Congratulations to our teachers, learners and whanau for the amazing progress and achievement made in the foundation curriculum areas this year! We are very pleased that our focus on priority learners and the collaborative learning environm ents have clearly contributed to improved student achievement across the school! The progress and achievement of the children in our collaborative learning areas has been carefully monitored this year, as all except one class has been a collaborative learning environment. Last year we tracked the progress of children in the Year 5-6 collaborative learning areas of the school and saw positive shifts in achievement with many students making accelerated progress in reading, writing or maths. Our focus area this year has been writing and we have seen hugely improved achievement in this curriculum area across the school. We also have a larger number of children achieving above the expected level across the school. I have inserted a table here to display the improvements in this year’s whole school data compared with last year. The results are amazing! Friday 17 November – Term Four Week 5, 2017

Tena ra koutou ki nga hau e wha – Greetings to everybody.

Congratulations to our teachers, learners and whanau for the amazing progress and achievement

made in the foundation curriculum areas this year! We are very pleased that our focus on priority

learners and the collaborative learning environm ents have clearly contributed to improved

student achievement across the school!

The progress and achievement of the children in our collaborative learning areas has been

carefully monitored this year, as all except one class has been a collaborative learning

environment. Last year we tracked the progress of children in the Year 5-6 collaborative learning

areas of the school and saw positive shifts in achievement with many students making accelerated

progress in reading, writing or maths. Our focus area this year has been writing and we have seen

hugely improved achievement in this curriculum area across the school. We also have a larger

number of children achieving above the expected level across the school. I have inserted a table

here to display the improvements in this year’s whole school data compared with last year. The

results are amazing!

The children have reported that they find the larger learning space less disruptive, they can move

around and spread out and find a space that suits them. They like the opportunity to form new

friendships and work with different groups of children. They like that there is another teacher in

their learning space that they can talk to.

Next week, our Year 5 and 6 students have their camps at One Tree Point. There is an exciting

programme in place and I know it will be a memorable experience for them. The Pod 1 EOTC

activities took place this week, with the train trip and the Kawiti Caves being an absolute hit with

the children. The good behaviour of our children was remarked upon on numerous occasions. I

would like to thank all of our teachers for going the extra mile to organise fabulous learning

activities for our children. And thank you to all of our wonderful parents who work together and

support us with enabling trips and camps to happen.

Please note in your calendar, the event with John Parsons for parents, from 6:00pm – 7:30pm on

Tuesday 28th November. This will be a very worthwhile, informative meeting around cyber safety

for our young children and teens. John will be at our school during the day to talk with some of

our students and then meeting with the teachers after school.

Our Fun, Fish, Dive fishing competition fundraiser was a huge success! Thank you to Shane

Nicholas and everyone who participated, sponsored, and supported us on the day. We were

overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. We extend a huge thank you to all of those

people who helped organise the event and who had a part in making the day a success.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
