CELEBRATING FRANKLIN!

TOGETHER WE LEARN

The theme for this year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week is ‘Reading is my Secret Power’.

This term we will be celebrating Book Week in conjunction with Education Week in week 3.

Book Week aims to provide incentives to writers, illustrators and publishers to produce children’s literature of the highest

standards. All of the shortlisted books for 2019 will be displayed in the library during Book Week—please call in and have

a look! Lots of lunchtime fun to be had in the library, come and join us!

Dates to Remember:

Monday, August 5th—our book fair will open in the library. Children will write their wish lists on Friday 2nd

August.

Tuesday, August 6th—we will be holding a character parade in the hall, so please come dressed as your fa-

vourite book character.

From The Library!

Coles Community Bag Competition

Congratulations to our three students, Lucy

Swan, Anelise Van Ginkel and Bobbie-Lee

Foster who designed winning bags in the

Coles Community Bag Competition. There

were 8 winners nationally and for our small

school to win 2 of them is an amazing

achievement. As a result of our students

winning, Franklin received 2 prize cheques

for $5000 each. Thank you to the staff from

Coles Tumut who came to present us with

our prize. Well done Lucy, Anelise and Bob-

bie-Lee—great effort by Franklin students.

What’s happening at Tumut School’s As Community Centres:

What a fabulous first week of playgroups for term 3! The children let their creativity flow at the collage station and modified their cutting skills. They also used letter stampers to construct their names, which is fantastic for letter and name recognition. I was truly impressed by how many children

knew their letters! Next week we’ll be exploring the magic of fairy tales and investigating wooden musical instruments.

Everyone is welcome to come along to playgroup at SaCC it’s completely free and lots of fun for all. Please call Laura on 69476961 or check out our

Facebook page for more information.

This week Franklin School received two phone calls regarding our

students on Radio News—Jessica Martin and Maddie Piper.

James Hayes, our mayor, called our school and said “Franklin

Radio News was fantastic. Congratulations to students and staff

for the outstanding Radio News”. We also had a call from a

member of the public, Karin Garner, who said she couldn’t stop

listening because our students were so engaging. Well done Jess
