The scripture readings of this Sunday tell us about the identity of Jesus, who He is and what his mission is. We need to know who Jesus is and understand His mission if we want to be His true disciples. In the gospel of this Sunday, we hear about Jesus’ first miracle since he began his public ministry after His baptism by John the Baptist. Jesus performed the miracle of changing water into wine at the wedding celebration at Cana. Many of the Jews were ex- cited about Jesus and even followed Him. However, they were primarily excited and fascinate by the different miracles that Jesus was performing for them. Many of the Jews missed the real point of Jesus’ miracles. They saw Jesus as a miracle worker and could not see that He was the Messiah, the Son of God. How many of us today, too, have similar attitudes toward Jesus in coming to Mass on Sundays? Do we come solely because we have needs that He can solve our problems or heal our illness? In itself to come to Jesus with our needs is good and important. But, if we see Jesus primarily as a miracle worker who is there to answer our needs only, then we will easily fall into the tempta- tions of developing a superficial “miracle-worker” relationship with Jesus. And such a relationship is never deep. It is like having a relationship with someone because of what the person can give me. If we marry for the wrong motives of secu- rity and not love, if we work solely for money and not serve the greater common good, if we join the priesthood and religious vocation to serve our need for self-glory and not out of our love for God, then our decisions and deeds will sooner or later create pains and problems that will destroy the peace that God wants us to have, and the love that God wants us to share in our lives. In St John’s Gospel, when Jesus performs miracles, they are meant to be signs or prophetic symbols of who Jesus really is. When Jesus performed the miracle, He was revealing the abundant goodness and divine generosity towards His people. Sadly, many of the Jews only enjoyed the wine and marvelled at the miracles of Jesus, but did not open themselves for the Truth that Jesus is the Messiah who had come to transform their lives. Ask ourselves today, “Are we like the Jews who enjoy the wine that Jesus gives us, but then push aside the truth that Jesus is the Messiah who wants to make our lives more fully?” The generosity of Christ is seen in all of His ministry: He changed water into wine to help those who are in need at the wedding; He fed the hungry people, He cured thousands of people who came to him with all kinds of illness, and most importantly the willingness of Jesus to go through His cruel humiliation and inhumane crucifixion, all because He loves us unconditionally and passionately wants to fulfill His Father’s Will for us. The challenge that each of us has to face daily is never to take Him for granted. When we are grateful to God for all the blessings that He has given us, we will then in turn develop a generosity of heart that seeks to live only in His Love and Ways. This weekend our parish is holding the Ministry Fair, it is an opportunity for all of us to see what services we have at St. Ed- ward’s and how we can share our time and talents to build the kingdom of God by involving and sharing in those ministries. I invite you to go down to the Parish Hall after each Mass to have a look around. Each ministry organization has a table to display their ministries, and they are willing to answer any question you have. Also if you want to know more about all the ministries of our parish, please check out the parish website: stwedwardsduncan.com under the ministries menu, you will see all the descrip- tions of all the ministries at our parish. Last but not least, many of you have asked me why we did not have projectors and power points for Mass any more, it is because I could not do it by myself since there were many other demanding pastoral responsibilities. I really need help with it. If you would like to help with the projector power point for the Masses, please see me after Mass. Or call the parish office. It’s a great ministry to help our parish community celebration. May God bless you for your dedication! Fr. “God gives us each unique gifts and talents

that we are to use to further the mission of the Church.”

Today’s second reading from Corinthians reminds us that God

has given each of us unique gifts which we are to use to help

build up the kingdom of God on earth. Living this out requires

ongoing prayer and discernment to identify our gifts and tal-

ents, and the resolve and determination to live in service to

God and neighbour.
