FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR’S OFFICE: The year 2016 has arrived and it promises to be a very special year! Not only has January brought much needed rain to our region, it also brought an excellent reason for an EPS community celebration. Emmanuel Private School will be celebrating its 20 th year of providing quality Christian Education to our community. Much has changed in 20 years, but the goodness of our God has remained! We are looking for- ward to a number of special events for our school as we celebrate the work Christ has done in this ministry. We are also declaring this a year of thankfulness, in which to remember the goodness of the God we serve. Join us, as we enter a year of thankfulness and remembrance! The following event is recorded in the gospel of Luke and it shows Je- sus’ own thoughts regarding gratefulness to God. Luke 17:11-19 The Message It happened that as he (Jesus) made his way toward Jerusalem, he crossed over the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he en- tered a village, ten men, all lepers, met him. They kept their dis- tance but raised their voices, calling out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Taking a good look at them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus said, “Were not ten healed? Where are the nine? Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this outsider?” Then he said to him, “Get up. On your way. Your faith has healed and saved you.” Let us choose this year to be like the one person who chose to turn around to give thanks and glory to God. Let us remind each other of all we have to be thankful for. Today, I am thankful to be part of this excel- lent school, with teachers who care not only about the minds, but also the souls and the world view of our learners. I am thankful for a commu-

nity of supportive parents who choose to care about their children’s eter-nal destiny and the continuous growth and development of our school. I am thankful to God for the amazing responsibility to be engaged in the education of the next generation. I am thankful for the spiritual partner we have in One Way Community Church, a church that chooses to in-vest in the lives of children and young people. I am thankful for the larger organisation of AEE and to be part of a group of people who believe in the future of South Africa and our children. I am thankful for every learner who walks the passages of our campuses and makes EPS the most special school to be a part of. Thank you, God, for all the EPS graduates who went forth and make a difference in the world today. Thank you, Father, that you have never failed us and that you are truly Emmanuel, God with us. The list of gratitude can continue for a long, long time- fortunately we have a full year to proclaim our gratitude! To all the new families and learners who joined our school community, may God bless you and may you contribute to the growth and develop-ment of this very special ministry. I would also like to wish all our grade 1, grade 8 and grade 12 learners an extra special year as they enter great new phases of their school ca-reer. May all our learners have a prosperous 2016, may you enjoy the year, do your best and more than anything, remember to be thankful and to give glory to God. Mrs. Christa Greyling Administrator

My Awesome Holiday My holiday was an awesome experience. We travelled far but it was worth it. First we went to the Karoo National Park for two nights. If you don’t know where it is, well it’s the place where Belvesta the lion lives. We didn’t see him but we saw plenty of other animals. After those two days we went to Jacobsbaai where we stayed in a house called “Beach House”. The house was right on the beach. We stayed there for a week and a half. We went to many different beaches, shops and restaurants too. Then we went home to celebrate Christmas. After Christmas we went to a game lodge in Bela-Bela and its name is “Silver Cloud”. They have a rare black giraffe there. We stayed there for the weekend and left on Monday. I really had an awesome holiday. Joshua Webber Grade 7 My family and I visited Durban during the school holidays. We stayed at a very nice hotel called “Garden Court”. The hotel we stayed at was very close to Durban’s North Beach. We woke up every morning, went to the beach and went back to the hotel. I really enjoyed going to Ushaka Marine World. I saw lots of sea creatures there. We watched dolphin, penguin and seal shows. We also went to the aquarium and saw lots of different fish and other sea creatures. We went to the flea market and bought small things. On Saturday the 19 December, we drove back home. Then my brother and I went to visit my granny who stays in Muvhango. We had lots of fun there and played all sorts of games with our cousins. When we were there we ate “skhambane”. Skhambane are sold for dif-ferent prices. I bought the one that costs R5. It contains bread, atchaar, polony and chips. It was very delicious.

Next we went to visit my aunt who lives in Cape Town. My brother and I played with my cousin. We swam in the swimming pool. My mom and aunt went often to the mall. My aunt took us to the arcade games too. On New Year we had a nice braai and we went to the beach for a picnic. The ocean’s water in Cape Town is very cold. I think Durban’s water is better. We also enjoyed fireworks there at the beach. I thank God for an awesome holiday. Naledi Mokoena Grade 7

My goals for the future I can’t believe the last year of my school career has arrived. It has been a great journey so far and I am sad to be leaving it behind, but I am ready and excited to start the next chapter of my life. My goals for this year are to improve my character and develop into the person God wants me to be. My goal is also to finish off my Grade 12 year well, and to achieve good marks to apply to university. As for the future, my goal is to have a career in which I can live out my dream of becoming a paediatrician. I feel that this is God’s purpose for my life so that I can use my passion to help those in need. Gabriella Jackson Grade 12 As we say goodbye to 2015, we welcome a new year. 2015 was filled with many great experiences, such as camps, Honour Roll trips, fund-raisers and much more. Thank you to all my friends and family and teachers who made it an awesome year and one not soon to be forgot-ten.I pray that all those who worked so hard and accomplished their goals will have the determination to continue and work even harder this year, and those who might have not had such a great year would see this as a clean slate and a new opportunity to do their best. I’m looking forward to seeing what this new year has to offer, so let us strive to make this the best year yet. Dylan Mbamba Grade 11

First Day Grade 1

Orientation Week On the first day of school in 2016, the grade eights became saplings. For the whole week we had orientation. We had to make boards with our baby pictures. We also had to choose out favourite matric and write the reason for choosing that matric on our board. I chose Jackie. We had to dress up like super-heroes, dress up in our sleepwear and dress up like the matric that adopted us. I had to dress up like Casandra. Every-thing we did was embarrassing but it was also a lot of fun. Michaela Rufo Grade 8

I’m so excited to be in high school. I know it will be fun and exciting, but before I become a Cedar, I have to go through orientation and do the craziest things. In the morning we have to crow like a rooster, we had to suck up on everything and we had to sing and dance too. All of this was rather embarrassing, but it was also fun. My favourite part of the orienta-tion was when we had to dress up as super-heroes and act like them. I did the silliest things ever. I also had to dress up as my leader, Lesetja. Then I had to act like him, which was fun and exciting too. This year is going to be a very good year. Thabang Dayasi Grade 8 The grade eight’s, have to do orientation in order for us to become proper high school students. So far we had to dress up as super-heroes, crow like roosters and dress up as our grade 12 sponsor. We also had to go to school in our pyjamas. I had to dress up as Captain America for the superhero thing which I enjoyed the most. I have really enjoyed it, however, I don’t really like to crow. We have been told there will be a test about everyone in the class so we have to ask some of the students questions in order to prepare for this test. I really have enjoyed the orientation. Liam Harrison Grade 8
