We will work in partnership across the world– integrating and catalysing expertise and research within Strathclyde and other research institutes. Working with Glasgow and other cities. Working with commercial organisations, local and national government. Helping citizens to understand their cities in new ways.

These partnerships will be strengthened and developed throughout the life of the Institute.

We will demonstrate an integrated, holistic approach – that allows cities to be seen as interlinked systems of systems – delivering stronger impacts and more resilient cities.

The Institute will enable policy makers, citizens, service providers, investors, businesses, and researchers to analyse, model and understand their cities in new ways.

Delivering tangible benefits - enabling policy makers to create strategies that have greater positive impacts and reduced risk; citizens to influence and make better use of services, make informed decisions, live richer and more fulfilled lives; and businesses to identify new opportunities and create new business models.

Over half the world’s population now lives in cities – and globally cities will continue to grow. The issues and opportunities for current and future cities are large, complex and difficult. Multiple organisations and disciplines need to work together to develop effective solutions.

The Institute for Future Cities is creating a focus and strategy that will deliver a coordinated approach to tackling some of the major issues facing the world today.

Over half the world’s population now lives in cities – and globally cities will continue to grow.

The role of cities and how we live and work in them has never been more important.

The Institute will be a world-leading centre for research and teachingon smart sustainable cities that integrates and catalyses expertise and research across sectors and multiple disciplines, to address challenges, seize opportunities, and inform decisions.
