A statement of the whole cancer problem is presented for the lay reader by the managing director of the Amiierican Society for the Control of Cancer. Emphasis is placed upon the importalnce of early detection and treatment of the disease.

A story of the life and behavior of elephants in Africa, as observed by the author who has developed a real affection for these animals. He writes of their human characteristics, their charges and stampedes, their family life and domesticatioln, etc.

A Book of Wild Flowers. M. McKENNY and Illus- trated by E. F. JOHNSTON. $2.00. Macmillan.

This book presents brief descriptive notes, and pic- tures, of a selection of some of the most widely dis- tributed plants. The color pictures show the flowers in full bloom arid the small black anld white sketches the
