From the Superintendent With the Thanksgiving Break a little more than a week away, this would be a good time to pause for just a moment and think of all the things you might be thankful for. As a school district, we have countless reasons to be thankful this fall. The school year has gotten off to a very positive start this year and with the addition of new programs and activities students are experiencing a great deal of success. In addition we continue to be thankful for parents and residents of the district for their continued support and encouragement. We are thankful for staff members across the district that not only get our students to and from school safely, but also spend as much time as needed with our students to ensure their success. It is not uncommon to see staff members here in the buildings long after the school day has ended or here on the weekends working with students or getting ready for the upcoming week. In addition to the many positives on campus, we are all thankful that this country has such great men and women in the military. We are thankful they are doing their jobs to keep this country safe. We should always be thankful for our families. While letting others know that you are thankful is important, the most effective way to show your gratitude is to continue “paying it forward”. As the poem bellow describes those that participate in acts of kindness get much more in return. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving break. You Only Get to Keep What you Give Away It’s a universal law: You have to give before you can receive. You must plant your seeds, before you reap the harvest. The more you sow, the more you’ll reap. In giving to others, You’ll find yourself receiving more in return. Source Unknown Miami East Local Schools November 22, 2019

From the Superintendent

With the Thanksgiving Break a little more than a week away, this would be a good time

to pause for just a moment and think of all the things you might be thankful for. As a school

district, we have countless reasons to be thankful this fall. The school year has gotten off to a

very positive start this year and with the addition of new programs and activities students are

experiencing a great deal of success. In addition we continue to be thankful for parents and

residents of the district for their continued support and encouragement. We are thankful for staff

members across the district that not only get our students to and from school safely, but also

spend as much time as needed with our students to ensure their success. It is not uncommon to

see staff members here in the buildings long after the school day has ended or here on the

weekends working with students or getting ready for the upcoming week.

In addition to the many positives on campus, we are all thankful that this country has

such great men and women in the military. We are thankful they are doing their jobs to keep this

country safe. We should always be thankful for our families.

While letting others know that you are thankful is important, the most effective way to

show your gratitude is to continue “paying it forward”. As the poem bellow describes those that

participate in acts of kindness get much more in return. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable

Thanksgiving break.

You Only Get to Keep

What you Give Away

It’s a universal law:

You have to give before you can receive.

You must plant your seeds,

before you reap the harvest.

The more you sow, the more you’ll reap.

In giving to others,

You’ll find yourself receiving more in return.

cafeteria Staff, and students across the District for their time and effort in

Girls on the Run Baby Blanket Drive

The Miami East Elementary Girls on the Run team would like to thank our Miami East

Community for their support of their service project. The 32 girls on the team selected their

service project this year and they wanted to collect baby blankets for an area hospital. The girls

set a goal of 75 to 100 blankets to donate to Upper Valley Medical Center Maternity Unit. The

girls fell a little short of their goal coming in at a total of 58 blankets. Through our community

support the girls were able to collect 18 plush baby blankets and 40 receiving baby blankets to be

donated to Upper Valley Medical Center Maternity Unit. Once again on behalf of the Miami East

Girls on the Run program we would like to thank you for your support.

Thank you,

Coach Woodward

Member Receives FFA Jacket from Sponsor

Recently, Beck’s Superior Hybrids of Atlanta, Indiana donated an FFA jacket to a member of the

Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter. The jacket was made available through a special project of

the Ohio FFA Foundation. The Blue Jackets Program was founded to help new FFA members

earn their first FFA jacket. Participating FFA members pledge to meet the Blue Jacket Program

requirements and the jackets will be awarded to them.

Requirements of the Blue Jacket Program include attending two FFA events, completion of 10

hours of community service, submission of satisfactory plans for a Supervised Agricultural

Experience Program, service on an FFA Program of Activities committee, completion of a high

school agricultural education course, and attendance at 80% of the FFA chapter meetings.

Additionally, the members selected agree to maintain a positive and cooperative attitude. This

year there were 600 applicants statewide and 179 FFA jackets awarded.

Selected from Miami East-MVCTC FFA was Sumsaar Thapa. Sumsaar is a first year FFA

member at Miami East High School. She has attended numerous FFA activities including FFA

Meetings, the National FFA Convention and is preparing for the Novice Parliamentary

Procedures Career Development Event. Sumsaar is the daughter of Nisha Panday and Sanjeev

Thapa of Troy.

Alumni Hall of Fame

The Alumni Hall of Fame applications are currently available in the Board office. Each

year nominations for the Miami East Alumni Hall of Fame are sought from employees of the

district, alumni, and community members. Nominations should be sent to the Superintendent’s

office. Committee members who are selected by the superintendent will meet and review the

nominated candidates in March. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2020.

The following criteria are used for selection of alumni candidates for Induction:

A. Outstanding achievement in vocational pursuits

B. Outstanding contributions in community and/or government affairs.

C. Meritorious recognition for some action taken or provided.

D. Significant philanthropic involvement.

BEWARE OF SCHOLARSHIP SCAMS

A good rule of thumb is “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!” All sources for

scholarship information are available at no cost. A Service that charges a fee is only doing the

same thing and finding out the same information that you can – for free.
