RebaAll The women I Am

entertainment

P owerful, emotive recording artist . Dynam-ic, charismatic live performer . Acclaimed Broadway star . Successful film and televi-sion actress . With an unparalleled résumé that spans more than four decades and

several entertainment genres, Reba is country music’s ultimate Renaissance woman . The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum pays tribute to this inimitable artist with the exhibition Reba: All the Women I Am. The exhibit features over a dozen costumes worn by this iconic artist, many of which have been worn during performances of her beloved song “Fancy .” It also gives a heartfelt look at a genuine family woman, born into a musical home . Reba grew up in Chockie, Oklahoma, on a cattle ranch, traveling regularly to rodeos with her father, champion calf roper Clark McEntire . Influenced by their mother, Jackie, who was a talented singer, Reba and her siblings Pake and Susie began performing as the Singing McEntires while in high school . In 1974, Reba sang the national anthem at the National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City; cowboy singer Red Steagall heard her and financed a recording session, which led to her signing with Mercury Records in 1975 . Reba began releasing singles in 1976, and two years later she scored her first Top 20 hit with “Three Sheets in the Wind,” a duet with Jacky Ward . Since then, Reba has performed in Broadway musi-cals, acted on Hollywood stages, sang in theaters and stadiums across the world, written books, designed clothes, and gave love and infrastructure to a beautiful family of her own . Although Reba was awarded country music’s highest honor in 2011 with her election to the Country Music Hall of Fame, her career shows no signs of slowing down: her most recent album, All the Women I Am, spawned the #1 hit “Turn on the Radio .” Explore all the different facets of this dynamic woman as well as many other American music heroes at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in down-town Nashville . Are you looking for some good ole’ home cooking, exceptional Southern Hospitality and live entertainment that will have you singing along and tapping your feet? Then Nashville Nightlife is

definitely the place to go! We recently had the pleasure of a night out at the theater . We were warmly greeted at the door and given our tickets . We browsed the lobby area where we found unique, one-of-a-kind souvenirs and gifts . Before long, the hostess called our name and personally seated our party in the dinner theater . A smiling, friendly waitress took our beverage order and directed us to the buffet table . There we found a lovely salad bar and a first-class buffet with country fried chicken and ribs as their entrees that night, complete with all the fixins’ . Everything was homemade right down to the peach cobbler for dessert . I had the warm feeling of being in my grandma’s kitchen . Once the entertainment starts, I guarantee you will be dancing in your seat . We were treated to such a wide variety of music from Hank Williams Sr ., Patsy Cline, and

Conway Twitty to Sara Evans and Toby Keith . There is entertainment for the entire family . The “Best of Country” Dinner and Show, throughout their season, includes guest stars such as “Opry Star” Jeannie Seely, “The Fiddle Man” Tim Watson, Tommy Cash, Diana Murrell, Paula Poe (from the Tammy Wynette Show) and many others . This is a fantastic show you won’t want to miss! The standing ovation at the end of the show is an indication of the great time the audience had . Following the show there is a meet and greet with the performers . I would highly recommend that visitors to Nashville experience Nashville Nightlife where you will see the best of country from old to new . Come see why the Nashville Nightlife Dinner Theater presents a Dinner and Country Music Show voted the best combination in Nashville . Don’t miss this Nashville tradition . Located at 2416 Music Valley Drive in Music Valley Village across the street from the Gaylord Opryland Resort and the Grand Ole Opry . American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell, an exhibition organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts will be on view at the Frist

Center through February 9, 2014 . During this holiday season, visitors will have the opportunity to examine the legendary American illustrator’s working process and career through his oil paintings, iconic Saturday Evening Post covers, photographs and correspondence . Representing fifty-six years of the artist’s career, the works in this exhibition span from frontiersmen to the turbulent events of the 1960s . A reporter at heart, Rockwell told visual stories with meticulous detail and went to great lengths to achieve precision in his studio . However, he is equally recognized for his trademark idealistic tint, affection and humor . “Rockwell’s paintings are infused with a sense of nostalgia,” says Frist Center Curator Trinita Kennedy . “In truth, his work looked back to a simpler time that never was .” Signature works such as No Swimming (1921), Christmas Homecoming (1948) and Triple Self-Portrait (1959) will all be on display, yet even Rockwell aficionados will find something new in this exhibition . Photographs, correspondence, a short film, and the artist’s own newspaper clippings used for research provide a glimpse into Rockwell’s creative process . Commenting on the broad appeal of Rockwell’s work, Ms . Kennedy says, “Although Rockwell was from New York City, he focused on small town life . He shaped a generation’s perception of itself .” The organization of the exhibition tells the story of Rockwell’s career development, and in turn, mirrors the country’s own transformation into a complex modern society during the 20th century . Guests will be able to revisit Rockwell’s familiar depictions of carefree, idyllic childhood for Boys’ Life as well as the complications of early adolescence as displayed in works such as Girl at Mirror (1954) and The Discovery (1956) in a broader context . In the 1960s, however, Rockwell developed

a more reportorial style while covering social issues such as race relations and poverty for Look magazine . “At The Saturday Evening Post, Rockwell worked under certain editorial restrictions,” explains Ms . Kennedy . “For example, he could only depict people of color in positions of service . At Look, a harder-hitting publication, he was searching for greater freedom and new challenges, which is interesting at that later stage in his life and career .” Rockwell’s first assignment for Look—the now iconic story illustration The Problem We All Live With (1964)—captures six-year-old African American Ruby Bridges, accompanied by four U .S . marshals, en route to her first day at an all-white school in New Orleans . American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell will be shown concurrently at the Frist Center with 30 Americans, an exhibition of works by leading contemporary African American artists and organized by the Rubell Family Collection in Miami . The curators deliberately scheduled the two exhibitions together in an attempt to foster a larger conversation about what it means to be American . Frist Center curator Katie Delmez states, “The artists in 30 Americans are asserting that their experiences are every bit as ‘American’ as Rockwell’s images of Thanksgiving and that they also need to be included in the full picture of American history .” For more information, please visit fristcenter .org .

A must see in nAshville

T he Johnny Cash Museum features the largest collec-tion of Johnny Cash memorabilia in the world . From The Man in Black’s earliest childhood artifacts to the very last song he wrote, you’ll find it here . Exhibits chronicle Johnny’s life and provide a very

personal and unique glimpse into his world . Depicted in stunning graphics, artifacts and interactive technology, visitors are provided a three dimensional walk through the life and legend of this international icon . Our exhibits include Johnny’s stage costumes, instruments, personal letters, artwork and handwritten songs as well as artifacts from family members and notable friends . More than 25 costumes are on exhibit including the gown worn by First lady Patricia Nixon when Cash played the White House in 1971 . Another highlight is the custom Gibson J200 guitar Johnny had made in 1958 which was on exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for seven years before moving to its present home here in Nashville . The instrument is valued at $250,000 . Cash, who sold more than 100 million records, is one of the world’s best known and loved entertainers . His concert tours took him around the world and he is known in every corner of the globe . He has received virtually every award the entertainment world has to offer and is the only entertainer in history to be inducted into the Rock and Roll, Country Music, Songwriter’s and Gospel Music Halls of Fame . His Facebook page has over 10 million followers; more than most living entertainers . He posted over 130 hits on the Billboard Country singles chart, more than anyone in history, except George Jones . (Discounting duets by both men, Cash’s total exceeds Jones .) Cash placed at least two singles on the Country charts for 38 consecutive years, including an amazing 25 hits between 1958 and 1960 .

Johnny Cash is the only artist to have songs on the Billboard charts for six consecutive decades . He received two of the Nation’s greatest honors; The National Medal of Arts, presented by President George W . Bush and the Kennedy Center Honors, presented by President Bill Clinton . He amassed 17 Grammy awards during the span of his career; among the most awarded to any entertainer in history . Personalities ranging from Snoop Dog, the members of U2, Bob Dylan, Justin Timberlake, Kris Kristofferson, Bruce Springsteen and several U .S . Presidents, among many others are self-professed Cash fans, demonstrating his broad popularity which spans age and culture . Among the many highlights are the handwritten lyrics to his classic hits I Walk the Line and Folsom Prison Blues . You’ll also see a stone wall from Johnny and June’s storied home on the lake in Hendersonville including their precious antique furnishings and personal belongings . Our Museum Store features the largest selection of Cash souvenirs, apparel and rare collectibles available anywhere in the world . Come and visit the Johnny Cash Museum . Our staff members include Cash family members and friends who love to visit and share stories with our guests . No trip to Nashville would be complete without a visit to the Johnny Cash Museum . We’ll see you there!

Museum and Museum Store hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM seven days per week . Closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving . For more information call 615-256-1777 .
