gfdgdfgdg 2016 Friday 9th March, 2018 FROM THE HEADMASTER’S DESK SPRING TIME AT LAST! To mark the start of spring Lile Saints children have been busy planng some daffodils on the pre-school's decking area. They are looking forward to watching them flower. There have been a number of highlights this week but none more impressive than the lower school performance of The Wizard of Oz. My congratulaons to all the pupils who have taken part in the producon. What a pleasure it has been to see the boundless enthusiasm, energy and talent on display. I was delighted to see so many lower school pupils up on the stage, I am sure that they will long remember their moment in the limelight. As you will understand, a producon on such a scale takes a considerable amount of me, effort and organisaon and I would like to thank all the lower school staff for their support. I am parcularly grateful to Mrs Jones, Miss Agros and Mrs Bradford, without whose commitment and experse, this producon would not have been possible. This week I was also very fortunate to be invited to Recepon’s Mother’s Day Assembly. The children produced stunning portraits of their mums and they also shared their thoughts about what mums did while they were in school. It was all great fun and I would like to thank Mrs Schofield-Paffe and Mrs Shubrook for pung the assembly together. We look forward to Open Morning tomorrow and I would like to thank, in ancipaon, all the pupils and parents for their support.

FROM THE HEADMASTER’S DESK

SPRING TIME AT LAST! To mark the start of spring Little Saints children have been busy planting some daffodils on the pre-school's decking area. They are looking forward to watching them flower.

There have been a number of highlights this week but none more impressive than the lower school performance of The Wizard of Oz. My congratulations to all the pupils who have taken part in the production. What a pleasure it has been to see the boundless enthusiasm, energy and talent on display. I was delighted to see so many lower school pupils up on the stage, I am sure that they will long remember their moment in the limelight.

As you will understand, a production on such a scale takes a considerable amount of time, effort and organisation and I would like to thank all the

lower school staff for their support. I am particularly grateful to Mrs Jones, Miss Agrotis and Mrs Bradford, without whose commitment and expertise, this production would not have been possible.

This week I was also very fortunate to be invited to Reception’s Mother’s Day Assembly. The children produced stunning portraits of their mums and they also shared their thoughts about what mums did while they were in school. It was all great fun and I would like to thank Mrs Schofield-Paffett and Mrs Shubrook for putting the assembly together.

We look forward to Open Morning tomorrow and I would like to thank, in anticipation, all the pupils and parents for their support.

HAUSARREST! On Wednesday 28th February the Onatti Theatre Company came to the school once again to entertain the German pupils.

It was a great success and here are some of the pupils’ comments

Ellie, Year 9 On Wednesday, all of Year 7 and the rest of the German pupils were fortunate enough to watch a comical German play. The play was very entertaining and very interactive with the audience. A wide variety of German language was used and I’m sure that everyone knew some phrases at some point during the performance. Well done to Saskia and Lewis for their great use of German when they were asked to help out. I was also asked to participate in the play. I helped out with the ironing and acted as the younger sister, so also got to use my German speaking skills.

Overall, the performance was very educational as the actors gave the audience small hints as to what different words meant in English, meaning that we all learnt something new. We all had a great time watching it and are very grateful for this wonderful opportunity. Thank you to both actors and everyone who was involved in the play.

Alex, Year 7 The German play was really good. I understood so much of what they were saying. They were really comical and I liked it when they brought people up from the audience. It was a really nice way to finish off a school day.

Zen, Year 7 The play was about a teenager who invited different girls to his house. He preferred one particular girl, but the girl he didn’t like so much really liked him. There were two actors, one of whom played four different people. I really enjoyed the play and I understood some of it.

Ella, Year 7 I liked the German play because I understood more than I thought I would!

THREE LITTLE PIGS Little Saints children have been learning about the story of the Three Little Pigs this week. They have looked at photos of their own houses and decided if they are strong enough to keep out the big bad wolf. They have also enjoyed being imaginative in the construction role play area and getting messy exploring pigs in chocolate gloop.

FIRST SIGNS OF SPRING On Wednesday Reception children went on a walk to look for signs of spring. They carefully ticked off all the things they found on their checklist.

TALENT SHOW Report by Poppy, Year 9

On Friday 9th of February, I was delighted to finally turn our preparations for a lower school talent show into a reality. Freya, Rosie, Georgia and I worked together to organise the event as a fun way of raising money for the charity, Grove Cottage. Grove Cottage was established to provide adults and children of all ages with social and educational activities, in the hope of avoiding social isolation.

We had over twenty performances varying from singing to scooter skills. While judging was very difficult, first prize went to Sophie (Year 3) for her amazing solo performance, second prize went to Charlie (Year 4) for his highly imaginative observational limericks on members of staff and third prize went to Ellis (Year 2) for his brilliant drumming. A special mention to the Rainbow Rockets who showed us that they are the ones to watch as they entertained everyone with their fantastic song and dance performance.

As Year 9 pupils, we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the planning that went into this event and would be thrilled to do it again in the future. Again, a huge well done and thank you to everyone that took part!

SPORTS REPORT

FOOTBALL Report by Mat, Year 11 On Tuesday 6th of March the Year 10 and Year 11 boys took on Stewards school in a football match at Stewards School. We were keen to play and ready to take on any challenge that stood in our way. Every boy put in 100% which resulted in a 0-3 win to us. We went into the first half 0-1 up through a goal from Easton. We came in at half time with a completely different mind set - we were energetic and ready to score more goals. We knew we needed to score the second goal in the match to get closer to the win. We started the second half using the information and tactics that Mr Webster had told us at half time. Midway through the second half we managed to score our second goal thanks to Charlie, who managed to dribble past four opponents, doing well to stay on his feet, and finishing off with a left foot finish into the top left corner. After we went 0-2 up we were gaining confidence and wanted to attack more. Shortly after the second goal, we scored a third coming from the right wing. Harry received the ball and turned, passed his opponent, then crossed it in with power, causing the goalkeeper to fumble the ball into Easton’s path who managed to secure his second goal of the match and make it 0-3. Overall it was a great effort from the team, and a great 0-3 win, managing to pick up a clean sheet as well. Great way to start the football season!

RECEPTION The Reception pupils ran well this week in the mild weather. They lined up ready for a practice race and once they got going James, Amelia and Angus took an early lead. Amelia and Angus were still in the lead on the home straight, closely followed by Egan and Lucca.

NETBALL Report by Ellie, Year 9

On Wednesday 7th March, the Year 6/7 and 9 teams played a netball match. Our opponents, Burnt Mill, played very well giving our teams a tough challenge. Both teams worked hard, with everyone putting 100% effort into their game. Players of the match were Lucy (Year 7) and Ella (Year 9).

The overall score for the Year 9 game was 9-7 to us. Unfortunately, despite initially taking the lead, the Year 6/7s lost their game but still tried their very hardest.

Well done girls.
