked out.” (Ferrari chairman
Luca di Montezemolo reportedly approves every
LaFerrari customer to weed out speculators, and
buyers typically must already own multiple Ferraris.)
The next step will be to fly to factory headquarters in
Maranello sometime this winter in order to be fitted for
the LaFerrari’s trademark custom driver’s seat, as well
as choose the car’s color palette and interior trim.
Although known for decades as the Red Rocker,
Hagar is sure of one thing: his LaFerrari won’t be
classic Rosso Ferrari, or even anything close.
“The way I see it, a car this radical doesn’t need to be
painted red, because it already screams red,” he says.
Although many of his cars are in fact black, “even that
color now seems too flashy to me. Early in my rock
and roll days, sure, I wanted to shock and impress, but
as I get older I really don’t like that. The color for my
car will say elegance.”

He thinks he knows what that will be, though he’s honing
in on a particular shade: white, along with a cream
leather interior accented by carbon fiber.
“Whatever I come up with has to feel timeless to me,” he
says. “I don’t ever plan to sell it, but if I wanted to or had
to one day, at least I won’t be one of the hundreds of red
ones out there.”
For Hagar, what is perhaps strangest of all about this
particular automotive experience is that it involves huge
money for a machine he has yet to see in the flesh. But,
he says, sometimes - as with a good riff, lyric or band
mate — you go with your gut. And if you’re ever in Marin
County in 2015 and see a white LaFerrari cruising
around, you can bet who’ll be at the wheel.
“I have no doubt this car will be amazing,” he says.
“Bring it on.” (Marco R. della Cava)
Is Advanced Microchip Implant in Michael Schumacher's Future?
While Michael Schumacher continues to recover from a
serious head injury suffered in a skiing accident on Dec.
29, his family may be considering a non-traditional
course of treatment. According to the London Daily Mail
in a published report on Tuesday, Croatian
Neurosurgeons have developed a microchip
implanting technique that may be able to help
Schumacher to walk and talk again. That microchip
technology has had some success in at least one
other case of paralysis, according to one of the
doctors in the report.
There have been no recent official reports of
Schumacher's condition, but it is being reported in the
Daily Mail that the seven-time Formula One champion
is awake from his coma. However, Schumacher
remains paralyzed and is only able to communicate
through blinking. He is recovering in a Swiss clinic,
and doctors hope that Schumacher will soon be able
to sit in a wheelchair and control that chair with his
mouth.
Schumacher has been a the University Hospital
Lausanne in Switzerland since June 16.In recent
months, it is believed the Schumacher's wife, Corinna,
has transformed a part of the Schumacher estate into
a medical facility in the hopes that Schumacher will be
able to continue his recovery at home. (Autoweek)
Maserati Exceeds 2013 MEA Sales in First Half of 2014
Forbes Friday Market Report July 25th, 2014

Italian luxury car manufacturer Maserati continues its
global expansion strategy and reports that sales in the
Middle East and Africa (MEA) region have increased by
152 per cent in the first half of 2014 compared with last
year’s result of the same period.
In fact, the result of the first six months of 2014 exceeds
the sales of 2013 overall. Globally, Maserati aims to
achieve an annual sales volume of 50,000 units over the
coming years, primarily through new products and
entering new markets. Within the MEA region, the trident
brand reported its highest sales in the UAE.
The market grew by over 226 per cent since last year.
Second highest - in terms of vehicles delivered to
customers - is Saudi Arabia, registering 231 per cent
growth. Indeed, all countries of the Middle East are
growing in double and triple digits. Total numbers,
however, remain very exclusive.
The most successful model of the first half is the new
Maserati Ghibli, which was launched earlier in the year
and received a very warm welcome by customers
wanting to realize their dream of owning a Maserati.
Maserati’s flagship, the Quattroporte, grew by a further
79 per cent following its introduction in 2013. The
introduction of a further engine variant, a 330hp V6, is
expected in the third quarter of this year.
At the same time, the legendary GranTurismo and
GranCabrio will experience a revival with the arrival of
the limited Centennial Edition. The further
development of its network infrastructure, including a
new showroom in Lebanon among others, allows
Maserati to be closer to its exclusive clientele in the
region.
“The MEA region and the emerging markets in general
allow us to grow while maintaining our exclusivity in
the existing markets. With the new Quattroporte and
Ghibli we have a very strong product portfolio
complementing the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.
Over the coming years we look forward to a new
introduction in the SUV segment and the Maserati
Alfieri, which was first presented at the 2014 Geneva
Motor Show,” said Umberto Cini, managing director of
Maserati global overseas markets.
Maserati celebrates its centennial this year - an
auspicious occasion as Maserati is at a turning point in
its history. The luxury brand celebrates its centenary
with an event at its headquarters in Modena, Italy, in
September for which thousands of Maserati fans and
owners from around the world will gather for a
succession of races, exhibitions, parades, visits to the
two Maserati factories and a concours d'elegance.

Maserati Birthday Bash hits Silverstone
The Maserati marque will continue its 100th birthday
celebrations at this weekend’s Silverstone Classic event.
Maserati will be the official ‘Celebration Marque’ at this
year’s classic racing extravaganza, and as part of the
centenary celebrations the Northamptonshire circuit will
play hosts to one of the largest gatherings of Maserati’s
ever seen in the UK.
Peter Denton, Region Manager Maserati North Europe,
said: “The UK is a crucially important market for
Maserati and the level of support and enthusiasm for the
brand here is outstanding. With 2014 being our
Centenary and sales up 223 per cent year-on-year it is
an exciting time for us. The Silverstone Classic promises
to be a fantastic showcase of Maserati’s glorious racing
heritage and the arrival in showrooms of the company’s
new Ghibli and Quattroporte Diesel models heralds the
beginning of another exciting chapter in the Maserati
story.”
Maserati’s association with the home of British
motorsport goes back for more than half the marque’s
existence, with Luigi Villoresi piloting a Maserati to
victory in the first British Grand Prix to be held at
Silverstone in 1948.
A special parade of Maserati’s will be headed by Sir
Stirling Moss, reunited with the legendary 250F Grand
Prix car he drove to success in the 1950s. Also
representing the Maserati heritage will be special
guest Alfieri Maserati, son of company co-founder
Ernesto Maserati.
Modern classics bearing the Maserati Trident badge,
such as the GranTurismo MC Stradale, will also be
represented at the event.
Gallery: £2.1 Million Pininfarina Sergio Concept At Ferrari London

The gorgeous Pininfarina Sergio Concept is on display
at HR Owen in the Berkeley Hotel Ferrari showroom,
London. The concept was made to honor Sergio
Pinifarina, who contributed in striking the bond between
Ferrari and Pininfarina that propagated Ferraris such as
the 360, 328 and the legendary Ferrari F40.
Sergio passed away at the age of 85 in 2012 and in
2013, the Pininfarina Sergio Concept was built as a
tribute to him. It is based on the Ferrari 458 Italia and
carry’s the standard 458 drivetrain which is a 4.5-litre V8
that produces 570 hp, making the car sprint from 0-100
km/h in less than 3.4 seconds and reaching a top speed
of up to 320 km/h.
The attention to detail and design features on the
beautifully crafted car are phenomenal. The rear engine
cover is a masterpiece, the wheels are perfect and the
interior is opulent yet functional. Six examples have
been commissioned for productions for an astonishing
£2.1 million! We imagine the car, which has no front or
rear windshield, must be amazing to drive. Anyone have
a spare £2.1 million for us?
Stunning Hong Kong Mansion Has Room for Owner’s Ferrari!
Fascinating homes often come and go just like fashion
trends. One year, they can completely redefine our
ideas of practical, modern architecture and the next
year, something better comes along. However, the
following house in Sai Kung, Hong Kong courtesy of
Millimeter Interior Design is one we think could really
inspire similar designs in the future and for good
reason.
The house is rather narrow but considering the
booming population and small size of Hong Kong, this
is hardly surprising. What is impressive is just how the
space has been utilized. The house features a split-
level, three-story design with a two car garage
featuring massive glass windows being right next to
the kitchen and living room on the ground floor.

James Garner: Actor, Racer, Car Guy Dies at 86
James Garner, a lifelong racing enthusiast who might
have really gone places in motorsports if his acting
career hadn’t kept getting in the way, died in Los
Angeles July 19 at age 86. The cause of death is not
known, but Garner had suffered a stroke in 2008 and
had quintuple bypass surgery in 1988.
Garner is best-known to the public for two popular
roles: Jim Rockford, the wise-cracking private eye who
often used his gold Pontiac Firebird to nab (or escape
from) bad guys; and as Bret Maverick in the early-'60s
TV western. But he will always be best-known to race
fans as the talented American driver Pete Aron taking
on the Europeans in the movie "Grand Prix." In that
John Frankenheimer hit, one of the top-10 highest-
grossing movies of 1966, Garner got to work with the
best F1 drivers of the day, including Phil Hill, Graham
Hill, Fangio, Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney,
Ritchie Ginther and Bruce McLaren.
"Grand Prix" has been hailed by many as the best
portrayal of real racing ever filmed, along with Steve
McQueen’s "Le Mans." Indeed, McQueen was
originally slotted to star in "Grand Prix," but an early
disagreement with producers led to his pulling out and
Garner getting the role. Unlike some of his co-stars
who couldn’t drive at all, Garner did much of his own
driving in the movie -- and fell in love with racing as a
result. Subsequently, some of the real drivers in the
film, including Graham Hill, reportedly told him he
could have done well as real driver.
"He is a fantastic gentleman," said Bob Bondurant,
one of the real Grand Prix drivers in the movie and the
one who trained the actors to be drivers. "We trained
at Willow Springs race track for five days. Trained with
several of the actors. Jim was the best guy by far. He
loved it. I looked over at him as we were going down
the straight there at Willow and he was laughing, he
was having such a great time."

A friendship with "Grand Prix" cast members Bondurant
and Dick Guldstrand lead to the creation of Garner’s
race team “American International Racing,” after the
movie wrapped. AIR fielded L88 Corvettes and Lola
T70s at Daytona and Sebring, with leading sports car
drivers of the day Scooter Patrick, Davey Jordan, Lothar
Mothschenbacher and Guldstrand. The team also
fielded a John Surtees Formula A/F5000 car in late 1969
that was featured in the documentary "The Racing
Scene" starring James Garner as himself.
Garner also famously drove a wild Vic Hickey-built Olds
442 4x4 in the NORRA Baja 1000 in 1969. That car was
aptly dubbed “The Grabber.” Garner’s co-driver in that
epic was Scooter Patrick.
Garner stayed interested in racing his whole life, driving
the pace car at the Indy 500 three times, in 1975, ’77
and ’85. He also appeared in TV commercials for Mazda
and Chevrolet.
His marriage to Lois Fleishman Clarke in 1956 was one
of Hollywood’s longest unions. (Mark Vaughn)
This Is A One-Owner 1964 Ferrari 250 GT/L 'Lusso' Barn Find
It's amazing to see a one-owner Ferrari 250 Lusso in
2014, let alone a barn find. Patina has never looked
better and you only need around $1,400,000 -
$1,800,000 to call it yours.
This image of a "running" 250 Lusso barn find
surfaced on DK Engineering's Facebook, and guess
what - RM Auctions will have the car at Monterey next
month. Here's what they know about this very special
find:
According to Ferrari, the car offered here, chassis
number 5233 GT, was originally delivered to the
Roman dealer in November of 1963, finished in
Azzuro (Italiver 19278M) with Nuvola interior. It is
believed that it was purchased as a new car four
months later by a Pakistani businessman involved in
onyx mining. The gentleman was a frequent visitor to
the Mediterranean area on business trips and, during
one of those trips, acquired his new Ferrari in Rome.
After the journey to Pakistan, the car arrived in its new
home and was registered in Karachi on May 5, 1964.
The Lusso has remained in the same family until now
and therefore for nearly 50 years! During that time it is
believed to have covered only 26,000 kilometers. The
Lusso only left Pakistan for the first time in 50 years in
2014 when it was sent to a marque specialist for an
inspection. As such it has been confirmed that the
car's engine, gearbox, and rear axle are all matching-
numbers components to this chassis. During the
family's ownership, the body was refinished in
traditional Rosso Corsa, but the interior remains intact
and appears to be the car's original trim. (Mate’

AUTOMOTIVE TECH
Drag Coefficient
In fluid dynamics, the drag coefficient (commonly
denoted as: cd, cx or cw) is a dimensionless quantity
that is used to quantify the drag or resistance of an
object in a fluid environment, such as air or water. It is
used in the drag equation, where a lower drag
coefficient indicates the object will have less
aerodynamic or hydrodynamic drag. The drag
coefficient is always associated with a particular
surface area.[1]
The drag coefficient of any object comprises the
effects of the two basic contributors to fluid dynamic
drag: skin friction and form drag. The drag coefficient
of a lifting airfoil or hydrofoil also includes the effects of
lift-induced drag.[2][3] The drag coefficient of a
complete structure such as an aircraft also includes
the effects of interference drag.
Forbes Friday Market Report July 25th, 2014
For More Information Please Contact Craig Forbes at (678) 802-5000 or [email protected]
The drag coefficient is defined as:
where: is the drag force, which is by definition the force
component in the direction of the flow velocity,[6] is the
mass density of the fluid,[7] is the speed of the object
relative to the fluid and is the reference area.
The reference area depends on what type of drag
coefficient is being measured. For automobiles and
many other objects, the reference area is the projected
frontal area of the vehicle. This may not necessarily be
the cross sectional area of the vehicle, depending on
where the cross section is taken. For example, for a
sphere (note this is not the surface area = ).
For airfoils, the reference area is the planform area.
Since this tends to be a rather large area compared to
the projected frontal area, the resulting drag coefficients
tend to be low: much lower than for a car with the same
drag and frontal area, and at the same speed.
Airships and some bodies of revolution use the
volumetric drag coefficient, in which the reference area
is the square of the cube root of the airship volume.
Submerged streamlined bodies use the wetted surface
area.
Two objects having the same reference area moving at
the same speed through a fluid will experience a drag
force proportional to their respective drag coefficients.
Coefficients for unstreamlined objects can be 1 or more,
for streamlined objects much less.
The drag equation: is essentially a statement that the
drag force on any object is proportional to the density
of the fluid and proportional to the square of the
relative speed between the object and the fluid.
Cd is not a constant but varies as a function of speed,
flow direction, object position, object size, fluid density
and fluid viscosity. Speed, kinematic viscosity and a
characteristic length scale of the object are
incorporated into a dimensionless quantity called the
Reynolds number or. is thus a function of . In
compressible flow, the speed of sound is relevant and
is also a function of Mach number.

For a certain body shape, the drag coefficient only
depends on the Reynolds number, Mach number and
the direction of the flow. For low Mach number, the drag
coefficient is independent of Mach number. Also, the
variation with Reynolds number within a practical range
of interest is usually small, while for cars at highway
speed and aircraft at cruising speed the incoming flow
direction is also more-or-less the same. So the drag
coefficient can often be treated as a constant.[8]
For a streamlined body to achieve a low drag coefficient,
the boundary layer around the body must remain
attached to the surface of the body for as long as
possible, causing the wake to be narrow. A high form
drag results in a broad wake. The boundary layer will
transition from laminar to turbulent providing the
Reynolds number of the flow around the body is high
enough. Larger velocities, larger objects, and lower
viscosities contribute to larger Reynolds numbers.[9]
Drag coefficient Cd for a sphere as a function of
Reynolds number Re, as obtained from laboratory
experiments. The solid line is for a sphere with a smooth
surface, while the dashed line is for the case of a rough
surface. The numbers along the line indicate several
flow regimes and associated changes in the drag
coefficient:
•2: attached flow (Stokes flow) and steady separated
flow,
•3: separated unsteady flow, having a laminar flow
boundary layer upstream of the separation, and
producing a vortex street,
•4: separated unsteady flow with a laminar boundary
layer at the upstream side, before flow separation, with
downstream of the sphere a chaotic turbulent wake,
•5: post-critical separated flow, with a turbulent
boundary layer.
For other objects, such as small particles, one can no
longer consider that the drag coefficient is constant,
but certainly is a function of Reynolds
number.[10][11][12] At a low Reynolds number, the
flow around the object does not transition to turbulent
but remains laminar, even up to the point at which it
separates from the surface of the object. At very low
Reynolds numbers, without flow separation, the drag
force is proportional to instead of ; for a sphere this is
known as Stokes law. Reynolds number will be low for
small objects, low velocities, and high viscosity
fluids.[9]
A equal to 1 would be obtained in a case where all of
the fluid approaching the object is brought to rest,
building up stagnation pressure over the whole front
surface. The top figure shows a flat plate with the fluid
coming from the right and stopping at the plate. The
graph to the left of it shows equal pressure across the
surface. In a real flat plate, the fluid must turn around
the sides, and full stagnation pressure is found only at
the center, dropping off toward the edges as in the
lower figure and graph. Only considering the front
side, the of a real flat plate would be less than 1;
except that there will be suction on the back side: a
negative pressure (relative to ambient). The overall of
a real square flat plate perpendicular to the flow is
often given as 1.17.[citation needed] Flow patterns
and therefore for some shapes can change with the
Reynolds number and the roughness of the surfaces.

Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari Ferrari Titanium Yellow Watch Hands-On
It should not come as a major surprise that a year after
the successful debut of the original limited edition
Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch, Hublot returns with two
more versions. When I last checked (early July of
2014), the aBlogtoWatch video of the original Hublot
LaFerrari watch had over 450,000 views on our
YouTube channel. Say that you will about Hublot
timepieces, but the brand "still has it" when it comes to
creating ultra-high-end timepieces that demand
attention.
In order to full understand the story of the MP-05
LaFerrari watch, I recommend you begin with our 2013
article debuting and discussing the original model.
There, I talk about the competition that Hublot is trying
to beat with the watch, and what it meant for the brand
to release such a timepiece.

Nevertheless, I should recap some of the major talking
points of the piece (as there are many), and discuss
what is new about this 2014 version of the Hublot MP-05
LaFerrari watch.
If you are into luxury then the most important thing to
know about the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch is that it is
the most expensive and high-end timepiece (so far) to
come as a result of the Hublot + Ferrari relationship.
Hublot continues to be the official high-end watchmaking
partner of Ferrari, and the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari
watch, with its $300,000 plus price sits at the apex of
that product family. I have a feeling that the LaFerrari
watch will retain this title for some years to come.
Now, if you are a watch lover and the mechanics and
design of the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch are more
interesting than Hublot's business relationship with
Ferrari, then what you'll want to know is that the Hublot
MP-05 LaFerrari watch has the longest power reserve of
any mechanical watch on the planet. See that stack of
barrels in the center of the movement? Between 11
mainspring barrels, the in-house made and designed
Hublot caliber HUB9005.H1.6 movement has 50 days of
power reserve. That is about 1,200 hours. Just for
comparison purposes, a standard mechanical movement
has about 42 hours of power reserve.
The Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch remains one of the
coolest ultra-luxury-watches on the planet and
represents the apex of what Hublot is able to achieve. Of
course, timepieces such as this exist as halo products
with very few being sold and being of negligible value to
a brand's overall bottom line despite their high price.
Nevertheless, it is a good day at Hublot when any
$300,000 plus timepiece is sold - but imagine the
production and design costs of a watch like this.
On the wrist, the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari sits more
snugly than one might imagine with the rubber strap,
but of course the oddly-shaped case with its generous
dimensions sits differently than most watches. The
case is 45.8mm tall by 39.5mm wide and 15.3mm
thick. It does seem to be bigger than it is actually is,
but what else would you expect with a timepiece
specifically intended to be larger than life. The 2014
titanium and yellow version of the Hublot MP-05
LaFerrari watch is limited to 50 pieces with a price of
$345,000.

The COOLEST is So Much Better Than Your Standard Cooler
A cooler is a mighty big item to serve only one
purpose. Yes we want cold drinks, but toting around a
giant ice chest makes us question if we could just get
by with some warm brews.

The COOLEST takes your average cooler and makes it
so much more useful. Included is an 18v battery
powered blender for making some frozen drinks, a
removable Bluetooth speaker, a USB charger, storage
for plates and knives, and a good bit more. Of course all
that stuff would kinda suck if it was all shooting out the
sides, but everything is integrated into the frame so it
isn’t adding extra bulk. It’s a mobile party on beach
wheels. $185 (Mike Newman)
Flir One Thermal Imager
Hardcore handymen can tell you that thermal imaging is
a lifesaver for finding water and air leaks, spotting
overloaded electrical connections, and many other
household issues. The Flir One Thermal Imager brings
this power to your iPhone 5 or 5S. This advanced add-
on combines the thermal image with the photo from a
military-grade night vision camera to provide outstanding
picture clarity, letting you see what's hiding in plain sight,
whether it be a problem in the house, an animal in the
dark, or just who's putting off the most heat at the
gym.$350
Zepp Golf Sensor
Golf sensors aren't a new idea — we've written about
a couple of them before — but we've never seen one
that didn't need to attach to your club. Until now. The
Zepp Golf Sensor hooks onto your glove and
communicates with your phone or tablet over
Bluetooth, letting you see your swing in 360 degrees,
and analyze your club plane, hand path, speed,
tempo, backswing position, and, if you put your phone
in your pocket, hip rotation. You can also compare
your swing with that of a pro, and track your progress
over time with every club in your bag. And if you
happen to be a multi-sport star, don't worry — the
same sensor can be mounted onto a tennis racket or
baseball bat so you can track your stats there,
too.$150

Petit Le Mans October 1-4
The Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda (French for little
Le Mans) is a sports car endurance race held annually
at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, USA. It uses the
rules established for the 24 hours of Le Mans by the
Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), which are slightly
modified if necessary, mainly to allow additional cars to
compete.
The race was founded by Road Atlanta owner Don
Panoz and first run on October 10, 1998 as part of the
IMSA season. The 1999 edition was one of the original
events of the American Le Mans Series. This year will
mark the 2nd Annual Intercontinental Le Mans Cup,
which connects the races in North America, Europe and
Asia.
The Petit Le Mans covers a maximum of 1,000 miles
(1,600 km) (which is approximately 394 laps) or a
maximum of 10 hours, whichever comes first; only
once, in the rain-stopped 2009 race, has the leading
team failed to complete 1,000 miles (1,600 km). In
addition to the overall race, teams of two or three
drivers per car compete for class victories in four
different classes of cars, two for Le Mans prototypes
and two for grand tourer cars. Class winners of this
event receive an automatic invitation to the following
year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
