FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR’S OFFICE It is such a privilege to welcome all our staff, learners and parents to the new school year. Our teachers have planned some wonderful academic and extra-curricular activities for the learners and we are honoured to receive the children for another school year. A special word of welcome to all the new families who became part of the EPS family- may God truly bless you as you help us grow an excel- lent community school where God is first in everything we do. Our Grade 1, 8 and 12 learners are also worth a special mention as they have great milestone years ahead of them. Our Grade 1’s are at the be- ginning of their academic career and they are so excited about school, it makes everyone excited about school! May God bless them and help them to lay an excellent foundation filled with good habits for their school career. Our Grade 12s have the end of their 12 years in sight, much sooner than anyone expected. We pray for them as they prepare to take their NBT and SAT exams later this year. We trust that your hard work will pay off as you discover God’s next steps for your future. The Grade 8 learners who entered the high school this year have crossed the threshold into those very important high school years. May you make excellent decisions in the years to come. Decisions that will bring God’s best into your lives and may you live your high school years in His abun- dance. Congratulations, to the learners who received awards at the 2014 Awards Evenings! As a school community we are all proud of your hard work and commitment on both academic and spiritual levels. Keep up the hard work and excellence in 2015. January also brings a clean slate for everyone else and now is a good time to set new goals and work to- wards the dream of a year- end award. The playing field is equal for eve- ryone at this point…dream and conquer! Our High School students attended the All Africa Student Convention (AASC) from 7-12 December. United States of America this year: Jacqueline Holloway: 2nd place in Poetry recitation Dylan Mbamba: Golden Apple (memorizing Proverbs) Mpho Tjabane: 3rd place in High jump

Congratulations, to these three learners who gave of their best and are now able to not only represent our school, but our country abroad. We are proud of the hard work and commitment you have put into AASC 2014. The following 2 learners received top 10 placements, another sterling ac-complishment: Thabiso Senkhane: Top 10 for crochet Dominic Blignaut: Top10 for photography Well done, to these two learners who did brilliantly! I trust that your ac-complishments will inspire each and every high school learner to give of their best at the 2015 AASC. Participating in the AASC or the ISC is a wonderful opportunity, not only to build your CV in High School, but it also provides an opportunity to discover, grow and develop your God given talents. These are opportunities not to be missed. 2015 is a year filled with new promises and we are very excited about moving our Nursery School section to a brand new facility in April. As an-nounced at the Awards Evenings in 2014, EPS is opening an Early Learn-ing Centre in a joint venture with One Way Community Church. The Early Learning Centre will specifically focus on the needs of the early learner and specialise in developing and supporting these early years. Learners attending this campus will receive preferential placement on our waiting list for EPS Grade 1. Isaiah 43: “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something bra nd-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m ma king a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Wild animals wi ll say ‘Thank you!’ —the coyotes and the buzzards— Because I provided water in the desert, rivers thro ugh the sun-baked earth, Drinking water for the people I chose, the people I made especially for myself, a people custom-made to praise me.” We praise God for new beginnings and water in every desert! Orientation Like every single other High School, each new Grade 8 learner at EPS has to go through a stage when the other high school learners welcome them. Most people refer to this as initiation. At Emmanuel we call it orientation and it is different from many schools. The first day was quite interesting because everything was new to us in the high school. We were so con-fused and we didn’t know what to do. As each day went on, we got used to it. We also had fun activities during the day. We had to dress up and do the weirdest things, but it was always fun. I must say, this was a great experi-ence with many challenges and alt-hough it lasted only 1 week, we learned quite a lot. It taught us to be more patient, diligent, and deter-mined, and I wouldn’t have asked for any other school to welcome us to the high school lifestyle. Lindiwe Malinga Grade 8 Holidays My December holiday was great. I had a wonderful time with my family. On the 15th I flew to Qatar to see my brother and his family. I saw my two nephews – one is 2 and a half, and the other one is 5 months, they were adorable. My sister-in-law treated me to a man-icure, we also sang Karaoke to-

gether. I played a lot of board games with my brother. We went to a lot of malls and went to a variety of restaurants. My favourite was Star-bucks. My family and I went on a Dhow cruise and the rest of the time we relaxed and spent time together as a family. Jessica Engelbrecht Grade 9 Hello my name is Corlise Brand I had fun in the holidays. We played all day and swam all day. My whole family was there and I went to my grandfather’s farm. Corlise Brand Grade 3 My name is Sihle and I will talk about my holiday. I went to Durban city with my mom, dad, brother and my family friends. We slept at Blue Waters Hotel for 4 days and nights. We went to the sea and Us-kaka. It was fun. Sihle Mazibuko Grade 3 I had fun on my holiday. It was nice to play with my friends. At Africa was very nice and I had fun seeing the animals. We ate ice-cream and jelly. We fed the animals. The end. Nolwazi Mpetsheni Grade 3 All Africa Student Convention The All Africa Student Convention was probably the most wonderful experiences of my life so far. I absolutely loved meet-ing new people and seeing everyone’s talent. The evening rallies were amazing. That was when I literally felt the presence

of God and the Holy Spirit touching me. I really enjoyed Convention to the full and I would most definitely love to go again. Thabiso Senkhane Grade 9 My goals for 2015 Being a learner in Matric, planning and scheduling becomes difficult. I need more time but, it seems like I have less time. My goals for 2015 are to finish school and to achieve excellent marks. Another goal would be to be accepted to study for a BSC in environmental and engineering geology at university. Hard work and perseverance will help me to achieve my goals for 2015, and set new ones for 2016. May 2015 be a year filled with hard work.
