The Saad Centre for Radiography The University for business and the professions General and Dental X-ray facilities The innovative facilities at City University London’s Saad Centre for Radiography have opened up new ways of teaching and learning, helping to place City among the leaders in radiography education and research. There are seven specialised rooms in the Centre, each with state-of-the-art equipment. This advanced technology is available not only to our students, but also to other users for activities and projects that might be far removed from its more obvious clinical applications. The General and Dental X-Ray room is a modern facility equipped with the best teaching and clinical equipment. Our students and other users are able to learn, practice and carry out their work assignments and projects in a calm environment without the pressures found in clinical X-Ray departments or busy dental practices. This fully functional X-Ray unit, with its separate control room complete with observation window and digital imaging technology, is available throughout the year for use in both teaching and research projects with the support of our academic staff. For General X-Ray purposes we are equipped with a Siemens flexible ceiling suspended X-Ray tube. It can be easily positioned within the room providing the capability to X-Ray anything within the human diagnostic range. Applications include general radiography with standing, sitting or recumbent patients, direct exposures or bucky exposures in the region of the abdomen, pelvis, skull, spine or extremities. The unit is equipped with CR digital functionality and an adjacent Agfa CR reader for immediate image viewing and diagnosis. The high-frequency X-ray generator - Polydoros ITS - works with multi-pulse waveform for high data accuracy, precise reproducibility and short exposure times. The combination of microprocessor control and high-frequency converter technique ensures good X-ray images due to the high accuracy of the acquisition data. Our students spend half their term time in clinical placements so these facilities are available throughout the year; an exceptional opportunity for those with no connection to City.

General and Dental X-ray facilities

The innovative facilities at City University London’s Saad Centre for Radiography have opened up new ways of teaching andlearning, helping to place City among the leaders in radiography education and research.

There are seven specialised rooms in the Centre, each with state-of-the-art equipment. This advanced technology isavailable not only to our students, but also to other users for activities and projects that might be far removed from itsmore obvious clinical applications.

The General and Dental X-Ray room is a modern facility equipped with the best teaching and clinical equipment. Ourstudents and other users are able to learn, practice and carry out their work assignments and projects in a calmenvironment without the pressures found in clinical X-Ray departments or busy dental practices. This fully functional X-Rayunit, with its separate control room complete with observation window and digital imaging technology, is availablethroughout the year for use in both teaching and research projects with the support of our academic staff.

For General X-Ray purposes we are equipped with a Siemens flexible ceiling suspended X-Ray tube. It can be easilypositioned within the room providing the capability to X-Ray anything within the human diagnostic range. Applicationsinclude general radiography with standing, sitting or recumbent patients, direct exposures or bucky exposures in theregion of the abdomen, pelvis, skull, spine or extremities. The unit is equipped with CR digital functionality and an adjacentAgfa CR reader for immediate image viewing and diagnosis. The high-frequency X-ray generator - Polydoros ITS - workswith multi-pulse waveform for high data accuracy, precise reproducibility and short exposure times. The combination ofmicroprocessor control and high-frequency converter technique ensures good X-ray images due to the high accuracy of theacquisition data.

Our students spend half their term time in clinical placements so these facilities are available throughout the year; anexceptional opportunity for those with no connection to City.

Our modern Dental X-Ray equipment will be of particular interest to the dental professional. With the current trend towardsup-skilling for dental nurses and hygienists, we can offer short courses on the use of X-ray equipment and imageproduction as well as refresher training in radiation protection safety and imaging. The equipment is fully digital with adirect link to the monitor in the control room. With the most up-to-date technology, we can train dental professionals whenthey upgrade their practice’s equipment.

Our General X-Ray equipment features adjustable inherent filtration, so we can image extremely fine structures, even plantmaterial and fabrics, as well as the more usual items. This means we can offer the technology expertise for a wide range ofapplications, disciplines and projects where access and time on such equipment is required.

In addition to our range of under- and post-graduate programmes we are able to develop and deliver a full range of shortcourses, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules and tailored projects. Less conventionally, we have alsoundertaken research and investigation into museum artefacts, fine art and antique furniture, ancient skeletal remains andplant materials. Members of our academic staff are available to work with and support those individuals and organisationswith an interest in taking advantage of the opportunity the facility affords.
