    FAMILIAR FOEThe Coyotes defeated the Blackhawks 4-2 in last seasons WCQF. It marked the first playoff series since 1951 where the first five

    games went into overtime. Mikkel Boedker scored theGWG in overtime in Games 3 and 4 of the series at CHI. Boedker became the

    first player since Joe Sakic in 2004 to score theGWG in overtime in the playoffs in back-to-back games. Mike Smith recorded his first

    career postseason SO in Game 6 at CHI when he turned away 39 shots and guided the Coyotes to the series-clinching win.

    COYOTES REACH 2012 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL

    For the first time in franchise history, the Phoenix Coyotes advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2012 taking on the eventual

    Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings (4-1). The Coyotes defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 in the Western Conference

    Quarterfinals and the Nashville Predators 4-1 in the Western Conference Semifinals to make their deepest playoff run in team history.

    Prior to defeating the Blackhawks in the WCQF, the last series win for the franchise came during the 1987 Stanley Cup Playoffs when

    the team was known as the Winnipeg Jets, defeated the Calgary Flames 4-2. The WCQF win against Chicago also snapped the

    longest gap between playoff series wins (25 years) by a team in NHL history.

    Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith went 9-7-3 with a 1.99 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in 16 starts during the 2012

    Stanley Cup Playoffs. Smiths GAA and SV% both were franchise playoff records while his three shutouts tied for first among all NHL

    goalies in the 2012 playoffs. Smith recorded his first career postseason shutout in the series clinching game of the WCQF (Game 6)

    against Chicago with 39 saves in a 4-0 victory on April 23. He also set a franchise record shutout sequence in the postseason of 164:45

    between Games 3 and 5 against Nashville in the WCSF. Smith allowed just one goal in the final 172 minutes of the series against the

    Predators.

    Goaltender Mike Smith was the Coyotes most valuable player in 2011-12. He set new career highs in games played (67), wins (38),

    GAA (2.21), SV% (.930) and shutouts (8). His eight shutouts ranked tied for third in the NHL and also tied a franchise best for a single

    The Blackhawks netted three goals in the first period en route to a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

    PATRICK KANE (PP) tallied the first goal of the 2012-13 NHL season less than four minutes into the game. MARIAN HOSSA (2),

    MICHAEL FROLIK (GWG) and JONATHANTOEWS also dented the net for the visitors, while Rob Scuderi and Jordan Nolan

    registered goals for the home team.

    COREY CRAWFORD turned aside 19 of the 21 shots he faced, while Jonathan Quick stopped 17 of 22.

    Chicago was 1-for-5 (7 shots, 8:43) with the man advantage. The Kings tallied five shots in 8:36 on the power play, but were held

    scoreless as the Blackhawks went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

    The Blackhawks are now 1-0-0 against Los Angeles this season, with two meetings remaining on Feb. 17 and March 25 at the UnitedCenter.

    The two clubs will also face off on Feb. 7 in Phoenix and April 20 at the United Center.

    The Blackhawks fell 4-2 in the 2012 Western Conference Quarterfinals to the Coyotes, despite outshooting Phoenix 241-159 and

    pacing the league with a postseason average of 40.2 shots per game. The Chicago-Phoenix series opened with five overtime games,

    becoming the second series in NHL history to have five consecutive matchups decided in extra time (1951 Stanley Cup Final, TORdef. MTL 4-1).

    Chicago posted a 1-2-1 record against the Coyotes last season, which included a 1-1-0 record in Phoenix.

    JONATHAN TOEWS (3G, A) and PATRICK SHARP (G, 3A) paced the club with four points each in four regular-season games

    HOSS IS BOSSMARIAN HOSSA led the club with two goals and an opening night career-high three points against the Kings.

    Last season, the Slovakia native opened the campaign with seven points (5G, 2A) in as many games en route to a team-high 77-point

    finish (29G, 48A) for his best point total in a Blackhawks uniform. In 2010-11, HOSSA posted 11 points (7G, 4A) in the first seven

    games of the season.

    HOSSA shared the team lead with 19 multi-point outings in 2011-12, which included a team-high 16 two-point games.

    The 34-year-old forward recorded a +2 plus/minus rating and four shots on goal Saturday. HOSSA ranked third on the team with a +18

    rating and 248 SOG last season.

    KANE IS ABLE

    PATRICK KANE opened the scoring Saturday with a power-play goal and added an assist for a two-point outing.

    Last season, the Blackhawks were 12-0-3 when KANE notched a multi-point game and are 72-8-13 in his career.

    The 24-year-old forward started the 2011-12 season with a four-game point streak (2G, 4A), while he began the 2010-11 campaign

    with six points (2G, 4A) in the first seven tilts.

    Saturdays matchup marked KANES 400th career NHL game. The 2007 first-round draft pick has posted 371 career points (127G,

    244A), all while wearing a Blackhawks sweater.

    THIS IS YOUR CAPTAIN SPEAKING

    JONATHAN TOEWS gave the Blackhawks a 4-0 lead Saturday when he netted an even-strength goal 1:16 into the second period. He

    added an assist on Chicagos closing goal for a multi-point game.

    The Winnipeg native notched 16 multi-point outings last season, including a career-best five-point (2G, 3A) night on Nov. 25 at ANA.

    TOEWS shared the game high with a +3 rating and paced Chicago forwards with 18:47 of ice time. He led club forwards in 2011-12

    with an average TOI of 20:50, while his +17 rating ranked fourth on the team.

    The 24-year-old captain won a game-high 16-of-25 at the dot for a 64.0 faceoff winning percentage. TOEWS led the NHL last season

    with a 59.4 faceoff winning percentage.

    ONE IF BY LAND, TWO IF BY SEABS

    BRENT SEABROOK tallied a secondary assist on HOSSAS first goal of the game Saturday at the STAPLES Center.

    The 27-year-old blueliner led the team with 23:01 of TOI. SEABROOK ranked second on the club with a career-best average TOI of

    24:43 in 2011-12.

    SEABROOK posted two hits and a game-high seven blocked shots against the Kings. He was one of four defensemen to register at

    least 190 hits and 150 blocked shots last season after recording a team-high 198 hits and 165 blocked shots.

    The British Columbia native notched a +1 rating against Los Angeles. He paced team defensemen and ranked second overall with a

    +21 rating last season.

    HOW SWEDE THE SOUND

    MARCUS KRUGER registered a primary assist on Saturdays game-winning goal. The 22-year-old center posted 26 points (9G, 17A)

    in 71 regular-season games last year in his first full NHL campaign.

    KRUGER recorded a +1 rating against the Kings and shared the lead among club forwards with 4:28 of shorthanded TOI. TheStockholm, Sweden, native shared eighth among league rookies last season with a +11 rating.

    JOHNNY ODUYA posted a +2 rating, two blocked shots and ranked third on the team with 21:26 of TOI in Los Angeles. The 31-year-

    old blueliner notched five points (G, 4A) in 18 regular-season games with the Blackhawks last year after joining the team on Feb. 27,
