Monday 30 April 2012 Edition 12 Week 2 Term 1
I commend our students on their positive and
cooperative start to a very busy term 2. Their
demonstrated enthusiasm for learning makes
Franklin a special school.
Our 73 Stage 3 students have arrived safely at
Milson Island Camp and are enjoying a wide
range of outdoor activities including archery,
fishing, kayaking and challenge ropes.
ANZAC SERVICE 2012 school leaders, Ruby Acland, Riley Green,
Melissa Grant, Tatiania-Lee Douglas. Presley Lee and
Zack Turvey represented the Franklin School
community at the Tumut ANZAC service.
This year students and staff marched in the street
procession and later on Ruby and Riley laid a wreath at
the cenotaph on behalf of Franklin School. It was also pleasing to see members of the Franklin
Concert Band playing with the Tumut Town Band on
the day.

SNOWY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS
Perfect conditions allowed our cross country athletes to
shine last Thursday. The enthusiasm, effort and
participation of students were a highlight.
A large gathering of supportive parents and grandparents
combined with the excellent organization of the event by
Mr Wheaton ensured Franklin’s 2012 cross country
carnival was an outstanding success. Forest claimed the
Bellette Family Cross Country Shield ahead of Snowy
and Capper. (Results Page 2)
FESTIVAL of the FALLING LEAF
Congratulations go to many students, staff and parents
for their marvellous contribution to Franklin’s
participation in the parade last Saturday. Our
‘Bookworm’ was a highlight and drew copious praise
and considerable comment from the large gathering in
attendance. This combined with students’ colourful
clothing and their decorated bikes and scooters ensured
Franklin students will take fond memories of the 2012
Festival of the Falling Leaf.
Thank you Ms Nixon for creating the colourful bookworm
and the students who brought the ‘worm to life’ as it
wriggled its way down Wynyard Street.

SCHOOL AS COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWS Franklin's Walking School Bus - Every Wednesday Morning and Afternoon
Do you live in or around Laurel Pl, Banksia Crst, Forest St, Lambie St, Gadara Pl or Simpson St? Do your children walk to and home from school? Why not jump on Franklin's Walking School Bus!
A walking school bus is aimed at K-Year 3 kids (but all students are welcome) who walk to and from school along a safe and enjoyable set route. There is also a bus driver and conductor, one ‘drives’ the bus from the front while the conductor supervises from behind. Extra parents are more that welcome to
come along for the ride and the walking bus will pick children up along the way, and after school, drops them off on the designated walk back. The walking school bus promotes a safe way for kids to travel to school; it will give children an opportunity to expand on their road sense and traffic safety
skills. It can also create friendships and a sense of place and community in your area.
Franklin’s Walking School bus will leave at 8.30 from outside of Tumut Regional Family Services and make our way to Franklin School arriving at around 8.50 am. When you see us or hear the whistle, jump on and let’s travel to school safely together. For more information or to volunteer to be a driver or conductor, please call Krystle on 6947 6961, or drop in to the Schools as Community Centres Building.
