MELEE ATTACKSUnderstanding Raiden's Move-Set is important to mastering him as a weapon. The first thing you'll notice after playing any time at all is that thereare essentially three ways to damage an enemy with your HF Katana: BladeMode, Wide Attacks and Strong Attacks.

BLADE MODE/ZANDATSUWhile in Blade Mode, use the Right Stick to adjust the angle, and the LeftStick to change direction. Release the Right Stick to swing your sword in thecurrent direction. You can perform rapid vertical strikes with Y (Xbox360) orTriangle (PS3) and rapid horizontal strikes with X (Xbox 360) or Square (PS3).

If you've already weakened an enemy (or in some cases, when you for examblecatch an enemy off guard) you'll notice a red square on the enemy after youenter Blade Mode. Manually cut through that square and you can press B (Xbox360)or Circle (PS3) to rip your foe's fuel cells from their body and fully replenishyour own. This is called a 'Zandatsu' strike. You'll hear a blip and notice thesquare getting four - marks on each side when you've aligned your bladecorrectly.

    . . . . | XBOX 360 |PLAYSTATION 3|BLADE MODE ACTION| |======================|=============|=================| | Left Analog | Left Analog | Move Camera | | Right Analog |Right Analog | Manual Cut | |Press/Hold Left Analog| L3 | Strafe/Move | | Y | Triangle | Vertical Cut | | X | Square | Horizontal Cut | | B | Circle | Zandatsu | ' ' ' '

When you enter Blade Mode at any random moment, time will slow down by 50%,

giving you a slight edge over your enemies (who can still, however, attack you).Entering Blade Mode when you've weakened your opponent slows time down to 10%,which means all enemies move with only 1/10th of your own speed. This greatlyenhances your possibilities and especially increases the chance for getting aZandatsu trike. Not only weakening your opponent makes this extreme slow motioneffect possible. Other instances are: Killing your target (with a sneak attack,or regularly), the usage of specific attacks, breaking your foe's armor, orunder special circumstances, such as boss fights.

You'll notice that when you do one of the above (usually weakening enemies), ashort flash and the slowing of time for an instant means you can enter BladeMode efficiently (with the 10% slow-mo effect).

It should be noted that (heavily) armored enemies cannot just be sliced at anygiven moment (regular cyborgs can's be dismembered at any given moment, but youcan always perform a Zandatsu on them, although it's a little more difficult todo this without the slowmotion effect). The armored enemies will always have tobe (severely) weakened first. Alternatively you can try to sneak behind theseenemies for an instant Zandatsu strike.

The gory animation makes quite a lot of sound, and you might worry that enemiesmay 'hear' you wasting their cyborg friends. That worry ends here. Enemies canonly see what's in their short-sighted vision, and sound (such as behind a very

    6/91

closeby corner) simply won't alert them - ever. Do be careful they don't spotyou slicing up their brother in law. While you might like to see that happen inreal life, they'll always have your mind set on exterminating you.

It's also good to know that during the fuel cell extraction animation, Raidenis completely invulnerable from any attacks.

TIP: You don't have to manually slice through the Zandatsu square, as the above controls show. An alternative method that you may find useful is to align the camera horizontally while performing vertical slashes with Y/Triangle. Most of the time, this works quite well.

FUEL CELLS/FCBlade Mode requires fuel, and Raiden's FC bar (which stands for Fuel Cells) isan indication of how long you can use it. A blue bar indicates you're good togo with Blade Mode; if it turns yellow you'll use the slow motion effect. A fullbar will spark with electricity, and later on, when you unlock 'Jack the Ripper'mode, the bar will turn red when full.

There are four ways to refill Raiden's FC gauge:

    1. Repair Units dropped by enemies restore some FC.

    2. Repair Nanopaste items drop quite a lot of FC.3. A successful Zandatsu strike fully replenishes the FC bar.4. Dealing regular damage to foes slowly regenerates FC.

PARRYING/BLOCKINGParrying is key to mastering MGR, and you will most likely not be able tocomplete the game on higher difficulties without it. On Easy, parrying is doneautomatically for you, but on any other difficulty you'll have to do ityourself.

Incoming attacks can come from all directions (360 degrees) and are indicated

by little red flashes. You'll need to press the left analog stick simultaneouslywith X (Xbox360) or Square (PS3) to parry, and the left analog stick must bepushed in the direction the attack is coming from. Most importantly, the leftanalog stick can NOT be held during this time (or you'd block perhaps one attackat most). You must release the left analog stick to it's initial position andpress it again in the same or other direction to parry other attacks.

If you time all of this precisely before the enemy hit you, a parry can beperformed on the slightly stunned enemy. Otherwise, Raiden will simply blockthe enemy attack, which usually works fine as well. The parry counter onlystarts becoming necessary on the 'Very Hard' and 'Revengeance' difficulties, but it's wise to start practicing it early on.

DODGING ATTACKSNot all attacks can be parried or blocked. Any attack where the enemy flashesyellow for a brief moment are such attacks, and you'll want to avoid them byrunning around with Ninja Run or by pressing X+A (Xbox 360) or Square+X (PS3)along with the left analog stick.

After a cutscene, the game opens with you - Raiden - being attacked by severalPMC soldiers. If you've read the control basics, you should know by now thatparrying plays a very important role in MGR. To parry, all you need to do ispress the left analog stick in the direction the attack is coming from (asindicated by little red dots and flashes on the screen), plus the X button (onXbox 360) or the Square button (on Playstation 3). It's important to realisethat the left stick can NOT be HOLD in order to parry (multiple) attacks. Youmust always release the left stick and press it again (simultaneously with the

'light attack button') to parry attacks.Waste the PMC soldiers and practice your parry skills while you're at it, usingmainly light attacks. Quickly head around the corner and make your way to thegrate gate, then cut it open and continue.

_____________________________ | BOSS BATTLE: METAL GEAR RAY |

The fight against Metal Gear Ray can be overwhelming to new players, but some practice makes perfect. Below you can find Ray's attacks, along with tips on how to effectively dodge them.

NOTE: If you cut off Metal Gear Ray's tail you unlock the 'Steel Tail' trophy/achievement. Stand in front of Ray, parry its tail attack and slice off the tail in Blade Mode.

During the battle it is imperative to stay close to Ray's legs while carving them with your sword. He'll try to cover some distance by jumping to the far side of the street, so you'll need to run towards him ASAP (dodging his attacks - see below).

After some practice you'll find that the fight is fairly straightforward. You must cut the armor from Ray's legs (twice for each leg), after which Raiden automatically enters Blade Mode. You can then carve up the leg's armor (the first time you weaken each particular leg), or destroy one of Ray's turrets

(the second time you severely weaken one of its legs). After doing this twice on both legs, Metal Gear Ray will perform an arm smash attack that triggers a Quick Time Event (QTE) that goes as follows:

    Xbox 360: Y+B, X (tap), Y (tap), X (tap). PS3: Triangle+Circle, Square (tap), Triangle (tap), Square (tap).

As for Metal Gear Ray's attacks:

ROCKET LAUNCH: Ray launches several rockets into a moderately large area right

    8/91

in front of him. You can see where they'll land by carefully looking for red circles appearing on the ground. Stay away from those circles to avoid this attack altogether. The rockets will stick in the ground for a few seconds before blowing up. It's possible to cut them open and destroying them, but ignoring them completely while keeping your distance works as well. De

TAIL SWIPE: A long range attack, Metal Gear Ray turns around and sweeps his tail across the area. You'll have to jump over its tail in order to prevent getting hit, since the tail covers the entire area. Alternatively you can parry the tail attack, which allows you to enter Blade Mode (and cutting off Ray's tail, which grants a trophy/achievement).

GUNFIRE: While not particularly damaging, getting hit by the gunfire can be troublesome if you're aiming for a no-damage playthrough. Use the Ninja Run while horizontally moving towards the other side of the screen for the best chance to avoid this attack.

PLASMA BEAM: Another long range attack, the plasma beam is usually accompanied by gunfire. It's not too difficult to attack the large beam by running horizontally to the other side of the screen (or diagonally towards Ray's position to close in on him) with Ninja Run. Ray will also perform a second, horizontal beam attack (instead of vertical, like the first), which it typically uses after the first beam attack. Hiding underneath Ray is a safe

option if you're already close. If you're still far away, jumping over this beam is likely your only option, but this is quite dangerous, so try to avoid getting yourself into this situation.

CHARGE RAM: Ray performs this attack when you're standing at a distance; it roars beforehand, then tries to ram you by running towards you and attempting to slam its face into Raiden's body. Use Ninja Run to move along the side of Ray to avoid this attack. This is usually an excellent opportunity to attack Ray's legs (or tail). If you manage to parry this attack, you'll get a chance to enter Blade Mode and destroy Ray's armored head shell. Parrying the attack after this will grant more opportunities to destroy Ray's turrets.

FACE SMASH: An attack used at close range, initiated when you're standing in

front of Ray. He'll perform this move three times in a row, trying to smash its face into Raiden. It's best avoided by circling around Ray with Ninja Run, also allowing you to close in on its legs and carve your way through them. If you manage to parry this attack, you'll get a chance to enter Blade Mode and destroy Ray's armored head shell. Parrying the attack after this will grant more opportunities to destroy Ray's turrets.

ARM SWIPES: When you're standing right in front of Ray, he'll sometimes perform his vertical arm swipe twice. This is tricky to jump over, so you will want to avoid standing in front of it for too long. Staying close to its legs is much safer. Parrying this attack is also a possibility.

FOOT STOMP: When you're carving off Ray's callus from its legs, naturally he

gets aggravated and try to crush you with said foot. A dotted red line indicates where he'll hit the ground, although he moves along as you run away; only a quick Ninja Run circling around Ray will surely escape from getting hit by this attack. Parrying a foot stomp attack gives you a chance to cut away the leg's armor (or turret, if the armor has already been destroyed).

    ______________________________________ | BOSS BATTLE: METAL GEAR RAY - PART 2 |

This battle takes place in a much smaller area than the previous fight, giving a big twist to most of Ray's attacks, although he employs some new moves too.

Study his attacks (see below) and keep damaging its head. After a short while, Raiden will enter blade mode, allowing you to cut off its head's armor. Keep damaging its head (which is possible even when it's not stuck, although you are somewhat more vulnerable to - and less able to anticipate - Ray's attacks. After destroying its turret during the second blade mode, inflicing a little more damage to Ray will trigger a QTE that goes like this:

Xbox 360: Left Stick Up + RT (hold both), Blade Mode. Then you'll need to stay on the right side of the tower as you run down, moving to the left side immediately after running over the pillar. After this: X (tap).

PS3: Left Stick Up + R2 (hold both), Blade Mode. Then you'll need to stay

on the right side of the tower as you run down, moving to the left side immediately after running over the pillar. After this: Square (tap).

These are Metal Gear Ray's attacks:

RAY BEAM: Always performed at the start of battle, this horizontal beam attack is used twice (first coming from the right, then from the left). To dodge it, don't stand too close to Ray and jump over the beam.

  • 8/12/2019 GameFAQs Metal Gear Rising Revengeance (PS3) FAQ_Walkthrough by Absolute Steve.txt

    10/91

FACE SMASH: Ray always uses this attack directly after his first beam attack. He'll tilt its head slightly backwards and smashes it in your direction. As soon as you see him preparing this, move away from its head into the direction where the most space is available. Since its face will get stuck for several seconds, now is an excellent time to deal some damage to your foe.

BOMB DROP: Ray hovers its arm above the left side of the area, dropping various bombs out of it. Enter blade mode and slice them all up to prevent getting hit. You might be able to slice a bit faster with Y+X (Xbox 360) or Square+Triangle (PS3) compared to using the right analog stick for cutting; precision isn't really required here anyway. Beware - the bombs will drop twice.

FACE/BODY SMASH: Similar to its face smash, Ray will leap back and slam its head into the right side of the building; that means the left

side of the area is safe. With its head stuck, now is once again an excellent time to deal some damage to Ray.

ARM SMASH: Ray smashes its arm vertically into the ground. Quickly moving left or right should allow you to dodge this attack.

ROCKET LAUNCH: Ray leaps back and launchers several rockets in your direction; once again, the red circles indicate their landing positions. This time - while possible to ignore them - it's wiser to cut them loose and

destroy them, since the field is much smaller and you get Repair Nanopaste out of them as well. Running around the roof with Ninja Run while performing weak slashes is an excellent way to achieve this.

TURRET FIRE: Not very damaging, but annoying when doing a no-damage run, the turret will occassionally at you. Ninja running around the area deflects or dodges the shots easily.

THE BEACHAfter the cutscenes, feel free to slice up almost everything in the area, ifonly for fun. There's a white cat on the beach that you can't hit, but it's funto try nonetheless. When you decide playtime is over, use Ninja Run to climbthe wall's platforms to the right side (which are close to the rusty stairs, which you can also take if you haven't cut them to pieces yet).

RANKED BATTLE #1Three cyborgs "ambush" you, giving you an excellent opportunity to test outBlade Mode's Zandatsu. Once you've staggered an enemy (as indicated by a slow-moeffect accompanied by a flash at their body), enter Blade Mode when nearby yourfoe. You'll see a red square; hit it with one of your swipes and press B (Xbox)or Square (PS3) to rip the fuel cells out of your enemy, restoring your health,FC, and giving you bonus points on battle rankings.

Stand nearby the cyborg (while still on the upperwalkway) to activate the option to press B/Square. This is a special 'ninja'move that instantly kills your foes and allows you to enter Blade Mode for aZandatsu finisher.

    MAIN THOROUGHFARE - PART 3

  • 8/12/2019 GameFAQs Metal Gear Rising Revengeance (PS3) FAQ_Walkthrough by Absolute Steve.txt

    14/91

There are several items you can find before proceeding to the next part of thethoroughfare:

    - There's a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] on the first viaduct.- In a corner on the right side of the area is an item box with [300 BP].- Nearby the church on the left side of the area there's a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] in a box to the right side.

, .. : DATA STORAGE #4 ; .|!| ` |!||!| Look for this box to the left of the church doors; it contains the data |!||!| storage item. You will need to use Blade Mode to cut the blue lock. |!|`

As for the enemies up ahead, start by taking out the cyborg to the left side ofthe area - he's just beyond some boxes that have another [ROCKET LAUNCHER]lying next to them. Only approach this cyborg when the gekko is walking overthe viaduct to the other side. After killing him in stealth-fashion, backtrackto the other side of the street (climb the walkway) and wait for the first gekkoto jump down the thoroughfare. Quickly Ninja Run to the first cyborg (oralternatively the second one, but hug the wall while doing so) and waste him.If this triggers caution, quickly backtrack again until it goes away.

The remaining cyborg can be killed when the gekko has once again jumped on thethoroughfare (wait for it to make another round). This leaves only the twogekkos. The first one can easily be killed by following it over the viaduct anddispatching it from behind in the left corner. The second gekko in the mainthoroughfare can now easily be destroyed. Be sure to collect the [REPAIRNANOPASTE] in the upper right corner of the street before heading through thedoor on the upper left side.

Simply head upstairs and go through the hall to trigger a cutscene.

    ____________________________________________________ | BOSS BATTLE: BLADE WOLF (LQ-84i) - RANKED BATTLE #3|

The fight with Blade Wolf can justly be interpreted as a tutorial on how tomaster parrying. Its attacks are plenty and you'll need to parry them bytapping the left analog stick (plus X [Xbox 360] or Square [PS3]) in the rightdirection (while not holding it down).

Blade Wolf will summon three cyborgs after you damage it enough, and one gekkoafter that. The battle can be finished after these replenishing supplies havebeen dealt with. There are a few minor BP items on the battlefield (smash thesmall crates in the center of the area), as well as a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] nearthe door, but nothing too noteworthy.

BLADE THROW: Blade Wolf's Blade Throw is his most basic attack. Just as you saw in the cutscene, he uses his tail to throw three knives at you. If you are standing still they will aim for center mass, but if you are running they will spread out. A simple parry will protect you in either case.

  • 8/12/2019 GameFAQs Metal Gear Rising Revengeance (PS3) FAQ_Walkthrough by Absolute Steve.txt

    15/91

CLAW SWIPE: The Claw Swipe attack is only used when you're fairly close to Blade Wolf. He will rear back a bit and then leap forward, using his right claw to attack. The swipe is rather large, but a well-timed parry will open Blade Wolf up to a counterattack.

BODY CHARGE: A vicious attack! Blade Wolf will throw himself at you at a high velocity! He can do this several times in a row if he wishes (and you dodge). He can also leap off of the side of a wall to add even more velocity to this attack. A parry will keep you safe here, but a perfect-parry will drop Blade Wolf right in front of you instead of knocking him far away, so aim for perfection so you can hurt him even further.

CHAINSAW COMBO: This is an interesting attack. You know it is coming when Blade Wolf uses his tail to grab the chainsaw, which he only does when you are somewhat close to him. He will then start to swing it around and hit you with it. He will often only use either a horizontal swipe or a leaping vertical slam, which consist of one hit each (and one parry), but he can also chain together a three-hit attack (horizontal swipe, vertical slam, horizontal swipe), so be ready to parry multiple times and counter afterward.

RAMPAGE: Another vicious attack. Blade Wolf will charge up and pounce around the battle area. He pounces around five times in total before he is done, and if you are caught unaware during this attack he will

pounce on TOP of you and impale you with his chainsaw. Thankfully this attack is easy to parry, as Blade Wolf has a habit of trying to actually pounce on you during his FOURTH pounce. Alternately, you may find it rather easy to jump away from Blade Wolf when he pounces towards you and then, while in the air, use a Strong Attack while aiming at him to swoop down and start your own chain of attack.

There are two guards with riot shields up ahead, so move in for the kill.Attack them from behind in the hope of destroying their shield as well. Beforeheading over the bridge, collect a [ROCKET LAUNCHER near the armored vehicle, a[GRENADE] on some crates on the opposite side of the street, and [100 BP] fromthe red box to the right of the bridge.

Head over the bridge in a dramatic fashion, holding the left stick down whiledoing a Ninja Run. When Raiden falls, tap Y (Xbox 360) or Triangle (PS3), thencontinue your Ninja Run immediately.

You'll have to fight off one of the choppers, which isn't as hard as it looks. You can find [HOMING MISSILES x3] lying around the area, although you don'tnecessarily have to use them. Climbing the ruins makes it possible to directlyslash away at the chopper. Doing this two to three times will make it launcha series of rockets. At this time, press the left analog stick + RT or R2 in

Head underneath the viaduct and open the box to your left; inside is a handy[EM GRENADE], which stuns (groups of) enemies for a brief moment.

Hug the right buildings of the street as you continue, then head upstairs. Asyou've undoubtedly noticed, a civilian is being held hostage and is about to bekilled by the group of cyborgs, which includes two flying ones. Activate AR modeto find out where the cyborgs on the ground are located and drop the EM Grenadetowards them. Jump at one of the flying cyborgs and do battle with them. Stay

There are a few items in this area you can now collect:

    - [REPAIR NANOPASTE] can be found behind some large crates to the right side of the main street.

    - [100 BP] from the box on the roof you were on just now.

When you've collected all those goodies, head towards the main gate and collecta [ROCKET LAUNCHER] next the control panel. You'll have to go back and snatchan officer's hand to proceed, so do exactly that.

As you backtrack slightly, hug the left side of the street. Soon enough anarmored vehicle stops in the middle of the street, spawning three cyborgs.Head up the nearby stairs (to your left) and take out the first guard with astealthy ninja move from above. The second guard in the middle of the streetcan now easily be taken out. The third guard moves onto the roof you firstaccessed (to rescue the civilian), so head up those stairs, sneak behind himand take 'em out. It helps to activate AR mode before doing this, because ifhe's already halfway up the stairs, it's better to wait for him to move to theroof; better safe than sorry.

The commanding officer is located behind the armored vehicle. Cut off his lefthand while in blade mode (after first stealthily stabbing him) to get what youneeded. From now on, cyborg officers with a left hand that is of interest willhave a blip indicating they're carriers of precious data.

You can now search the place for the following remaining items:

    - A dose of [REPAIR NANOPASTE] can be found in a box inside the destroyed building on the left.

    - You can climb the building to the left of this destroyed building (use Ninja Run). The box here contains [5000 BP]. Use Blade Mode to open it.

    - There's a [HOMING MISSILE] next to a pillar of the somewhat intact building to the right.

In any case, use your AR to spot three cyborgs in this building. One of themwill move out on the right side every now and then, which is an excellent timeto - very quickly - approach him from behind and cut off his [LEFT HAND ID].

The guard inside the building is best downed by approaching him from the leftside (carve up the fence first). Enter the room and you'll face several Dwarf Gekkos, who can jump at and grappleyou - needless to say that's annoying, but not very dangerous in terms ofdamage. Don't worry too much about getting an S-Rank here for the time being;this is one of those battles that becomes significantly easier once you'veunlocked a new weapon (the Pole Arm "L'etranger").

You can find [300 BP] inside the box on top of the containers in the corner.Cut through the ventilators located above the containers in the other cornerto proceed. From here on you'll spot several surveillance turrets, and there'san achievement attached to destroying them all.

    IR SENSORS AND TURRETS EVERYWHERE

There are two turrets in this room, the first one attached to the pillar in thecenter, the second on top of the stairs. Take them out (avoid being seen bytheir laser sight) and move over the containers to find a box with a [JAMGRENADE] inside (this is equivalent to what used to be Chaff Grenades in the MGSseries; why they changed the name is beyond me).

The next room is protected by IR sensors, so activate your AR to spot them.Dash underneath the first one (Ninja Run + Y [Xbox 360] or Triangle [PS3]); thesecond one can be jumped over. Destroy the camera, but wait! There's a thirdIR sensor system blocking the stairs. Throwing the Jam Grenade you just foundwill solve this problem. Move through the laser beams (Dwarf Gekkos will attackyou, so deal with them in this hall, but make sure the camera up ahead doesn't

spot you, since you haven't triggered the alarm yet).

Destroy the camera above the doorway, then enter a gigantic area protected byseveral guards, various turrets and IR sensors. The first thing you should dois destroy the turret on the large concrete pillar to your right, but be verycareful not to trigger any IR sensors (use AR to figure out where they are alllocated). Do the same with the turret diagonally across the first one, andagain, be careful around the IR sensors. Before you go upstairs, collect the[HOMING MISSILE] in the lower right corner.

In fact, you'll want to be careful with approaching the stairs to begin with. There's a turret whose vision extends all the way down the stairs, so carefullywatch its laser beam move and rush towards the stairs when it's safe to do so.From here, carefully watch whether the turret is moving away from the stairs;if so, rush up, destroy it, and preferably rush back down again so you cancomfortly monitor how the three guards patrol. There's a [JAM GRENADE] insidethe box to the right from here (still on the lower floor), should you need it.

When you've got an idea how the three guards move around, head to the top ofthe stairs (but make sure the nearby guard on the walkway in the middle of thearea cannot see you; have a pillar between you and him at all times to be safe). As the second guard (on the walkway to the far upper right side) moves awayfrom the third guard (who circles around the walkway to the left, carefullymonitor that third cyborg. As soon as he turns his back on you, quickly rushtowards him for a stealth kill (assuming the first guard is also moving awayfrom you).

From here you can hide until the moment arrives that both the first guard (onthe middle walkway) and the second guard (on the left walkway) turn their backon you; first dispatch the second guard. After this, the first guard poses noreal difficulty. This is good, as the first guard has a [LEFT HAND ID] thatyou will want to cut off for sure. With all the guards dispatched, feel freeto destroy the remaining two camera's (you'll have to jump over the walkway toreach them), unlocking the achievement/trophy 'No Flash Photography!'. Don't

miss the [JAM GRENADE] in the corner of the room (on the upper walkway) beforeyou continue.

, .. : DATA STORAGE #6 ; .|!| ` |!||!| In the large area with various IR Sensors and turrets, move to the far |!||!| end of the upper walkway to find this data storage in the darkness. |!|`

Lastly, cut away the ventilators nearby the walkway where the second guard waspatrolling to reach a platform with a box containing [ENDURANCE +1]. Finallyunlock the door and head downstairs.

    _________________________________________ | BOSS BATTLE: MISTRAL - RANKED BATTLE #10|

The battle with Mistral isn't terribly complex, but matters are made more difficult by the nearly constant presence of four dwarf gekkos, who all need your love, all at once. That's not an option, so thin out some of the crowd to focus the majority of your love on Mistral. It should be noted that if you kill off ALL of them, they will come back in full force, so keeping at least one dwarf gekko alive is to your benefit. Many of Mistral her attacks can be

    25/91

parried, although there are some exceptions:

POLE SPIKE: Mistral extends her pole, spiking you for some damage. This can be parried/blocked.

SPINNING WHEEL: Mistral tries to run you over by performing extremely fast saltos, effectively turning her into a sharp wheel. You'll want to block this attack several times (from multiple directions).

SIMPLE SLASH: Like most enemies, Mistral has a few basic slashes; one is a horizontal round swing, the other is a vertical slam slash.

BRUTAL WHIP: This attack cannot be parried/blocked, and Mistral will flash yellow when she attempts it, so immediately dodge and get out of the way. Should it hit you, quickly wiggle the left analog stick to the left and right, or otherwise it'll inflict quite some damage.

FIREBALL GEKKOS: Mistral jumps on top of a pipe and hurls several fireball gekkos at you. Naturally, you'll want to avoid those by running around the area using Ninja Run.

Every now and then, Blade Mode becomes possible, allowing you to chop Mistral's pole in pieces (as well as some of her arms). After lowering Mistral's health

down to 75% or lower she'll perform an attack that triggers a short QTE (enter blade mode and cut her pole), which leads to the second phase of the battle that takes place on a pipe. Mistral now gains access to two new attacks she will use (besides regular slashes):

WHIP SLASH: Similar to her regular slashes; can be parried.

WHIPLASH FROM ABOVE: Mistral hurls her pole around her several times, then leaps into the air and strikes down on you. Try to block this attack.

After getting Mistral down to 50% or less health, a cutscene initiates the

third and final stage of the battle, taking place on the ground. She gains access to a new move, but loses her 'whiplash from above' move as well as her 'fireball gekko' move. Five dwarf gekkos will be begging for your attention during this part of the battle.

UNDERGROUND WHIP: This long range attack is aimed in a straight line towards you, making it fairly easy to anticipate.

Get Mistral down to 10% of her health and a short QTE triggers, in which you will have to press Y+B (Xbox 360) or Triangle+Square (PS3), followed by Blade Mode, effectively ending the battle and chapter.

Cut your way through the doors and you'll reach a heavily guarded area (threeMastiffs patrol it). While it's possible to sneak to the far left side of thehall, there's a more efficient and rewarding way to go about things.

Wait right before the lower doorway and activate your AR. There's a Mastiff

walking in the lower part of the sewers, a second one walking on the uppercatwalk, and a third one patrolling the upper catwalks on the far left side.

You'll want to destroy the second Mastiff first (the one walking on the nearbyupper catwalks. To perfectly time your stealth kill, wait for the first Mastiffto walk underneath the bridge (coming from the right, moving left); the instantthe second Mastiff on the catwalk turns his back on you, rush towards him tostealthily kill him.

NOTE: If you want to collect the data storage in this area, it's important you slice up the second Mastiff on the catwalk (the one you kill first) horizontally, otherwise you risk destroying part of the catwalk that leads to the data storage (see below).

Immediately after this you can either perform a ninja move from above on thefirst Mastiff down below, or approach him from the back. The third Mastiff canbe killed by keeping your distance and ninja running up the right catwalk, approaching him from the back as well. After defeating these three foes, a newbattle becomes fightable.

Return to youroriginal position and wait until you can take out the guard closest to you(whenever the other has just passed him with his back towards you). It should be noted that one of thesecyborgs has a [LEFT HAND ID], meaning you will want to be extra careful andbe sure to slice his left hand off. It's rather easy to do a quick AR scan andsee which cyborg has the data chip, then plan your attack based on that.

You can find an [ELECTROLYTE PACK] in a box at the end of the hall that is nowaccessible. You'll need to activate one of the dwarf gekkos in the rack toaccess the next area.

DWARF GEKKO FUN (RANKED 'BATTLE' #7)There two trophies/achievements to be gotten here. The first one involvesknocking all five cyborg guards in this area unconscious. The second requiresyou to interact with all dwarf gekkos in this area. We'll start with the firstone.

The first cyborg guard is located directly in front of you. If you're quick you

can disable him immediately; otherwise wait for him to return and turn his backon you again. After this, look for a small shaft on the left side of the area, but wait with going through (with LT/L2); there are more guards on the otherside.

, .. : DATA STORAGE #8 ; .|!| ` |!||!| During the time you're controlling the dwarf gekko, look for a small |!||!| shaft to the left of your starting position and use LT or L2 to move |!||!| through. This data storage item is inside the shaft. |!|`

Before exiting the shaft, carefully monitor your map and pay attention to thered blips. If you were quick to disable the first guard, the second guard herewill just about pass the shaft you're hiding in. But be careful; there's athird guard up the catwalk just ahead. Wait for him to move away (watch theblip), then immediately roll out of the shaft, turn left and disable the guard.

Now, quickly hop onto the crates granting access to the catwalk and disable thethird cyborg. Fortunately, the fourth guard should now have his back turned onyou as well, allowing for another swift takedown. Head back up the catwalk youwere on just now (via the stairs) and move to the far other side (carefullyhiding behind the yellow bars to avoid being seen) to take out the fifth andlast guard at the end of the catwalk. Your reward is the 'Dwarf Raiden' trophy/achievement.

, .. : DATA STORAGE #9 ; .|!| ` |!||!| During the time you're controlling the dwarf gekko, jump on top of the |!||!| crates in the upper right corner of the area, stacked underneath the |!||!| yellow catwalk. The data storage can be found here. |!|`

SOCIALIZING WITH OTHER DWARF GEKKOSSince you have some time to spare, feel free to locate and socialize with theother dwarf gekkos in the area. Their locations are as follows, and you caninteract with them by pressing Y or Triangle:

    1. The first one is easily found; it's located on some crates to the right of your initial starting position.

    2. The second dwarf gekko is the hardest to reach. From your starting position, jump on top of the crate in the middle of the hall, and from here, jump on the middle bar. Turn around and walk to the other side of the bar, carefully hopping on the thin bar that stretches to the walls. Hop onto the machines and from there, leap to the yellow crane device. From here, make your way to the top yellow bar to find and interact with the second dwarf gekko.

    3. The third one is hidden in the dark corner at the upper right of the first hall (or southeast corner from map perspective).

    4. The fourth dwarf gekko is on top of the pipes just around the corner. Hop on the crates to your left as you curve around the corner to reach it.

    5. The fifth and last dwarf gekko can be found on some boxes in the corner of the other hall (or northwest corner from map perspective).

Doing all this nets you the 'Love at First Sight' trophy/achievement.

Hop through the vent duct nearby where the fifth cyborg was patrolling (on thecatwalk) and press the button inside this room to open the door for Raiden.

    ________________________________________________________________________________

You will need to kill the dwarf gekkos here now and you can also Zandatsu theunconscious guards if you wish. Of particular note is the catwalk guard, whohas a [LEFT HAND ID] on him. Also, be sure to check the end of the catwalk fora Blade Mode box that contains an [ENDURANCE +1] item. Very nice. Enter throughthe door to the north to proceed.

In this hall, go around the corner and hop on top of one of the cabinets to finda [REPAIR NANOPASTE]. There's an [EM GRENADE] lying next to another. Enter thenext area and prepare for a boss battle.

Before you proceed up to the GRAD, first check out the left side of the area tofind a box with [5000 BP] inside. From here, quickly rush to the opposite sideof the area and hide behind the wall. You can move from wall to wall, closing inon the GRAD until you are close enough to hit him. Keep parrying his push attackand the real boss battle will commence after pushing him back far enough.

    ______________________________________ | BOSS BATTLE: GRAD - RANKED BATTLE #8 |

GRAD is quick on its feet, so you'll want to hide behind the large canisters every once in a while, especially if it locks on to you. A flurry of attacks and parries against him will occassionally stun him; continue to damage him and Raiden will enter Blade Mode, allowing you to cut off some panels. Once GRAD is down to 10% of its HP it will be stunned for a longer period of time, allowing you to further damage it and enter Blade Mode (twice) to finish it off for good.

SLIDE SMASH: The GRAD will quickly slide towards you and attempt to smash you with its panels. This can cause a BMI error, so try to parry,

    block or evade this attack.

ARM SMASH: This is a regular smash attack that can be parried or blocked.

LOCK ON: GRAD will lock on Raiden and fire its turret, while also launching homing missiles. Either avoid the lock-on or block against the missiles, which can cause a BMI error.

PANEL SMASH: GRAD smashes his large panel into Raiden; attempt to block this.

Go through the door and collect the [RP GRENADE]. It just so happens that twocyborg dudes with rocket launchers are waiting around the corner (they have beenwaiting there for their entire lives, truly). Throw the RP grenade just aroundthe corner, wait for it to burst, then rush in for the kill. Note that one ofthem has a [LEFT HAND ID], so be sure to cut it off. You're up against twelve cyborgs, the last two will drop from the barricadesbehind you as you smash up the rest; beware of them as they have rocketlaunchers. As you start the fight, quickly do an AR scan and note that oneof the police officers has a [LEFT HAND ID] that you can obtain.
