Fourth Sunday Easter (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection

The great throng the Book of Revelation speaks of in the second reading, have heard the voice of the Good Shepherd and followed Him to the ultimate consequences, giving their lives as witnesses of His love.

The Good Shepherd promises, if we are faithful, to give us eternal life. His own resurrection is the pledge that we shall never perish. May the saints, that great multitude who have “washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Rev 7:14), intercede for us so that we too may persevere in His service.

On this Good Shepherd Sunday, let us pray for all priests and for those who will be ordained to the priesthood this month. Let us pray also for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and the religious life. May the Lord send us shepherds according to His own heart, who may lead us faithfully along the way to the Father.

During this month of May dedicated to our Blessed Mother, we thank the Lord for the gift of our mothers and of all those women who have been like mothers to us. May He bless them abundantly with faith, health, and love, and may Mary our Mother protect them. God bless you!

Reflexión Dominical La muchedumbre de que habla el Apocalipsis en la segunda

lectura, han escuchado la voz del Buen Pastor y lo han seguido hasta las últimas consecuencias, dando su vida como testimonio de su amor.

El Buen Pastor nos promete la vida eterna si somos fieles. Su propia resurrección es prenda de que no pereceremos. Que los santos, esa gran multitud que ha “lavado y blanqueado sus vestiduras en la sangre del Cordero” (Ap 7,14), intercedan por nosotros para que perseveremos en Su servicio.

En este domingo del Buen Pastor, oremos por los sacerdotes y por los que recibirán el sacramento del Orden en estos días, así como por más vocaciones al sacerdocio y la vida consagrada. Que el Señor nos envíe pastores conforme a Su corazón, que nos guíen fielmente por el camino que lleva al Padre.

Durante este mes de mayo dedicado a la Santísima Virgen, damos gracias al Señor por nuestras madres y por todas aquellas mujeres que han sido madres para nosotros. Que Él las bendiga abundantemente y les conceda fe, salud y amor, y que María nuestra Madre las proteja. Que Dios los bendiga.

A Living God The Easter season reminds us that we believe in a living God

who knows us and who lovingly calls us by name so that we will not

stray far from Him, and that we may enjoy now that true Life that

He gave us as a gift by giving Himself up to redeem us.

In Christus Vivit Pope Francis reminds that “With him at our side,

we can drink from the true wellspring that keeps alive all our

dreams, our projects, our great ideals, while impelling us to

proclaim what makes life truly worthwhile.” Do not allow anyone or

anything to keep us away from this Good Shepherd who impels us

to help our brothers and sisters with our time, our talent and our

money. May hear the voice of the true Shepherd, and may He

guide us along the most excellent way, Himself, the Way the Truth

and the Life .

Getting to Know the New Saints Conozcamos los Nuevos Santos

ST. AUGUSTE CHAPDELAINE (1814-1856) — French missionary to China. Following grammar school, he discontinued his education to work on the family farm. His family opposed his desire to become a priest, but the sudden death of two of his brothers led them to have a change of heart. He entered the seminary in 1834 and was ordained in 1843. After serving as a parish priest for 7 years, he received permission to serve in the foreign missions. Auguste left for the Chinese missions in 1852.

After several setbacks, he finally reached his assignment in the Kwang-si Province in 1854, only to be arrested ten days later. After three weeks in prison, he was released and able to serve the local community for two years, converting hundreds to the Christian Faith.

Auguste was arrested on February 26, 1856, and sentenced to death for his work. He was tortured and died with Saint Lawrence Pe-Man and Saint Agnes Tsau Kouy. They were canonized together with other Martyrs of China in 2000.

SAN AUGUSTO CHAPDELAINE (1814-1856) — Misionero francés en China. Dejó la escuela después de la primaria para trabajar en la finca familiar. Su familia se oponía a que fuera sacerdote, pero la muerte repentina de dos de sus hermanos los hizo cambiar. Entró al seminario en 1834 y fue ordenado en 1843. Young people are not meant to become discouraged; they are meant to dream great things, to seek vast

horizons, to aim higher, to take on the world, to accept challenges and to offer the best of themselves to the building of something better. That is why I constantly

urge young people not to let themselves be robbed of hope.

We should never repent of spending our youth being good, opening our heart to the Lord, and living

differently. None of this takes away from our youth but instead strengthens and renews it: “Your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Ps 103:5). For this reason, Saint Augustine could lament: “Late have I loved you, beauty ever

ancient, ever new! Late have I loved you!”

Un joven no puede estar desanimado, lo suyo es soñar cosas grandes, buscar horizontes amplios, atreverse a más, querer comerse el mundo, ser capaz de aceptar propuestas desafiantes y desear aportar lo mejor de sí para construir algo mejor. Por eso insisto a los jóvenes que no se dejen robar la esperanza.

No hay que arrepentirse de gastar la juventud siendo buenos, abriendo el corazón al Señor, viviendo de otra manera. Nada de eso nos quita la juventud, sino que la fortalece y la renueva: «Tu juventud se renueva como el águila» (Sal 103,5). Por eso san Agustín se lamentaba: «¡Tarde te amé, hermosura tan antigua y tan nueva! ¡Tarde te amé!»
