School Matters FROM THE HEADMASTER’S OFFICE

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour and catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover. Mark Twain

The class of 2021 had their final gong function last Friday, which symbolised their coming of age and the end of their Midstream College journey. They also had a memorable matric farewell at school on the last Saturday of the spring holidays. I would like to wish them all of the best for their final exams that have already started on Tuesday. I am confident that they will ace these exams. Carpe diem, explore, dream and discover the big world out there in the years to come. Hamba Kahle … Mooi loop, class of 2021! We had the official opening of our new indoor swimming pool, as well as the Midstream Hub last Thursday and I would like to thank our directors for these state-of-the-art additions to our already wonderful facilities. Our swimmers are already reaping the fruits of practising in the warmer water indoors.

To be, or not to be, that is the question. Hamlet, Shakespeare

Fortunately, the question around vaccination is much easier to answer — vaccinate! All our learners are now eligible for the Covid-19 vaccination and I would like to urge parents to encourage your children, for your whole family’s safety, to be vaccinated. More and more universities, sporting and cultural events, to name

but a few, require people to be vaccinated to attend. This is another important Carpe Diem moment 😊. For your convenience, you are welcome to make bookings online at the Midstream Mediclinic (https://vaccinationbookings.mediclinic.co.za/clinic/midstream-hill/mediclinic-midstream-vaccination-site/) or Dis-Chem stores (https://www.dischem.co.za/covid-19-vaccination). Academics NOVEMBER EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS: GRADE 8-11

The timetable has been finalised and posted on both the school’s website and the learners’ tablets. Kindly take note of the following arrangements:

• Learners are to be at the exam venue 30 minutes before the session starts.

• Normal school rules (which includes appearance) apply during the exam.

• Learners will only be excused from a paper due to serious illness, in which case a medical certificate must be handed to the head of academics as soon as possible.

• Learners may not be in possession of any notes, a cell phone or a smart watch.

• If you would like your child to study under our supervision at school, you are requested to inform Ms Gina Jansen van Vuuren by e-mail ([email protected]) by Thursday, 4 November.

• Please take note that learners have two opportunities of checking their marked papers, i.e. 22 and 29 November. (See exam timetable for details.)

• Where learners are not able to write at school due to Covid-19, or have co-morbidities or are in a home where a family member has serious co-morbidities, the following IEB regulation applies: The learner must provide Mr Swart with a report from a medical doctor, identifying the co-morbidity or the person who has the co-morbidity and the risk posed by the learner.
