The program moves beyond the traditional disciplinary segregation within English studies and seeks to combine literature, linguistics, and cultural studies. As a result, it offers a fresh, uncompartmentalized, and international approach to the subjects studied. Courses and study areas will not be confined to one national literature but will focus on intercultural and transcultural phenomena. The program will develop students’ awareness of historical context and the relationships of literature to other texts and media.http://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/studienangebot/master/english_studies/index.html

This program offers academic, research-oriented training within the focus on history of the 19th/20th centuries. Historical issues and problems of historiography will be critically examined and developed. Comprehensive knowledge of cross-epochal and epochspecific developments and processes of historical transformation both within Europe and elsewhere serve as a foundation, as does knowledge about the history of historiography. In addition, questions of academic historical reconstruction, the use of specific working methods, and the theory-based interpretation of the past will be addressed in order to be able to understand the historical dimension of the present.http://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/studienangebot/master/geschichte_19u20jahrhundert_profil/index.html

Students in the Master of Arts International Relations program choose a focus either in “global challenges” or “EU studies”. Other important topics include “international organizations and institutions”, “international political economics”, “comparative foreign policy and regional analysis”, “EU studies” and “peace and security studies”. There is a broad range of courses offered in English language, although there is greater variety if student also knows German.http://www.masterib.de/

The master’s degree program in Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology is a bilingual program (German/English) that fosters advanced knowledge of the subject and methodology among students and enables them to embark on careers in research and practice in the fields of biodiversity and ecological research. The program teaches students professional methods of collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data on evolution, ecology, and biodiversity. The goal of the program is to provide students with a thorough understanding of complex ecological and evolutionary processes. Alongside theoretical fundamentals, students are introduced to the methods used in modern and traditional research in the fields of biodiversity, ecology, and evolutionary biology. By including curatorial elements at institutions that maintain collections and large-scale research institutions, the program offers students a way to earn particularly high qualifications.http://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/studienangebot/master/bioevolutionoeko/index.html

Pleistocene sediments from the archaeological Hetao man site in the Salawusu River valley (Ordos Plateau, China) cover the entire late Pleistocene and provide a unique environmental and climate archive. The lake, playa and aeolian sediments in this region reflect frequent landscape changes in the region. Analyses of sediments and microfossils (ostracods, charophyte remains, molluscs) will be performed to infer the past depositional conditions in the region and the related climate. The study will be performed in close cooperation with Prof. Li Baosheng (South China Normal University, Guangzhou) and Prof. Zhang Chengjun (Lanzhou University).

Miocene to early Pleistocene sediments from Zhada Basin and the Kunlun Pass region have recorded the regional tectonic evolution at the southern and northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau in addition to the extreme climate change from a greenhouse to an ice age world. The debated hypothesis of a rapid and relatively recent (Quaternary) uplift of the Tibetan Plateau will be examined in the frame of this study by an application of micropalaeontological and geochemical analyses. The study will be performed in close cooperation with Prof. Lai Zhongping (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Prof. Wang Xiaoming (Museum of Natural History, Los Angeles) and Prof. Zhang Chengjun (Lanzhou University).

Zhang Chengjun (Lanzhou University). http://www.geo.fu-berlin.de/geol/fachrichtungen/pal/mitarbeiter/mischke/index.html

Zhang Chengjun (Lanzhou University).http://www.geo.fu-berlin.de/geol/fachrichtungen/pal/mitarbeiter/mischke/index.html
