Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Le er from the Pastor: Dear Parish Family, I want to update you all about some items of interest of late. First, thanks so much for your immense generosity to the vic ms of the fire at St. Albans apartment complex. Funds are being directed by the community Family Service Agency here in the area. We desig-nated our dona ons thus far (totaled $3,000!) for the needs of the St. Albans people for their perma-nent housing assistance and for gi cards to assist them towards that end. We should be grateful for Family Service Agency and the Sycamore community for the prayers, love and support. Again, I am truly apprecia ve of all our volunteers here at the parish…we really can’t func on with-out you! Our Martha Ministry, which are those awesome people who clean the church every Satur-day morning, go unno ced. They prepare and beau fy the church for us to worship and adore the Lord! Thanks so much! I would like to have a shout out to a different ministry each week, with the hopes that more of you will jump off the side lines and share your gi s. Lord knows, and I know, you have them to share! We need more people to sign up for leading the Holy Rosary 20 minutes prior to each Mass. We will give you a microphone and a folder to keep it simple. If you know how to read in a prayerful manner and have a Rosary; you’ve got this! We just received one volunteer for the 11:00 am Mass last week. We really need more, please! Our Lady, whom is our Patroness, will be so overjoyed! Parish Picnic.. We need volunteers for various things. Thank you to those who have already volun-teered, but more hands make for less work. Like I have stated before, this is not only a parish event; it’s one that we are invi ng the whole Sycamore community. It’s a chance for us to let them know who we are as a Parish and School, Religious Educa on and Hispanic Ministry etc.: a total parish fam-ily. The Catholic Faith is awesome and RCIA classes are star ng in less than a month! Pray for the Parish Picnic; pray that as I enter the Dunk Tank, to raise monies for bathrooms for the church, that I don’t drown from all the people lined up for miles! Lastly, and very important... We have so many capital improvements and projects that we need to do, that have been on hold. I ask each of you, in prepara on for all of this, for an increase in our weekly offertory, what each of us gives in the collec on. Any increase will help us prepare to lay a founda on for the essen al improvements we desperately need to do. Yours in Christ Jesus, Fr. Beekman

Last Wednesday St. Mary School welcomed new 20+ families at our Back to School Night. At our Back to School Night St. Mary School families generously donated $450 in cash and gi cards for the recent apartment fire vic ms. We are blessed to have such generous families.

Did you know? Over 30 years ago parishioners of St. Mary, Sycamore, began a ministry devoted to feeding and sheltering the hungry and homeless in our area which has grown into Hope Haven, the on-ly DeKalb County agency specifically designed to effec vely meet the needs of the area’s homeless? The seeds St Mary’s planted have grown great fruit in our community. Our parish con nues to support this great tradi on by providing meals at Hope Ha-ven every Saturday evening throughout the year. Can you help? Volunteers are needed to provide and deliver meals on August 24th and October 19th. This is a fun community service ac vity for any youth groups including sports teams, religious educa on classes, St. Mary’s school classes , or ser-vice organiza ons. Please contact Lisa DeWi at fldewi @yagoo.com or 815-501-967 for more in-forma on or if you can help.

Aug 17-18: PMT Overnight Retreat We have a Peer Ministry Team Retreat next weekend at Bishop Lane. Please pray for us!

This year, Youth Ministry will be doing a new small group program called YDis-ciple. It is an apprenticeship in the Catholic faith. YDisciple is open to ALL teens Freshmen-Senior. They do not need to attend St. Mary's or even be Catholic. Our goal this year is to help our teens know how to go out and be dis-ciples. Jesus tells us "Go forth and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have ever commanded you." We must first learn how to do that. Please consider signing up! We ask that you let us know by September 15th, as the first meeting will be the week of Sep-tember 29th. You can email Aubri Bourge at [email protected] or reach her at 309-826-7709. Thank you!
