Making of the game cover Kenta. K For the topic of the original game cover, I chose to make an original title, which is ʻThe spirit of the samuraiʼ. There was an option to make an original game title, so I chose to make something else than the one in the examples. The idea of this game cover is that there are several buildings, and there is a figure of the main character of the game in the cover as the same size as the buildings. Making of the game coverKenta. K

! For the topic of the original game cover, I chose to make an original title, which is ʻThe spirit of the samuraiʼ. There was an option to make an original game title, so I chose to make something else than the one in the examples.

! The idea of this game cover is that there are several buildings, and there is a figure of the main character of the game in the cover as the same size as the buildings. And since the game is involved with the old japanese tradition, so I made the character wear some kimono.

! First of all, I chose a template for m game, which is this..

Which is a wii cover from Nintendo™.

And so I got some old japanese buildings, which are something like this. I wanted to make it b/w, so I discarded the color.

And to make the difference of the black and white, I increased the contrast by 300%. (Increased 100% 3 times.)

The image below is the result. I did this to other images of buildings.

Then I started to make the background.

The only thing I did with the background was just make a gradient layer with the appropriate color.

The result ended like this.

I drew my character, since I found it much easier than rendering a photo. So this is how it looked like in the beginning (on left), and the after the coloring after (on right). I decided to write a character because we had an opportunity to.

The clothes are actually japanese clothing patterns from flickr, and I pasted on a layer and made the white parts transparent

to make it into a clothing.

The sword was another sketched object, and I added a gradient layer on the blade.

Rejected Ideas...

The flower on below is known as the blossom

flower which is picked up from an illustration from a Japanese board game, ʻHanafudaʼ. I

thought it was too random for this to be

included in the cover, so I didnʼt include this. In fact, the object was very small and it was a bit pixillated when edited.

And this is the result.. on another paper.

The reason I chose red was because I thought it would related to the japanese theme.

I turned this red piece of paper in to the base of the title and the base of the title and the back cover.

This was also scanned because I thought it was much more simpler than using complicated techniques on photoshop/illustrator.

The reason to make this into a game design is because I thought it was vey creative, and it involved the techniques i knew and also the techniques i donʼt really use a lot. And it was a good challenge making this cover.
