Crane Lake

Only one mile from the end of the road gives Pine Point the quietgetaway location that you will cherish each time you visit. Beingstrategically located at your back door, the BWCAW, VoyageursNational Park, and Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park offer youunspoiled wilderness with millions of acres and thousands of scenic shoreline miles to fish, hike, and explore.

From Crane Lake you can travel over 120 miles by boat. CraneLake has many natural fishing areas. On either side of PinePoint’s Peninsula, there aretwo separate rivers coming in.Walleyes, bass and crappieskey on the forage that is abun-dant in these incoming waters.

An underwater ridge is locat-ed just in front of the Resort. This makes for an excellentcrappie fishing hole. In fact, try fishing from the docks atthe Resort. Northerns, bass, walleyes or crappies are fre-quently caught just outsideyour cottage door. Find afavorite fishing hole, take insome scenic and historic sites,or you can portage a short distance to try a day of wilderness fishing on one ofour remote hike-in lakesdescribed. There is somethingfor everyone!

On our wilderness lakes, wehave a limited number of boats available for our guests. The lowfishing pressure in these lakes keeps the fishing at world classlevel. Fish for trophy walleye, large and smallmouth bass, crap-pie, northern pike, lake trout, and a variety of panfish.

Lilac LakeAttention bass and northern pike anglers!Lilac Lake produces unbelievable smallmouth bass and northerns. Approximately 10 scenic miles by boat from theLodge, this lake is located just across the border in Canadianwaters. After a one-quarter mile portage on relatively flat terrain, you’ll be on the pristine shorelines of Lilac Lake readyfor a great day!

Warning: With the abundant northern pike also lurking in thewaters, your topwater fishing can become a thrill of a lifetime.

Grab your pole, tacklebox, and get prepared for somefierce fishing!

Loon LakeOne of the most scenic tripsto take. Voyage down theLoon River to a mechanicalportage that allows you tocross into Loon Lake.

The walleye and northernfishing are spectacular inthese majestic waters. Fisheither the American orCanadian side.

The distance from the Lodgeis approximately 20 miles.Caution is to be used whentraveling to Loon Lake. Foryour first trip a guide wouldbe recommended.

Anticipate seeing a majestic bull moose, black bear, playful ottersor other mystifying wildlife.

Don’t forget your camera for this trip!!

The lake is knownfor its small and largemouth bass, lake trout andabundant panfish. This is an action-packed fishinglake for youngsters and adults alike.

Mukooda is a clear, spring-fed lake with a clarity of approximately 20’. Bring your snorkel or scubagear and head to the depths of the astounding lake.Swim amongst the bass and other fish as you explorethis phenomenal lake.

There is a marvelous beach and picnicarea located on the lake. Pack a shorelunch and head out to Mukooda for a perfect remote lake experience!!

Vermilion River – River fishing at its best!

Our 14’ boat is nestled below the falls on the Vermilion River. This allows you to fish the area from the Vermilion Falls down to the Rapids above the Gorge at Crane Lake.

Note: Very little fishing pressure is on this area. We have maps that you can review to help you become familiar with thisexclusive fishing area.

Walleyes, crappies and bass swim in the strong currents of thissecret fishing hole.

The 300-yard portage is very scenic wilderness trail.

Sharpen up your river fishing skills on the Vermilion River. Getready to reel them in!

Vermilion GorgeHike the Historic Gorge... track wildlife... listen to loons... watcheagles.

One of the most picturesque areas of Crane Lake is theVermilion Gorge. The trail can be picked up just around thepoint from the Lodge.

There is a nice picnic area located at the mouth of the gorge. Letus know if you would like to use our shore lunch kit for an after-noon picnic.

The 3 mile Vermilion Gorge Trail, at a leisurely pace, can be easi-ly hiked in 3 hours. The last portion of the trail parallels theGorge – a rugged landscape of sheergranite cliffs and rock outcrops. Asyou begin this portion of the trail, notice the change in vegetation. Theground is covered with a soft, greenmoss carpet sprinkled with spearmintplants to enhance the beauty of this majestic, scenic wonder.

A breathtaking adventure you mustexperience.

Visit theVermilionFalls...marvel at the cascadingwaterfall...

A 10-minute hike on a well-maintained trail going southwestputs you at the Vermilion Falls, a cascading torrent of waterforced through a 10-foot-wide opening in the granite.

The northeast section of the trail will lead you to “The Chute,” aconstriction in the river that produces a Class III to V rapids. This is a pleasant 5-minute walk and worth the effort.

Look for wild rice beds. The shoots begin to emerge in mid-Julyand seed heads won’t develop until the first part of August.Extensive wild rice beds flourish along the Vermilion River andare harvested by humans and wildlife alike from late Augustthrough October.

There are picnic tables and fire grates at the site for a perfectafternoon adventure!

Of the park’s 218,000 acresover one-third are water.Thirty lakes of all sizes makeup this enchanting chain oflakes. The larger lakes aredotted with pine coveredrocky islands. The beauty isextraordinary.

Your experience at Pine Pointcould include motorboating, fishing, canoeing, sightsee-ing, hiking along trails –looking for animal signs orblueberries in season.Voyageurs National Parkstands preserved and protect-ed by the National ParkService, giving you a view ofthe world as it appeared tothe French and Canadian furtraders centuries ago.

The American Plan Alternative:Tired of being at breakfast at a given time, or the fish are biting but you have to get back to camp to eat supper?Try this alternative ...Each cottage has cooking facilities. If you want to cook your own meal, you can. If you want your meals prepared, pick one of the local restaurants to eat at. Their hours are generally 6:30am until 10:00pm. You pick the time youwant to eat, and go. If you would like a courtesy shuttle by Pine Point to any of the restaurants, let us know. Allrestaurants are a short 5 minutes away by boat. In addition, each cottage is equipped with an informational bookof the area, things to see, do and weekly activities at the resort.
