dear friends,

Welcome!

Thanks so much for being a part of our 16th Charleston stage annual dinner and gala. Tonight’s fundraiser, our largest of the year, is critical to Charleston stage’s ongoing operations both for the 100+ performances we produce at the historic dock street Theatre each season but also for more than 15,000 lowcountry young people who are enriched by Charleston stage’s extensive education programs each year.

like everyone, we are all still challenged by this sluggish economy, but for Charleston stage there is good news too. audiences are enthusiastic and ticket sales grew by over 20% last season. We are also happy to report that our education programs continue to see record enrollments.

The difficult cuts we have put in place over the past few seasons have kept us viable but, like most non-profits, we still rely on the generosity of people like you to provide the over three-quarters of a million dollars we must raise each season to meet our $1.5 million dollar budget.

With that in mind, we hope you will be especially generous in tonight’s auctions.

your support over the past 34 years has made Charleston stage one of the city’s premier arts institutions. your support is needed now, more than ever, as Charleston stage continues its ongoing mission to give this great city the great theatre it deserves.

many thanks for your generous support and we look forward to seeing you at future performances at the historic dock street Theatre.

with this Case of 1990 Chateau pichon-longueville Baron, a Bordeaux wine scored at 97 points by robert parker. mr. parker’s 2009 notes indicate that the 1990 is “one of this

estate’s two or three finest wines made in the last 40 years. still inky/blue/purple-tinged to the rim, it reveals an extraordinary bouquet of charcoal, incense, creme de cassis, blue and

black fruits, and a hint of licorice as well as an impressively long finish. While drinkable, its evolution is extremely slow, and I would not be surprised to see it last another two

decades or more.”
