FIRST STEPS

This Owner’s Guide provides specic operating instruc-tions or your model. Use the reezer only as instructed inthis Owner’s Guide. Beore starting te reeer, ootese important frst steps.

INSTAllATION

• Chooseaplacethatisnearagroundedelectrical

outlet. Do Not use an extension cord or an adapterpug.

• Forthemostefcientoperation,thefreezershould

be located where surrounding temperatures will notexceed110°F(43°C).Temperaturesof32°F(0°C)and

below will NOT aect reezer operation. Additionalcompressor heaters are not recommended.

• Allow space around the unit for good air circulation. Leavea3inch(75mm)spaceonallsidesofthe

reezer or adequate circulation.

NOTE: The exterior walls o the reezer may become quite

warm as the compressor works to transer heat rom theinside.Temperaturesasmuchas30°Fwarmerthanroomtemperaturecanbeexpected.Forthisreasonitisparticu-

larly important in hotter climates to allow enough space orair circulation around your reezer.

lEVElING 

The reezer must have all bottom corners resting rmly ona solid foor. The foor must be strong enough to support

a ully loaded reezer. NOTE: It is VERY IMPORTANT or

your reezer to be level in order to unction properly. I thereezer is not leveled during installation, the door may bemisaligned and not close or seal properly, causing cooling,rost, or moisture problems.

To leve Uprigt Modes: Ater discarding crating screws and wood base, use a car-

penter’s level to level the reezer rom ront-to-back. Adjustthe plastic leveling eet in ront, ½ bubble higher, so that

the door closes easily when let halway open.

WARNING ElECTRICAl INFORMATION

These guidelines must be ollowed to ensure that saety

mechanisms in the design o this reezer will operate prop-erly.

• Refertotheserialplateforcorrectelectricalrating.The power cord o the appiiance is equipped with a

three prong plug or your protection against shockhazards. It must be plugged directly into a properly

groundedthree prong receptacle, protected with a 15amp timedelay use or circuit breaker. The receptaclemust be installed in accordance with local codes

and ordinances. Consult a qualied electrician.ReceptaclesprotectedbyGroundFaultInterrupters

(GFI)areNOT RECOMMENDED. DO NOT USE ANEXTENSION CORD OR ADAPTER PlUG.

•  I voltage varies by 10% or more, reezer perormance

may be aected. Operating reezer with insucientpower can damage the motor. Such damage isnot covered under the warranty. I you suspect your

household voltage is high or low, consult your power

accidentically, do not plug unit into an outlet controlledby a wall switch or pull cord.

• Donotpinch,knot,orbendthecordinanymanner.

Always grip the plug rmly, and pull straight out romthe receptacle.

light bulb or other electrical components.

SETTING ThE TEMPERATURE CONTROl

COOl DOwN PERIOD

• Forsafefoodstorage,allow4hoursforthefreezertocool down completely. The reezer will run continuously

fortherstseveralhours.Foodsthatarealreadyrozen may be placed in the reezer ater the rst ew

hours o operation. Unrozen oods should NOT beloaded into the reezer until the reezer has operated

or 4 hours.

• Whenloadingthefreezer,freezeonly3poundsof resh ood per cubic oot o reezer space at one time.Distribute packages to be rozen evenly throughout the

reezer. It is not necessary to turn the control knob to acolder setting while reezing ood.

If door must be removed: 

1. Gently lay reezer on its back, on a rug or blanket.

2. Remove two base screws and base panel.

3. Remove bottom hinge screws.

4. Remove plastic top hinge cover.

5. Remove screws rom top hinge.

6. Remove top hinge rom cabinet.

7. Remove door and bottom hinge rom cabinet.

8. To replace door, reverse the above order andsecurely tighten all screws to prevent hinge slippage.

removing adhesive labels. Any glue let rom the tapecan be removed with a mixture o warm water and mild

detergent, or touch the residue with the sticky sideo tape already removed. Do not remove te seriapate.

Eectromecanica Temperature Contro (Cest andSome Uprigt Modes)The electromechanical temperature control is located in-

side the reezer on upright models, and on the let exteriorwall on chest models (see gure 1). The temperature is

actory preset to provide satisactory ood storage tem-peratures. However, the temperature control is adjustable

SECURITY lOCk wITh POP-OUT kEY

This security lock astens the door snugly, ensuring stored

ood is secure. To lock or unlock the reezer, push the keyinto the lock and turn. The key pops out o the lock ater it

has been turned.

SlIDE-OUT BASkET (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)

A Slide-Out Basket (some models), located at the bottomo the reezer, provides separate storage space or items

that are dicult to store on reezer shelves. To remove thebasket, pull out and lit up.

INTERIOR lIGhT

The light comes on automatically when the door is opened.To replace the light bulb, turn the temperature control to

OFFandunpug te eectrica cord.Replace the old bulbwith a bulb o the same wattage.

Standard Eectronic Temperature Contro (Some Up-rigt Frost Free Modes)The standard electronic temperature control is located

outsidethefreezer(seeFigure1).Temperatureisfactorypreset to provide satisactory ood storage temperatures.To adjust the temperature setting, move the UP (∧) symbol

forcoldertemperaturesandDOWN(∨) symbol or warmertemperatures on the control panel. Allow several hours or

the temperature to stabilize between adjustments.

Toturnofffreezer,pressDOWN(∨)symbol until display shows “1”. Press

three more times until display shows “0”.To activate reezer, press UP (∧) three

times until display shows “1” then press(∧) to desired setting.

To keep the temperature setting

rom being accidentally changed, thecontrol may be locked. This is done by

pressing “Alarm Reset” or 3 seconds.“L”willthenappearondisplay.To

unlock the control, press “Alarm Reset”for3seconds.Fortherstsecond,“U” will appear, and then the current

temperature will appear.

• TempAlarm

This eature is designed to provide

a warning i the inside temperatureexceeds23°F.“HITEMP”feature

operates on household electricity.It will not unction i householdelectricity is interrupted.

• Whenthefreezerisinitiallypluggedin,thered“HI TEMP” indicator will be on and the buzzer will

sound. The indicator light will stay on until the reezertemperatureisbelow23°F.Tosilencethebuzzer,

presstheALARMRESETbutton.

• Ifamalfunctioncausesthetemperatureinsidethefreezertoriseabove23°F,the“HITEMP”lightwillturn

on and the buzzer will sound. The buzzer will sound

your personal satisaction. To adjustthe temperature setting, turn thetemperature control knob clockwiseor counter clockwise. Allow several

Press “Alarm Reset” to turn the alarm o. The “DoorAjar” indicator will remain lit unril the door is closed.

I the door remains open or 15 minutes or more, theinterior lamp will turn o.

Should an “E” appear on display, contact your authorizedservice technician or repair. Until changes are made,

reezer will continue to run.

Slide-Aside Basket

SlIDE-ASIDE BASkET (SOME ChEST MODElS)

This basket helps organize odd-shaped items. To reachother packages in the reezer, slide the basket aside, or litout.

ADJUSTABlE ShElF (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)

Thisshelfcanbemovedtooneortwopositions.Lifttheshel up and out to move to the desired location.

FAST FREEzING ShElVES (MANUAl DEFROSTUPRIGhT MODElS)

These shelves contain cooling coils to reeze oods quickly

and allow cold air to constantly circulate throughout thereezer. Do not use sharp metal objects such as ice picks

or scrapers to clean the shelves. This could damage theshelves and reduce their cooling ability. These shelves are

not adjustable.

TIlT-OUT ShElF (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)

This shel is located inside on the reezer door and pro-

vides additional storage space. To access an item, tilt thetop o the “basket” shel down.

Tilt-Out Shel

Use these handy dividers to keep the various items stored

in your baskets more organized. To change the location othe divider simply slide your basket out, grab the dividerrom the center and rotate in a counter-clockwise direction

until it is disengaged. To assemble, simply align as shownin the gure below and rotate in a clockwise direction until

it spans into place.

BASkET DIVIDER (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)

SOFT FREEzE zONE (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)

SoftFreezeZoneisspecicallydesignedtomaintainahigher temperature than the rest o the reezer to storeproducts such as ice cream.

PIzzA ShElF (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)Here is the place to store up to our extra-large boxes o rozen

pizza without ever having to dig them out rom beneath a pileo other stored goods.

The pizza shel can be retracted to provide space or larger

items on the shel below, and still store up to two morepizzas.

ADJUSTABlE DOOR BINS (SOME UPRIGhT MODElS)

Adjustable door bins are located inside on the reezer doorand provide fexible storage space. The number o bins

provided varies by model.

ChEST DIVIDER (SOME ChEST MODElS)Use these clever dividers to custom-arrange a variety odierent-sized storage bins in the bottom o your chest reezer.

Use the peel-n-stick labels ound in your literature packet tohelp remind you which items are stored where. I you have

an item that isn’t already covered by one o the pre-printedlabels then use one o the blank labels and a permanentmarkingpentomakeyourowncustomlabel.Labelscanbepeeled o when no longer needed and replaced by new anddierent ones.

CARE AND ClEANING

Some upright reezers are rost-ree and derost automati-cally, but should be cleaned occasionally.

BETwEEN DEFROSTINGS

To avoid requent derosting, occasionally use a plasticscraper to remove rost. Scrape with a pulling motion.

Never use a metal instrument to remove rost.

DEFROSTING

It is important to derost and clean the reezer when ¼ to½inchoffrosthasaccumulated.Frostmaytendtoaccu-mulate aster on the upper part o the reezer due to warm,

moist air entering the reezer when the door is opened.Remove ood and leave the door open when derosting thereezer.

Damp objects stic to cod metasuraces. Do not touc interior meta

suraces it et or damp ands.

Freeer must be unpugged (to avoid eectrica

aard) rom poer source en derosting unit.

CAUTION

To Derost Uprigt Modes it Derost Drain:· Remove the drain plug on the inside foor o the reezer by

pulling it straight out.· To access external drain tube on models with a base panel,rstremovethetwoscrewsfromthebasepanel.Locatethe drain tube near the let center under the reezer.

· Place a shallow pan under the drain tube. Derost water

will drain out. Check the pan occasionally so water doesnot overfow (see gure 1).

· A ½ inch garden hose adapter can be used to drain thereezer directly into a foor drain. I your model is not equippedwith an adapter, one can be purchased at most hardwarestores.

· Replace the drain plug when derosting and cleaning arecompleted. I the drain is let open, warm air may enter thereezer.

To Derost Cest Modesit Derost Drain:· Place a shallow pan or

the Divider/Drain Pan (iequipped) beneath thedrain outlet. Pull out theoutside drain plug (seegure 2). A ½ inch gardenhose adapter can be usedto drain the reezer directly

into a foor drain (see gure

ClEANING ThE INSIDEAter derosting, wash inside suraces o the reezer with

a solution o two tablespoons o baking soda in one quart(1.1litres)warmwater.Rinseanddry.Wringexcesswaterout o the sponge or cloth when cleaning in the area o the

controls, or any electrical parts.

Washtheremovablepartsanddoorbasketwiththebak-

ing soda solution mentioned above, or mild detergent andwarm water. Rinse and dry. Never use metallic scouring

pads, brushes, abrasive cleaners, or alkaline solutions onany surace. Do not wash removable parts in a dishwasher.

ClEANING ThE OUTSIDEWashthecabinetwithwarmwaterandmildliquidde-tergent. Rinse well and wipe dry with a clean sot cloth.

Replace parts and ood.

To Derost Modes itoutDerost Drain:· Place towels or newspapers

on the reezer bottom tocatch the rost. The rost willloosen and all.

· Remove the towels and/ornewspapers.

· I the rost is sot, remove itby using a plastic scraper. Ithe rost is glazed and hard,ll deep pans with hot water

POwER FAIlURE / FREEzER FAIlURE

NOTE: Do not open reeer doorunnecessariy i reeer is o orsevera ours.

I a poer aiure occurs, rozen oods will stay rozen orat least 24 hours i the reezer is kept closed. I the power

ailure continues, pack seven or eight pounds o dry iceintothefreezerevery24hours.LookintheYellowPages

under Dry Ice , Dairies , or Ice Cream Manufacturers or lo-cal dry ice suppliers. Always wear gloves and use cautionwhen handling dry ice.

I te reeer as stopped operating, see Freezer Does Not Run in the Troubesooting Guide. I you cannotsolve the problem, call an authorized servicer immediately.

I the reezer remains o or several hours, ollow the direc-tions above or the use o dry ice during a power ailure.I necessary, take the ood to a local locker plant until the

freezerisreadytooperate.LookintheYellowPagesunderFrozen Food Locker Plants .

Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments, whichcan scratch the reezer surace when removing adhesivelabels. Any glue let rom the tape can be removed with a

VACATION AND MOVING TIPS

Sort Vacations: 

• Leavethefreezeroperatingduringvacationsoflessthan three weeks.

long Vacations:I the reezer will not be used or several months:

• Removeallfoodandunplugthepowercord.

• Cleananddrytheinteriorthoroughly.• Leavethefreezerdooropenslightly,blockingitopenif

necessary, to prevent odor and mold growth.Moving:Whenmovingthefreezer,followtheseguidelinesto prevent damage:

• Disconnectthepowercordplugfromthewalloutlet.• Removefoods,thendefrost,andcleanthefreezer.

• Securealllooseitemssuchasbasepanel,baskets,and shelves by taping them securely in place to

prevent damage.• Inthemovingvehicle,securefreezerinanupright

position to prevent movement. Also protect outside o

reezer with a blanket, or similar item.

and place them on the reezer bottom.· Close the freezerdoor/lid. Frost should soften inabout

teen (15) minutes.

· Repeat this procedure is necessary.

Your appliance is covered by a one year limited warranty. For one year from your original date of

purchase, Electrolux will pay all costs for repairing or replacing any parts of this appliance that prove to

be defective in materials or workmanship when such appliance is installed, used and maintained in

accordance with the provided instructions.

This warranty does not cover the following:

1. Products with original serial numbers that have been removed, altered or cannot be readily determined.

2. Product that has been transferred from its original owner to another party or removed outside the USA or

Canada.

3. Rust on the interior or exterior of the unit.

4. Products purchased "as-is" are not covered by this warranty.

5. Food loss due to any refrigerator or freezer failures.

6. Products used in a commercial setting.

7. Service calls which do not involve malfunction or defects in materials or workmanship, or for appliances

not in ordinary household use or used other than in accordance with the provided instructions.

8. Service calls to correct the installation of your appliance or to instruct you how to use your appliance.

9. Expenses for making the appliance accessible for servicing, such as removal of trim, cupboards, shelves,

etc.,which are not a part of the appliance when it is shipped from the factory.

10. Service calls to repair or replace appliance light bulbs, air filters, water filters, other consumables, or

knobs, handles, or other cosmetic parts.

11. Surcharges including, but not limited to, any after hour, weekend, or holiday service calls, tolls, ferry trip

charges, or mileage expense for service calls to remote areas, including the state of Alaska.

12. Damages to the finish of appliance or home incurred during installation, including but not limited to floors,

cabinets, walls, etc.

13. Damages caused by: services performed by unauthorized service companies; use of parts other than

genuine Electrolux parts or parts obtained from persons other than authorized service companies; or

external causes such as abuse, misuse, inadequate power supply, accidents, fires, or acts of God.

DEFROST CONTROLAn automatic 30 minute defrosting period is initiated after every 12 hours of compressor running time. During the defrosting period a thermostat willswitch the defrost heater off after the frost on the evaporator has melted. Thedefrost thermostat closes at 25ºF and opens at 40ºF.
