New kind of waveform/understudied, underestimated/
Two objects with sufficiently large masses that randomly approach (not bounded system) sufficiently closely produce gravitational radiation that is detectable! (in the proper frequency range these orbits are nearly parabolic)
• Only a few papers have studied this subject in the last years:– Detection Rate Estimates of GWs Emitted During Parabolic Encounters of Stellar BHs in Globular Clusters (astro-ph/0603441)– GWs from scattering of stellar-mass BHs in galactic nuclei (astro-ph/0807.2638)– Event Rate for Extreme Mass Ratio Burst Signals in the LISA Band (astro-ph/0602445)
• The scientific collaborations do not deal with this kind of sources!
Advantages
• Large amplitude – detectable from large distances!• The waveform is known analytically for a large portion of the parameter space – broadband signal! Therefore: we get contributions from wide range & matched filtering signal detection is possible! (which is the best)• The physics of the process is well understood in spite of that this is a short intense pulse: burst. All other bursts (supernova core collapses, gamma ray bursts, collapses, collidings) are all have unknown waveforms!
It is very important to review all the possible GW sources!
Known analytical waveforms• arbitrary mass, arbitrary velocity, small deviation angle
(so called, gravitational bremsstrahlung, Kovács & Thorne, 1978)• arbitrary orbit, small velocity, newtonian aproximation (Turner, 1977)• arbitrary orbit, small velocity, post-newtonian aproximation (Blanchet & Schäfer, 1989)• post-newtonian: O(v6) (Blanchet et al. 2005) • extreme mass ratio, large velocity, Schwartzschild background, frontal collision (D’Eath & Payne, 1992)• and see the presentation before … (the hungarian PN group: Mikóczi, Vasúth, Gergely, Majár)

Crude estimate on the event rates
→ parameters of the system:
• number of compact objects: N• average mass of compact objects: M• linear size of the system: R• average velocity from virial theorem: v ~ N½ M½ R-½
→ using only average quantities and assuming a homogenous spheroid distribution and newtonian dynamics:
event rate: ~ N2 M4/3 R-3 v-1 (note: gravitational focusing ~ v-1)
→ Therefore we need dense systems with many compact and massy objects:
• globular clusters• galactic nuclei
Better estimate on the event rates
• In reality bigger masses are confined within a smaller radius
• Larger mass objects have a smaller velocity• Gravitational focusing• Detectable volume
Rm–3 ~ m3/2
v∞–1 ~ m1/2
σfoc ~ m4/3
V ~ A3 ~ m5
Detection Rate ~ m8.33

mass segregation
More improved and very detailed analysis• Mass distribution
– Neutron stars• Thin Gaussian distribution
– Black holes• Different kind of models
• Mass segregation
• Mass dependent virial velocity
• Relative velocities
• General relativistic correction for dynamics and waveform• General relativity for cosmology
– Cosmological volume element– Redshifting of GW frequency and single GC event rate

vm = (m/<m >)–1/2 vvir
Simulations show that small BHs are ejected from the system!
vrel ≡ v12 = [(m1–1 + m2
–1) <m>]1/2 vvir
• we have to double-integrate the event rate over the distribution of colliding masses• take into accont that collision can take place only in the inner region according to the higher mass• integrate over the distribution of GC-s in the galaxy, and galaxy distribution in the Universe• integrating over frequency, using spectrum of the vaweform and the detector sensivity curve

Why we need the spectrum?
(Maximum luminosity distance)
→ Gravitational wave amplitude:
→ angle-avaraged signal-to-noise ratio for matched filtering:
→ Sn noise spectrum of the detector → h(f) is the Fourier-transformed h(t) → event rate ~ (S/N)-3 → optimal orientation 4/5 → 4 → for k detectore: 4/5 → 4 + (4/5)(k-1)½
→ in our paper: 4/5, S/N = 5
→ function of frequency

Conclusions
• PEs could be an important source (or noise) to consider for GW detection!
• What could we learn from PE observations?– measure mass distribution of BHs
(this is great importance for astrophysics)– constrain abundance of dense clusters of BHs– test theories
• Are BHs ejected?• It is possible to built optimal ground based detector for
detecting PEs

Egyszerű modellük jelentősen alábecsülte a várható eseménygyakoriságot!
Termikus egyensúlyon alapoló tömegszegregációt vettünk figyelembe!
Diszkusszió: Spitzer-instabilitás
Spitzer-instabilitás (1969): két komponensű rendszerben, ahol m1 << m2 és a kisebb tömegű objektumok dominálják a potenciált, nem
tud kialakulni a termikus egyensúly!
0.01 < Rcore /RGC < 0.1 (Heggie, Trenti & Hut 2006) érzékenyen függ a kezdeti kettősök számától!
1.44 - 144
eseményráta növekedés
Diszkusszió: kettős rendszerek
• I. zóna: r >> abinary
A szórási hatáskeresztmetszet számításában elhanyagoltuk a kettős rendszerek hatását!
• a pálya számításában figyelembe vett általános relativisztikus effektus
→ sugárzás lévén nő a befogási hatáskeresztmetszet, tehát csökken a hasznos eseményszám→ viszont a sugárzás lévén az eredetileg nem kötött pályák kötötté válhatnak (Lee 1993), és zoom-whirl orbitok jöhetnek létre, és ez növeli a detektálási rátát
analógia: SMBH befog stellar CO-t / Hopman & Alexander 2005 /
Turner (1977)
• newtoni pálya, quadrupól sugárzás• spin-pálya és spin-spin kölcsönhatás elhanyagolva (jel spektrumában tipikusan elhanyagolható?)• ω0 = v0 / b0 = 1/t0 (v0 relativ seb.) • spektrum maximuma f0-nál (f0 = ω0 / 2π)• széles spektrumú jel, félértékszélesség: 1.5 f0 • szögre kiátlagolt spektrum• dE/df zárt analitikus formula
Miért is kell a hullámforma az eseménygyakorisághoz?
Amplitúdó függ a frekvenciától + széles spektrumú jel → integrálni kell a detektor érzékenységi görbéjére!
S/N (mathed filtering)
• szögre kiátlagolt jel/zaj arány: S/N• Sn a detektor zajspektruma• h(f) a Fourier-transzformált kiátlagolt h(t) jel amplitúdó • esemény gyakoriság durván ~ (S/N)-3
• optimális orientáció esetén: 4/5 → 4• k detektor párhuzamos használata esetén, ha ebből az egyik közel optimális irányítottságú: 4/5 → 4 + (4/5)(k-1)½
• cikkünkben: 4/5, S/N = 5
