From the Desk of Mr. Sefcik and Mrs. Peters…
Welcome back! We are so excited for another fun and educational year. It was wonderful seeing so many families at Curriculum Night last week. We hope you found the evening informative and a great opportunity to meet the teachers, walk through your child’s schedule, become familiar with the grade level curriculum, and learn more about our PTA and Day of Service Project. Fox Lake District 114 is built on a foundation of our students, staff, families, and community. Cooperatively, we continuously work together to provide the best educational experience for our children. The model below displays how integral each component is to our achievements and how each member of our team relies on the other to be successful. Even if one member of our foundation becomes disengaged, our circle will be broken affecting our student’s learning and growth.
We are one team, all in, we are 114!
Thank you again for supporting your child’s education. We are off to a fantastic start!

We are excited for our 3rd Annual District 114 Day of
Service. It is our hope that this service project will not
just raise funds for the Fox Lake District 114 PTA, but
more importantly, give students an opportunity to serve in
the community and grow as individuals.
Our goal is to raise $25,000.00 for the PTA which will
benefit all students in Fox Lake District 114. The money
raised will be used for educational assemblies, field trips,
Family Nights, Principal Programs, athletic scholarships,
Earth Week activities, school dances, the Lotus and
Stanton libraries, Book Buddies, and the Mentor
Program.
Our Day of Service is similar to a walk-a-thon, but instead
of students collecting pledges to walk, students will seek donors to sponsor their
involvement in a service project within our community. We have organized a number of
various projects that will be completed on September 29 during our Day of Service. In
addition to the service projects on September 29, students who collect at least $200 in
pledges will participate in a field trip which will include an additional service opportunity
and cultural learning experience. (More details to follow)

Dear Parents and Guardians of 5th Grade
Students,
Instructors from the Robert Crown
Center for Health Education will be
visiting Stanton School on Tuesday,
October 10th from 9:00-10:30am
a.m. The topics that will be presented
are physical development of males and
females with an emphasis on changes
that occur at puberty.
Boys and girls will be in separate groups
for these presentations. Girls will see the
“Linda Program”: about feminine hygiene and physical development while the boys attend the “Michael
Program”. The girls’ program prepares pre-adolescent girls for the onset of menstruation. Included are
discussion and an appropriate video about emotional and physical aspects of puberty. Tips on good
grooming, proper diet and exercise, and personal pride are emphasized. Male puberty is discussed briefly
during the girls’ program as well.
Fifth graders have viewed this program for the past twenty years in Northern Illinois. The students, staff,
and parents from surrounding school districts have been impressed with the appropriateness and thorough
treatment of the subject in these professional presentations. The Robert Crown Center for Health
Education have visited Stanton School the last two years and we had very positive feedback!
This presentation is free of charge to all Stanton School 5th graders! We are asking parents to please fill
out the attached form ONLY if you would rather your child NOT attend the presentation by Friday,
September 29th. If you have any concerns, questions or feedback about the program please feel free to
call me at 847-973-4230.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in the continuing education of your son or
daughter here at Stanton School. Respectfully, Kimberly A. Husko Health Education/Physical Education Teacher Stanton School 847-973-4230

Fighting Foxes Sports News
Good Luck Foxes!
If we build it, they will read.
That was Mr. Sefcik’s vision when he began looking at the possibility of Little Free Libraries coming to neighborhoods within the Fox Lake School District 114 area. Mr. Sefcik spearheaded the project last year and is thrilled to report that the five Little Free Libraries have been a wonderful addition to our neighborhoods. Anytime of the day or night people can get a book or share a book without any
fee or library card. Mr. Sefcik, a book lover himself, wholeheartedly believes the benefits of the Little Free Libraries are endless and include a wonderful way to promote reading for children, literacy for adults, general neighborliness, and they will also cultivate a real spirit of generosity. “The idea that someone will take a book that piques their interest, and sometime in the future return either that book, or a totally different one is exciting,” said Principal Sefcik. “I personally witnessed Lotus Elementary students taking books and a Stanton student donating books to one of the libraries.”
Each Little Free Library was hand painted by Stanton students and the four locations are: the corner of Maude Avenue and Cora Avenue in the Hidden Glen Subdivision, the Community Garden, the corner of Kendall Avenue and Dewey Street in the Lake Vista Terrace Subdivision, Hickory Street in the Hidden Cove Mariana Subdivision, and the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Greenwood Avenue in the Lotus Woods Subdivision. A special thanks to the Fox Lake District 114 PTA and Robert D. Sayles Educational Foundation for funding the libraries and to the stewards for overseeing each library.
As of 2017, there are over 36,000 registered Little Free Libraries in all 50 states and 70 countries and Mr. Sefick couldn’t be more proud to count District 114’s four locations among them. This year alone, Little Free Libraries will help exchange an estimated 9.3 million books including those in the Fox Lake/Spring Grove area.
