Dear Resident ,
This month we are celebrating the recognition and endorsement by the 2013 Tatler Schools Guide of a great deal of our local schools. Read more on page 21 (Children & Education). You can also visit the Guide online (www.tatler.com) where you can
browse multiple prep and public schools for impartial evaluations.
February is the month when the animal and human kingdoms typically rouse from hibernation, at some safe and convenient point (preferably later in the month when we can truly anticipate spring). With March on the horizon, now is the time to
secure a ticket for some of the Belgravia Residents’ Association’s fantastic spring events. These include a private tour of the Wallace Collection (Residents' Culture, page 23) and a talk on the art of fragrance at Floris (The Calendar, page 8). There’s
really no better way to feel part of your community and have a great time whilst you're at it.
February cannot pass by without mention of Valentine’s Day. Step out in style at one of your local restaurants, some of which just lend themselves to the occasion (Food for thought, page 12). Don’t despair if you’re not attached; they say of French
favourite La Poule au Pot that it is as much a place to begin a love affair as it is to celebrate one. If, like me, you’re equally excited about Pancake Day, a key date for your diary will be 12 February: Shrove Tuesday. Have a liberal supply of milk,
flour, eggs, lemons and sugar (bare minimums) at the ready!

Gaucho International Polo 2013 at London’s O2 arena will be the largest display of arena polo ever seen in the UK, and is set to be the most
exciting, action-packed polo event of the year. Uniting high-octane arena polo with live world-famous music, this is set to be a unique event that
its 12,000 spectators will be unlikely to forget. This is definitely not your average sports experience.
Following the successful event of 2012, Gaucho International Polo has now established itself as the ultimate celebration of Argentina’s
sporting and cultural heritage, consisting of two international arena polo matches merged with a sensational festival of music. The matches will
see Scotland taking on Mexico before the epic clash of old foes England and Argentina, where Britain’s finest players will lead the home nation
against international polo superstars.
Gaucho International Polo 2013 will be a true Argentine festival, with tastings from some of the country’s finest wine producers, the best in Argentine food, the glamour of Buenos Aires, a players after party at
indigo02, and of course, adrenaline-fuelled battles in the arena. With a smaller pitch, simpler rules and tickets starting at just £25, arena polo
is an accessible way of introducing Londoners to Argentina’s most celebrated sporting tradition.

THE MANWhat is your favourite film?Easy – The Godfather. It just has wonderful actors and a great story.
What was the first album you ever bought?I think it was Appetite for Destruction by Guns ‘N’ Roses. It was their first album, so I must have been about 12 years old!
Which book are you reading at the moment?I particularly like biographies, as I like to read about influential people and leaders in their time, and I’ve normally got a couple on the go at once. Right now, I’m reading the Steve Jobs book and the biography of Blake Mycoskie, who created TOMS footwear.
Who’s been the most interesting person you’ve met so far?Not because he’s been my employer, but Ralph Lauren has genuinely been

an inspiration for me. He’s a wonderful family man, a terrific leader and a brilliant business entrepreneur.
Who would you most like to meet?It would have been fun to meet Frank Sinatra. He intrigues me. But, since he’s dead, I’m hopeful that one day I’ll get the chance to meet Nelson Mandela.
Who was your childhood hero?Gonzalo Pieres.
And who has been your biggest influence? My father; he’s the one who taught me that hard work pays off. If you keep going, nothing is impossible.
What ambitions do you still have?To keep expanding polo, but my passion is to do so by linking the game to big brands and businesses in order to find means to ensure there is a significant charitable element to each event as well. The potential is almost limitless.
