De passage à Cannes pour la promotion de Monsieur papa, le premier film réalisé par son ami Kad Merad, l’actrice

nous a reçu sur la plage du Majestic.

Gala : Vous êtes Niçoise d’origine. Petite, le festival de Cannes vous faisait-il rêver ?Michèle Laroque : Pas du tout. Pour moi, Nice est loin de Cannes, ce sont deux mondes différents. Et petite, j’étais intéressée par le sport, le cinéma ne m’attirait pas plus que ça. Je suis venue ici pour la première fois à l’âge adulte, en 1993. J’ai monté les marches pour L’enfant roi de Roger Planchon. Toute l’équipe du film était là, mes parents aussi, j’en avais les larmes aux yeux !Gala : Cette émotion est-elle aussi intense lorsque l’on vient chaque année ?M. L. : Non, c’est vrai. Après le travail l’emporte sur l’émotion, et le stress pointe le bout de son nez. Mais attention, de toute ma carrière, je n’ai eu qu’un film en compétition. Gala : Justement, vous êtes à Cannes, mais n’avez pas de film en compétition. Qu’y fait-on dans ces cas-là ?M. L. : On vient travailler ! En l’occurrence, je viens faire la promotion de Monsieur papa, le premier film réalisé par Kad Merad, qui sort le 1er juin. Du coup, avec ce recul, je ressens plus l’hystérie collective, tout le monde crie, court dans tous les sens. Il faut être costaud pour garder son calme. Gala : Vous êtes aussi Californienne d’adoption. Robert De Niro, vous le connaissez personnellement ?M. L. : Non, mais je vais vous confier quelque chose : un soir à Los Angeles, j’étais invitée chez Veronique Pecq, la veuve de Gregory, et Robert était là. Il m’a raconté qu’il a pris des cours à l’Alliance française de New York, six heures par jour pendant six mois pour apprendre le français, qu’il parle très bien. C’est un véritable stakhanoviste ! Gala : Vous être très discrète lorsqu’il s’agit de votre vie privée. C’est vital ?M. L. : Oh oui ! Je vous rappelle que dans vie privée, il y a privé, et ce qui est privé n’est pas public. Je suis comme une lionne qui veut garder sa vie secrète, c’est la condition sine qua non pour être heureux.

beach of the Majestic.Gala: You’re originally from Nice. Did the Cannes Film Festival fire your child’s imagination when you were a girl?Michèle Laroque: Not at all. To me, Nice is far away

from Cannes, they’re two different worlds. And

when I was little, all I thought about was sports;

movies didn’t interest me that much. I came here

for the first time when I was an adult, in 1993. I

climbed the stairs for Roger Planchon’s Louis, the

Child King. The entire film crew was there, my

parents, too. I had tears in my eyes!

Gala: Is this emotion as intense for those

who come every year?

M.L.: No, it’s true, it isn’t. Later on, the work

overtakes the emotion, and stress starts to come

into play. But it must be noted that, in my entire

career, I only had one movie in competition.

Gala: Exactly, you’re in Cannes, but you don’t

have a film in competition. What do you do in

these cases?

M.L.: We come to work! In my case, I’m here to

promote Mr. Papa, the first film directed by Kad

Merad, which is coming out on June 1. So, since I

can stand back from it all now, I feel this mass

hysteria more, everyone cries, runs around this way

and that. It must be tough to stay calm.

Gala: You’re also an adopted Californian. Do

you know Robert De Niro personally?

M.L.: No, but I’ll tell you something: One night in

Los Angeles, I was invited to Veronique Peck’s place,

the widow of Gregory, and Robert was there. He

told me he took classes at the Alliance Française in

New York, six hours a day for six months, to learn

French, he speaks very well. He’s a real overachiever!

Gala: You’re very discreet when it comes to

your privacy. Is that vital for you?

M.L.: Oh yes! Don’t forget that in any private life,

there’s private, and what’s private is not public. I’m

like a lioness who wants to keep her life a secret,

that’s the sine qua non of happiness.

Gala : Vous êtes une habituée du Festival…Eva Herzigova : Oui, je viens chaque années depuis… Oh la la,

au moins douze ans ! Mais c’est toujours aussi excitant parce que les photographes sont totalement fous. On est aveuglés par les flashs, il y a la musique, le bruit. Ce n’est pas un tapis rouge comme les autres. Là, c’est 360° de lumière. On est comme dans un tourbillon. C’est difficile de contrôler la pause, l’angle. Gala : Vous étiez sublime mercredi soir, sur les marches du palais, dans votre short Dolce & Gabbana dévoilant une ligne parfaite, à peine plus de deux mois après avoir accouché de votre deuxième bébé, Philip…E. H. : Merci ! Pourtant, j’avais quand même pris 18 kilos pendant ma grossesse. Mais j’ai de la chance : sans régime – parce que j’allaite – et sans faire trop de sport, j’ai retrouvé ma ligne facilement. Gala : Etes-vous venue en famille, ici, à Cannes ? E. H. : Non. Il n’en a pas été question. Je suis là pour travailler. Je prends mon rôle d’ambassadrice du joaillier Chopard très au sérieux. Et, de toutes façons, je préfère séparer vie familiale et vie professionnelle. Quelle maman emmène ses enfants au bureau ? Non, non, je ne veux pas ça pour eux. Même si c’est la première fois que je quitte mon petit bébé pour plusieurs jours et que, c’est vrai, j’avais un peu de chagrin avant le départ.Gala : Profiterez-vous des fêtes et du fun pour vous changer les idées ? E. H. : Pour la jeune maman que je suis, ce n’est pas la priorité. Je sélectionne mes sorties. Participer à l’Amfar, c’est important. Mais pour le reste, je préfère rester au calme. Gala : Quel genre de maman êtes-vous ?E. H : J’aime beaucoup mon rôle de mère. Je suis fière de ce statut. Sortir, faire la fête, ne me manque pas. J’adore être avec mes enfants, je les protège. J’aime savoir ce qu’ils font, ce qu’ils mangent… Alors j’envoie beaucoup de SMS. Parce que je suis une maman qui travaille et que c’est très important pour moi. J’ai besoin de cet équilibre.

Gala: You’re a regular here at the Festival...Eva Herzigova: Yes, I’ve been coming

every year for...wow, at least twelve

years! But it’s always exciting because the

photographers are totally crazy. We’re blinded by

the flashes, there’s music and noise. This is a red

carpet unlike any other. Here it’s 360 degrees of

light. It’s like you’re in a whirlwind. It’s hard to be in

control of when you stop, the angle of the shot….

Gala: You were sublime Wednesday evening

on the Palais steps, in your Dolce & Gabbana

shorts showing your perfect figure, just over

two months after giving birth to your second

baby, Philip…

E.H.:Thank you! Yet I still gained 18 pounds during

my pregnancy. But I’m lucky: without dieting -

because I’m breastfeeding - and without having to

do too much exercise, I got my figure back easily.

Gala: Did you come to Cannes with your

family?

E.H.: No, that wouldn’t happen. I’m here to work. I

take my role of Chopard jewellery ambassadress

very seriously. And anyway, I prefer keeping my

work life and family life separate. What mother

takes her children to the office? No, no, I don’t want

that for them. Even if this is the first time I’ve left my

little baby for several days and, yes, I felt pretty sad

about leaving.

Gala: Planning to take advantage of your

holiday and all the fun to take your mind off

things?

E.H.: Being a young mother, that’s not a priority. I’m

selective about going out. Being part of the amfAR

event is important. Otherwise, I really prefer a

calmer atmosphere.

Gala: What kind of mother are you?

E.H: I love my role as a mother. I’m proud of that

status. I don’t miss going out and partying. I love

being with my kids, I protect them. I love knowing

what they’re doing, what they’re eating... So I send

lots of text messages. Because I’m a working mom

and that’s very important to me. I need that

balance.

Il y avait une superambiance pendant la projection, ils applaudissaient spontanément et j’avais trois profs mortes de rires.Gala : Parlez-nous du professeur Latouche, vous avez travaillé avec un coach pour construire ce personnage ?E. S. : J’ai pris ce rôle très au sérieux. On n’est ni dans une petite annonce ni dans un sketch, quand on connaît le passé et la psychologie de son personnage, on n’est plus obligé d’en faire des caisses.Gala : Vous envisagez de faire un film dramatique ?E. S. : Faire mon Tchao Pantin n’est pas mon obsession, sauf si je tombe sur un film fantastiquement noir. Quand on a le talent de faire rire, et j’espère l’avoir, c’est dommage de ne pas en faire profiter les autres. Je ne sais pas si j’aurai aimé voir de Funès dans un rôle sérieux, je préfère rire avec lui.Gala : Dans ce film, l’élève Ducobu, le héros, s’avère être un tricheur invétéré. S. : On triche forcément, tout est fabriqué sur un tournage, la seule chose qui soit vraie, c’est la sincérité de l’acteur.Gala : Vous avez déjà monté les marches, toujours sous le charme ?E. S. : Quand on avance très lentement en voiture vers le Palais des festival, on ne peut pas échanger avec les gens qui nous appellent, on est comme des idiots chacun d’un côté de la vitre. Le passage devant le mur de photographes reste toujours aussi impressionnant.

de Chauveron’s film, L’Elève

Ducobu, at the opening of

the Cannes Junior Festival, and you

had a first-rate audience...

E.S.: It’s a family film for children. The

atmosphere during the screening was

great, they applauded spontaneously

and there were three teachers on the

floor laughing.

Gala: Tell us about Professor

Latouche – so you worked with a

coach to build this character?

E. S.: I took this role very seriously. We’re

not doing an advert or a skit; when you

know your character’s past and

psychological makeup, you no longer

have to overdo things.

Gala: Are you thinking of doing a

dramatic film?

E. S.: I’m not set on doing a harsh reality

movie, unless I come across some

fantastic film noir. When you have the

knack for making people laugh, and I

hope I do, it’s a shame not to share it with

others. I don’t know if I would have liked

seeing Funès in a serious role, I’d rather

laugh with him.

Gala: In this film, Ducobu, the hero,

proves to be an inveterate cheater.

Do you cheat when you act?

E. S.: Of course we cheat; everything

during a movie shoot is fabrication. The

only true thing is the actor’s sincerity.

Gala: You’ve already climbed the

Palais stairs…are you still feeling the

glow?

E. S.: When you’re very slowly

approaching the Palais des Festival in a

car, you can’t interact with the people

calling out to you; we’re like idiots, each

on his side of the window. Passing in

front of the wall of photographers is still

pretty intimidating.

Difficile d’apercevoir les stars de ce 64e festival de Cannes en deuxième partie de soirée. A l’ins-tar de BAR REFAELI, SEAN PENN ou PATRICK DEMPSEY, ils préfèrent se retrouver à l’abri des photographes dans les luxueux yachts amar-rés en baie de Cannes. Parmi les plus prisés, ceux du milliardaire PAUL ALLEN (co-fonda-teur de Microsoft), du créateur de la marque Diesel, RENZO ROSSO, ou de l’oligarque russe ROMAN ABRAMOVITCH.

Agapes. Comme chaque année, la ville de Cannes organise un aïoli géant de 1 000 cou-verts à l’attention des membres du jury et de la presse accréditée. Aujourd’hui, ROBERT DE NIRO et ses jurés, dont JUDE LAW et UMA THURMAN, se retrouveront donc place de la Castre pour découvrir les spécialités locales tels que la tape nade, la pissaladière ou une tourte aux blettes sucrées. Qui aura la palme du plus fin gourmet ?

Détente. Amateurs de pétanque, FABIEN ONTENIENTE et CHRISTOPHER THOMPSON ont profité de leurs passages à Cannes pour faire une partie en marge du Festival. Et pour la pre-mière fois depuis qu’ils s’affrontent, c’est le réalisateur de Bus Palladium qui a gagné. La revanche est déjà prévue ! Bien-être. JEAN-PIERRE DARROUSSIN, PHILIPPE VANDEL, DELPHINE CHANÉAC, ils sont tous venus se faire chouchouter au spa des stars situé au bout de la Croisette au Radis-son Blu 1835 Hotel. Coiffure, manucure, bains japonais, hammams, massages, gommages… sont proposés. 2 700 m2 de pur plaisir en somme !

Décontractée. A la plage Orange, c’est pieds nus que CHARLOTTE LE BON, la Miss Météo de Canal+, a dansé une bonne partie de la soirée. Qu’elle soit sur le plateau du « Grand Journal » ou en soirée, la jolie brune est toujours à l’aise.

Agoraphobe. Pour se déplacer jusqu’à la suite cadeau de NATHALIE DUBOIS au Carlton – où il a notamment été gratifié d’un séjour à Tahiti à l’hôtel St Regis Bora Bora avec vol sur Air Tahiti –, ADRIAN BRODY a demandé qu’une voiture vienne le chercher au Majestic, où il résidait, ne souhaitant pas parcourir à pieds les quelques centaines de mètres qui les séparait. Motif : l’acteur ne supporte pas les assauts de la foule sur la Croisette. On le comprend.

Et la palme de l’homme le plus courtisé sur la Croisette revient au… Dr. Derek Shepherd. Mais mesdemoiselles, il faudra vous faire une raison, Patrick est marié depuis 1999 à Jillian Fink.

It’s hard to see the stars of this 64th Cannes Film Festival as the evening wanes. They prefer to gather away from photographers on luxury yachts moored in the Bay of Cannes, like BAR REFAELI, SEAN PENN and PATRICK DEMPSEY do. Among the most popular are those of billionaire PAUL ALLEN (co-founder of Microsoft), Diesel brand creator RENZO ROSSO, and Russ ian o l igarch R O M A N ABRAMOVICH.

Banquet. As it does every year, the city of Cannes is holding a giant, 1000-seat aioli feast for the jury members and accredited press. So today, ROBERT DE NIRO and his jurors, including JUDE LAW and UMA THURMAN, will meet at Place de la Castre to sample local

specialties like tapenade, Provencal onion tart and sweet Swiss chard pie. Who will win La Palme of Grand Gourmet?

Relaxation. Boules lovers FABIEN ONTENIENTE and CHRISTOPHER THOMPSON took advantage of their Cannes visit for a game on the Festival sidelines. And for the first time since they’ve been facing off, the Bus Palladium director won. A rematch is already in the works!

Well-being. JE A N-PI E R R E DARROUSSIN, PHILIPPE VANDEL, and DELPHINE CHANÉAC have all come to be pampered at the “spa des stars” at the end of the Croisette in the Radisson Blu 1835 Hotel. They’ve been revelling in hairstyling, manicures, Japanese

baths, steam baths, massages, exfoliating scrubs…in short, 2,700m� of pure pleasure!

Laid-back. At Orange Beach, a barefoot Canal Plus weather girl, CHARLOTTE LE BON, danced long into the night. Whether it’s on the Le Grand Journal set or at a party, the pretty brunette is always at ease.

Agoraphobic. To travel up to N A T H A L I E D U B O I S ’ complementary suite at the Carlton – where, incidentally, he had the pleasure of receiving a stay in Tahiti at the St. Regis Resort Bora Bora with an Air Tahiti flight –ADRIAN BRODY asked for a car to pick him up at the Majestic, where he was staying, as he didn’t want to walk the few hundred meters between establishments. The reason: The actor can’t stand the onslaught of the Croisette crowd. We understand.
