Dear parents, carers and friends of our school,

Stage 3 Camp

Last week Stage 3 had the amazing opportunity to visit camp Morisset. We had a great time away from our parents and with our friends. There was a diverse variety of thrilling activities to take part in

and a majority of participants enjoyed the giant swing and mud world the most. Even the teachers joined in!

With breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and dessert, no one went hungry at Morisset camp. The instructors were kind, humourous people who encouraged us to give everything a go and try our best. Even though we were out of school grounds, we all followed our PBL values of respect, responsibility and excellence so that everyone felt safe and had a good time. 2020 Stage 3 camp was awesome! :) See page 4 for more photos.

Attendance

Please ensure your child is at school every day on time if they are not sick. Regular attendance is an important part of students being successful in all parts of school life. There are a lot of students coming to school not on time. Please make sure we work on this. Attendance is a priority area for the Port Stephens network of schools, and we are aiming to continue to increase the attendance rates across our schools.

Enrolments and Classes for 2021

Each year careful consideration is undertaken by all our staff members in the formation of our classes for the following year. There are many factors we take into consideration. One of those factors is parental input. As we will begin the pro-cess in the second half of this term if you would like us to consider some information in relation to your child could you please complete the form that is attached to this week’s newsletter and hand it in to the school by Friday 20 November– Please do not email or send in another note. This year input completed on the correct form will be considered. Also, please let the office staff know if your child/children are leaving Shoal Bay Public School next year. If you have a child starting school in 2021 please let the office staff know as soon as possible. If you know of any family in the community that have children starting at Shoal Bay PS let the family know to inform the office staff ASAP.

Writing

I have included some fantastic writing samples from 3/4S. They shared their work with me and I loved it and wanted to share it with everyone. I hope you enjoy. Please see page 4 for the rest of the stories.

Burglar Bill

Quietly but quickly, a man named Bill strategically clambered through the window and ‘borrowed’ the dark haired wom-an’s ruby gemmed ring from the oak wood coffee table. The man with a wispy grey head of hair (who was the dark haired woman's husband), scrambled from his bed sheets and stumbled down the spiral black staircase. Instantly his eyes wandered to the coffee table to find that the $30,000 ring had vanished. His long grey dressing gown hung down to the floor. When Bill had come home he had felt nauseated and sick, but when he took the ring out of his duffel bag he felt as jolly as usual. Silently the independent Bill crept into his single shaggy nothing less bed. As soon as his head hit the pillow, he fell asleep cuddling up to his dog Leroy who was curled up in a ball on the blue hot water-bottle as usual.

As soon as Bill had woken up, he felt an agonising pain in the left side of his stomach. Leroy had jumped off the bed and down the rickety wooden staircase which was much less fancy than the wealthy dark haired woman's house. Leroy swiftly walked into the closed in squishy kitchen. Bill knew that something important had happened for Leroy to be out of bed at this hour. He cautiously followed Leroy’s muddy paw prints to the kitchen. Beady eyes stared unblinkingly at Bill from the snake pit that had formed on the kitchen tiles. A deadly one. One that would kill you in a minute. One that not even Bill could fix. In Bill's point of view, it was the dark haired woman whose ring he had stolen. She wanted to scream but Bill could tell that nothing except silence came out of her mouth.

Stage 2 Camp

On Thursday 12 November, Stage 2 were blessed with a sunny day to go on a walking excursion to Fingal Beach. During the walk we learned about our natural environment around us. We had fun with contests, races and strategy games. There was even some time on the playground and the flying fox was a huge hit! All in all, we had an amazing day in a beautiful part of our local area.

S2 Walking Excursion. Quote from one student “the most fun excursion ever”.

Red blood

From the unknown, a magically, evil vampire burst through Earth's space bubble. The disgustingly, revolting catastrophe appears with blood dripping down his nauseating teeth with a stench. The terrified girl, behind the demonic vampire with a blue skirt and red shirt, screams with fear as the vampire stares into her green eyes. Hideously, the shocking vampire ignored the girl and ran off down the street.

Everywhere she looked, she thought of the erratic vampire with a dark black cape that would hide the kidnapped children he stole. His agonising body hovers around the mysterious, transparent city with a space bubble that's invisible! How did the catastrophe get through the invisible city?

Veelia the voodoo doll

In front of 61 Rigney Street Shoal Bay, the first sound of the day was Bang! Bang! Bang! Veelia was back… Veelia has a demonic, agonising smile that she uses to paralyse people and if that doesn’t work she would use her kettle drum. Her most recent address was 61 Rigney Street. Inside 64 Rigney Street you could hear her deafening screech. She has a brightly flashing red silhouette that stares into your soul at night.

I walked to the address 61 to see what this sound could be. I saw something flashing red. I thought it was a torch but when it started to get closer I started running. As quick as a flash, I had lost the chase. Veelia had caught me. I tried to scream but nothing other than thin air came out of my mouth. Veelia took me to the computer room at address 61 and locked me in the store room. Why did Veelia come to Earth and not a different planet?

The unknown creature

Down by the cliffs, the unknown creature ponders the sea. The hunched silhouette body approaches me. His agonisingly smelly breath flows through the air. In the blink of an eye, he had disappeared. I was astonished. As he emerged through the dark, what came out of my mouth was nothing other than a silent scream. His wrinkly old hand, with rotten grey nails, touched my shoulder. Without a sound, he erratically fell to the ground and left an old rusty ring behind. It looked a little familiar. Without a doubt, I grabbed the ring out of his hand. How did the ring get to him? Did he pass away? I was trying to yell help but the hospital was north of here. SUDDENLY I HEARD A BANG! BANG!
