Introduction:

Global Edventure Travel Ltd (GET), a premier destination management company, which provides Educational ventures for schools worldwide. GET is a UK based company, and partnered with Arabian Overland, registered in Oman, to operate outdoor and adventurous activities. GET are offering the exciting opportunity for schools world-wide to experience our Global Edventure Camps Oman (GECO). We have been operating trips successfully in Oman for the past 6 years. Bookings are now open for 2016/17.

We tailor each programme to the needs of a school to ensure our provision provides the ultimate experience for the children. We use the natural environment for all of our camps for children over the age of 8. We see this as a natural progression from activity programmes school groups may have followed in earlier years. Nothing is better than seeing the achievement children gain and fun they have by climbing a ‘real’ rock face, solving problems and challenges in teams, and gaining further insight into their own capabilities. GECO provide the ultimate in adventurous activity and include activities including but not limited to: climbing & abseiling; cycling; mountain biking; camping; snorkelling; raft building; dolphin watching; kayaking; navigation with compass and GPS; team games; bush craft and survival skills; environmental studies; historical and cultural tours; geography and geology studies; gorge walking &canyoning; hiking and via ferrata, and hold a long-standing relationship with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award.

Aim:

To provide an educational and life enhancing experience though a variety of progressive outdoor and adventurous activities

To provide an experiential learning experience through cultural and social interaction in the country of Oman.

To develop a range of personal and team skills through new, different, challenging and rewarding activities.

To have fun!

Jebel ShamsActivities in Oman: Students will participate in a range of activities designed to be fun, challenging and educational. Our staff will organise and lead all activities, although if teachers are willing to be involved and take part they are most welcome to do so. We actively encourage this as it will often inspire those less-confident children to find the courage to try a new experience.

Safety is paramount with all of our trips and activities. All necessary safety equipment is standard with all trips .

• Children are asked to bring: water bottle, sun hat, sun-screen and appropriate clothing for each activity.

• A kit list will be provided once the programme has been finalised. • Children must wear footwear with straps at all times and/or trainers for all activities.

Our Services:

• All of our activities take place in the ‘real’ environment.

• Our locations and activities are specifically designed for the age and ability of all students and always with a focus on safety.

• Our staff are qualified and experienced outdoor instructors in the specialist activities we provide.

• Our staff are British/International Instructors with experience in working with children. We are also supported on the ground by our Omani team who are experienced guides in the local environment.

• All staff members are police checked before working with GET. • All activities are Risk Assessed and a copy of our document is available to the school to support their own risk assessment. All members of staff

are first aid trained or have higher medical training for adventure activities. Several of our staff are also qualified to work with children/adults on the water.

• Our in-country partner is Arabian Overland, a local company owned and managed by the owner of Global Edventure Travel Ltd. Both companies are covered with Public Indemnity Insurance to operate and provide those activities outlined in our programmes.

Overview

Location: The camps are based at either GECO Sifah or GECO Shams, our private camps offering excellent facilities for our groups in a safe and secluded location.

GECO Sifa: Our Coastal location, allowing groups to visit from October through to April, offering both land and water based activities in a range of natural environments in the best time of year. GECO Shams: Our mountain camp for all-year round programmes, with a focus on land-based activities. Located at 2000 metres above sea level on the Jebal Shams mountain, GET have teamed up with the Jebal Shams Resort to offer GECO Shams.

Accommodation: GECO Sifah : Our purpose built camp developed in association with Muriya Oman and the Jebel Sifah Resort, located right on the beach where we offer large luxurious “Bell” tents sleeping between 4 and 9 students. Teachers will be accommodated in individual tents. Mattresses are supplied, you need only bring your sleeping bag and pillow. Our exclusive partnership with Arabian Overland will ensure you benefit from full facilities and optimum security in this magnificent location. Boasting an unparalleled view of the Indian Ocean on one side and the impressive Jebel Sifah mountain range on the other, this is an opportunity not to be missed……. GECO @ Jebel Shams Resort: Where we can welcome you year round in 3 man dome tent accommodation. The resort boasts the same amenities as Sifah with access to all the facilities of the hotel, including the restaurant.

Cultural Meal Camp Duties

Camp Duties: Children will be expected to take part in camp duties throughout the week. We believe it is important that children learn to take responsibility for looking after their camp, their belongings, the environment and eating area. All children will be expected to maintain a clean and tidy tent and keep personal items in their tents at all times.

GET Responsible:‘Responsible Tourism goes hand in hand with being a good destination management company.’

GET strives to promote a positive impact through the experiences we provide for our groups travelling to Oman and on the environments we visit. To continue our development and commitment to being a responsible tourist GET has joined the Leave No Trace organisation.

What is Responsible Tourism?

Responsible Travel is about respecting the people, environment and cultures of the places you visit. The main objectives in promoting Responsible Tourism are:

• To strive to offer economic benefit to local businesses and communities; • To minimise its impact on the environment. • To respect local people and cultures. • To provide a memorable experience for travellers. • To protect destinations for future generations.

How do GET promote Responsible Tourism? Our company works hand in hand with schools to provide an educational and life learning experience for young people. In providing an opportunity for school groups to travel, we are providing an experience of a lifetime to explore and learn about new cultures, flora and fauna, history, language and much more. GET promotes and follow the 7 principles of Leave No Trace:

• Plan ahead and prepare • Travel and camp on durable surfaces • Dispose of waste properly • Leave what you find • Minimize Campfire Impacts • Respect Wildlife • Be considerate of other visitors.

Safety:

GET makes ‘safety’ one of the priorities when conducting any trip. GET carry out a full risk assessment of a destination, its accommodations, transport, activities, eateries, sights to be visited, plus any other aspect that may be considered an issue of safety for a trip.

British Standard – BS 8848:2014 Specification for the provision of visits, fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities outside the United Kingdom.

GET follow the British Standard core principles: • Informed choice – all risks should be assessed and clearly explained to participants and parents so that they

understand what they are getting into before they book. • Single provider - there should be one clearly identified organisation in charge of the venture to take overall

responsibility. • Capable staff - all ventures should be run by competent and experienced staff. • Good Preparation & Planning - policies and procedures put in place to identify and manage risk at every stage of the

venture.

Follow the link to view the British Standard BS 8848:2014

British Standard BS 8848:2014

It is important for the school, parents and the children to understand that the children will be participating in challenging and high risk activities. Taking children outside their comfort zone is one of the aims of the trip to provide a challenging and rewarding experience and to heighten and develop personal confidence in a variety of new and challenging activities. Our staff are qualified and experienced in all activities and will ensure children are not put under any due stress which would counter the aims of the experience.
