2.2 AIR POLLUTION CONTROL MEASURES
The measures proposed for implementation are listed below
Water Sprinkling will be done for dust suppression using Water
tankers having provision of sprinkling on dump yards and haul
roads.
Dust Masks will be provided for the workers based on work
area.
In emergency one DG set of 25 kVA will be provided at site. Low noise
DG set (with noise absorbing enclosures) will be considered. DG set
will be operated based on the operation activity i.e wire saw cutting
and is not continuous operation.
3.0 NOISE ENVIRONMENT
3.1 SOURCES OF NOISE
Noise produced from mining operations is not continuous. The levels
of noise are different based on the activity workers are exposed to.
Identified sources of noise from the mine are listed below.
Drilling Operations
Wire saw Cutting Operations
Dressing Operations
Machinery operation i.e Excavator, tipper movement and
DG Set.

3.2 NOISE PROTECTION MEASURES
Hearing protection devices (Ear plugs and ear muffs) will be provided
to the drill machine operators and dumper drivers.
Green belt will be developed all along the periphery of mine covering
width of 7.5 m to act as barrier between core and buffer zones.
4.0 WATER ENVIRONMENT
The areas which can have effect on water environment are listed
below:
Water Consumption
Ground water level
4.1 WATER CONSUMPTION
Water consumption in the mine is estimated to be about 20 m3/day as
detailed below in table. Source of water is from bore well/local
purchase.
WATER BALANCE (m3/day)
Requirement Loss Wastewater
Dust suppression 5.0 5.0 -
Greenbelt 12.8 12.8 -
Drinking Water 2.2 0.4 1.8
Total 20.0 18.2 1.8
The only wastewater generation from the Mine is from domestic use.
Septic tank followed by soak pit will be provided for treating the
domestic wastewater.
4.2 GROUND WATER LEVEL
The topography of the mine varies from 100m to 180m RL. As per
estimated mineral reserves vide Mining plan, the depth of mining will
be upto 75m RL. Based on information collected from nearby
borewells, the water table is at 55 m RL. It is noted that the mining
depth is above ground water level. Hence mining will not intersect
ground water table.

5.0 LAND ENVIRONMENT
The identified aspects which can cause impact due to mining
operations on land environment are listed below.
Landuse
Solid waste generation
Transportation
Greenbelt Development
5.1 LANDUSE
The category of the mining lease area is govt. land and is occupied by
boulders. No habitation within the mine lease area. The nearest village
is Venkatapuram at 0.6 km in South direction with the habitation of
1481 persons as per census 2011.
Mine will be operated for 18 years and the land use pattern for next
five year is as below:
LANDUSE PATTERN (Ha.)
Five year Plan Life of mine
Area of excavation 1.24 3.92
Temporary dump 0.18 -
Greenbelt
Development 0.08 0.08
Undisturbed area 2.5 -
Total 4.00 4.00
Conceptually during mine closure mined out area will be backfilled
with the waste generated during mining activity. Phased plantation
will be taken up in the 7.5 m buffer zone.
5.2 SOLID WASTE GENERATION
Solid waste generation from the mine in the next five years and for the
life of mine is given below
SOLID WASTE GENERATION (m3)
Annual Next Five years Life of the Mine
Waste 4,500 22,500 2,16,000
Continental Granites, Addukonda Village, Tekkali Mandal, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh. EMP Report
B.S. Envi-Tech (P) Ltd., Sec.
5.2.1 NATURE OF SOLID WASTE
Solid waste is mainly waste rock.
Total waste generation from mine during first five years is 22,500 m3
and for life of mine of 18 years is 2,16,000 m3. A temporary dump
yard is proposed in an area of 0.18 Ha on SE of the Quarry lease area
to accommodate the waste generated during the first five years of
mine operation. The remaining waste quantity will be concurrently
backfilled. The dump will be having ground footage periphery of 186.7
m for which garland drain with check dam will be provided.
A garland drain of 176m length and 0.7m width is proposed. Depth of
the drain will be designed such that gravity flow following the ground
gradient profile will be considered with maximum depth of 0.5m (176
L x 0.7 W x 0.5 D in meters). Garland drain will be provided with
sedimentation pits along the length and check dam at discharge end.
5.3 TRANSPORTATION
5.3.1 WITHIN THE MINE
Transportation activity within the mining lease area is mainly for
transportation of waste rock by trucks from the mine pit to the dump
yard. The length of the haulage road is approximately 312.6 m and
varies with progress/increase of mine area.
Total waste generation from the mine is estimated to be about
76,500 m3 for life of the mine. A total of 1 trip/day is required for
transport of the same. No impact due to truck plying is anticipated as
the truck movement within the mining lease area is minimal.
5.3.2 OUTSIDE THE MINING LEASE AREA
Transportation of Colour granite from the mining lease area will be
through trucks.
Considering annual production of 1,500 m3 /Annum of Colour
Granite, maximum 1 trucks /day will be transported and the impact
due to this transportation will be minimal.
Continental Granites, Addukonda Village, Tekkali Mandal, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh. EMP Report
B.S. Envi-Tech (P) Ltd., Sec.
5.4 GREENBELT DEVELOPMENT
As per the conservation of Mineral and Mines Act, it is required to
leave a barrier of 7.5 m width all along the mining lease area. But the
applied lease area is scanty suitable for plantation as entire area is
rocky.
There are absolutely no chances of any tree growing in the quarry
area. However it is proposed to plant a few trees in the nearby village
area in the place shown by the village panchayat. The details of
proposed plantation are shown below.

6.0 SOCIAL WELFARE MEASURES
The mine will provide employment to 40 persons and equal number of
persons will be employed indirectly for transportation and other
activities. Local persons will be given preference.
The project is a small scale operation and proposed production is
1,500 m3 /Annum of Colour Granite.
The maximum revenue which will be generated by production of
1,500 m3 of granite is Rs 120 Lakhs considering average prevailing
Continental Granites, Addukonda Village, Tekkali Mandal, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh. EMP Report
B.S. Envi-Tech (P) Ltd., Sec.
rate of Rs 8000 per m3. The expenditure for production of the 1 m3 of
granite is estimated to be about Rs 5000 including royalty. Of the
total profit of Rs 3000 per m3, 1% of the profit which is about Rs 0.45
Lakhs /annum will be spent for welfare of the nearest villages which
are located within 2 km of the project site.
7.0 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MEASURES
Fugitive dust, noise and fines may affect the health of workers. Safety
of employee during operation will be taken care as per mine
regulations act 1961. To avoid any adverse effects on the health of
workers due to dust & noise, the following measures will be
implemented:
Provision of rest shelters for mine workers with amenities like
drinking water, fans, toilets etc.
Provision of personal protection devices to the workers;
Dust suppression of haul road.
First-aid facilities within lease area.
Height, slope and width of dump development as per the
approved mining plan.
Regular medical examination for the employees.
The following Personnel protective equipment (PPE) based on the
nature of job of the worker will be provided
