Your Guide To CommuniTY FundraisinG So you want to put your compassion into action? Fundraising within your community is a fantastic way to raise funds for and awareness of Caritas Australia’s life-saving aid and development programs around the world.

You have the power to really make a difference!

BEforE yoU start, arm yoUrsElf with knowlEdgEIf you’re fundraising for Caritas Australia you probably already have a strong sense of social justice. It also helps to be armed with knowledge, so here are some bite-sized facts.

Thanks to fantastic volunteer fundraisers like you we are able to keep fundraising and administration costs to a minimum, ensuring that more of your funds go directly to the people we support.

Caritas Australia is a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) and is fully accredited by AusAID.

• Sellticketsorgetsponsoredforyourefforts(contactusforsponsorbooks).

• Publicisetheevent,speaktoeveryoneaboutwhatyou’redoing.Includefriends,media,colleagues,evenyourbossorteacher!

Here’s a tiP:Beforeyouapproachapotentialsponsor,createasponsorshipproposalandoutlinehowyouwillprovideappropriaterecognitionfortheircontribution.Youcanofferlogoplacementontheeventposterorverbalrecognitionattheevent.It’simportanttoshowhowyoureventwillhelpthecompany’svisibility.

Everybody has a different asking style, so play to your strengths. And remember, your fundraising target may be daunting but if you break it down into small bits it will appear much more achievable.

FAQSCan we use the Caritas australia logo in the promotion of our event?Permission to use the Caritas Australia logo is given on a case by case basis once the registration application has been assessed. The use of the Caritas Australia name and logo must only be used to announce that you are raising funds for Caritas Australia, not on our behalf. Examples of phrases you could use include:

‘In support of Caritas Australia’ ‘Proudly supporting Caritas Australia’s work’

are the donations we ColleCt tax deduCtible?Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. The receipting process for donations will depend on how the donation is pledged.

• Ifyouareusingsponsorbooks,youcanreceiptthedonorimmediately with the tear off strip on the bottom of the sponsor slip.

• Ifyouarefundraisingonline,thedonorwillbereceiptedautomatically via email once their credit card donation has been confirmed.

• Ifyouarecollectinggeneraldonations,youmustprovideCaritasAustralia with your donors’ details using the Donor Receipt Form. We will send receipts via mail or email once the funds are received.

Please also note that monies received in exchange for goods or services,suchasticketstoanevent,donotconstituteadonationand are not tax deductible.

do we need insuranCe and will Caritas australia Cover us?ForlargepubliceventsyoumayneedPublicLiabilityInsurance.This can be gained from any large insurer at a cost commensurate withthesizeofyourevent.InsomecasesCaritasAustraliawillbeabletoextendinsurancetocoveryourevent,ifyouwouldliketorequestinsurancecoverfromCaritasAustraliapleasefillintheRiskAssessment form.

Itisimportantyougetthenecessarypermitsforthetypeofeventyou wish to hold. Please contact the relevant state agency. The contact details, as well as regulations for each state, can be found ontheAustralianTaxationOfficewebsite.

Can Caritas australia provide us with any Collateral or a presenCe at the event?Caritas Australia has many downloadable resources on the events section of the website. These include posters, videos, sample donation request letters and more. We can also send out sponsorshipbooklets,posters,bannersandt-shirtstodedicatedfundraisers.

As Caritas Australia has a nationwide presence through our Diocesan Directors, it is sometimes possible to organise a Caritas Australia representative at your event. We will try our best to support you but attendance from a Caritas Australia representative will depend on availability.
