Dear Family of Holy Rosary, As January ends, and February begins, we will have some special cultural and devotional practices offered, that can enrich your spiritual journey. Even though we are outside of the liturgical seasons of Christmas and Lent, there are some beautiful traditions that fall in this time between special seasons. The first is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This feast happens 40 days after the birth of the Lord, when it was the tradition to offer the child at the temple. Simeon lifted the child Jesus up, saying “Now Lord, you may dismiss your servant in peace ”, because he had finally seen the promised Savior. On this day (Friday, February 2), we will have a Mass in Spanish at 7pm. Included in this liturgy will be a candle blessing (this day is sometimes called Candlemas), and a spe- cial blessing of the Christ child images used during Christmas ( La Levantada del Niño Jesús). You are invited to bring your baby Jesus statues, and we will bless and present them just as the Holy Family presented the child Jesus to Simeon and Anna. The next tradition we will celebrate is the Blessing of Throats. We will do that next Sunday after all Masses. This is based on the tradition that St. Blaise (whose feast is Feb. 3) cured a child who had a bone caught in his throat. The blessing of throats calls on God to heal and protect us from all throat problems, with the intercession of St. Blaise. Even though it seems dead and cold outside, inside we have warm and colorful traditions to remember how God is always present with us. Fr. Jim Prayers for the Sick / Oración por los Enfermos Querida familia de Santo Rosario, El mes de enero está terminando, y con el empiezo de febrero, celebraremos algunas tradiciones para enriquecer nuestro camino espiritual. Este viernes, 2 de febrero, celebramos la Fiesta de la Presenta- ción del Señor. Esta fiesta ocurre 40 días después del nacimiento de Jesús, y es un recuerdo de la tradición judaica de ofrecer o consagrar el niño en agradecimiento al Señor. Vamos a celebrar la eucaristía a las 7pm en español con algunos ritos especiales. Tendremos la bendición de velas que usaremos durante el año, que es una tradi- ción antigua (ese día está conocido como Candelaria, también). Por eso, están invitados traer sus velas que usan en casa. Vamos a bende- cirla. También, como el año pasado, bendeciremos los Niños Jesús que usan en el nacimiento o Belén en la Navidad. Vamos a presen- tarles y bendecirles como la Sagrada Familia presentó su Hijo Divino a Simeón y Ana en el templo. Este rito se llama La Levantada del Niño Jesús, y después, se pueden poner en un lugar seguro su Niño Divino hasta la próxima Navidad. El próximo domingo, celebramos la bendición de gargantas. Esta bendición llevará a cabo después de cada Misa. Es una tradición europea, un recuerdo de la tradición de San Blas, quien curó un niño que casi murió por algo trancado en su garganta. La iglesia celebra la memoria de San Blas cada año el 3 de febrero, pero vamos a ofrecer esta linda tradición el domingo. La bendición se hace con dos velas cruzadas (velas bendecidas en la Misa de Candelaria), tocando la garganta. Los ministros de comunión están autorizados para ayudarme en está bendición. Aunque todo parece oscuro y muerto en la naturaleza, aquí en la iglesia celebramos tradiciones llenas de calor y vida, ¡recordando como Dios está presente siempre con nosotros! P. The CSAF recognizes each parish itself as a ministry integral to the daily life of the Archdiocese. Our parish really is our second home; we see our brothers and sisters in Christ every week as together we celebrate the Mass. It is also where we are prepared and supported as disciples to go forth to preach the Gospel. Thus, our parish is a benefited ministry of the CSA; we receive 25% of the dollars we collect in our parish if we reach our parish goal.
