Page 2: Glade Church Fall 2012 Connect Book

From our Senior Pastor, Bruce Grubbs ... News! Our “Connect” Ministry now has over 140 groups that meet each week. They meet on campus, in homes, restaurants, and places of business. Currently over 1,700 people participate in these groups weekly.

Why so many groups? To help us connect with each other and grow in our faith. To help us discover and develop the wonderful gifts that God has given us. To help us turn strangers into friends and enjoy life together.

What kind of groups do we have? There are basically two types of groups. “On-going” and “Short- term”. On-Going groups generally meet on Sundays at church. They serve as our “home-base” for Bible study, fellowship and sharing weekly. Short-term groups gather for a few weeks or a few months. They explore topics of interest, deal with issues of concern or tackle a task that needs doing. You can sign up, participate through a course of study or activity and move on to other groups as you may wish.

How can you get involved? Start by scanning this book. Find a Sunday Connect Group that you can become part of in an on-going way. Then consider the other shorter-term options based on your interest, need, or desire. Enroll/register for whatever groups you wish.

When can you get involved? You can join an on-going group at any time. It is best to join a short-term group when it first begins to get the greatest benefit from your experience. These groups may be registered for at the Fall-Group Link, which occurs from August 1st-12th.

There will be sign-up opportunities: -Wednesday evening, August 1st - Sunday, August 5th - Wednesday evening, August 8th - Sunday, August 12th

Registration is also available online at www.gladevillechurch.org/findagroup

Sunday Morning Connect Groups Ministry

The Adult Sunday Morning Connect Group ministry at the Glade Church provides a primary connection point for adults to grow in Christ.

The Adult Sunday Morning Connect Group Purpose:

ConnectAs the primary connection point, the Sunday Morning Connect Ministry helps adults find Christ as Savior and the church as their spiritual home—a place where they connect with God and build fellowship with other believers.

GrowAs the place where adults grow in Christ, the Sunday Morning Connect Ministry helps them enrich their walk with Christ through foundational Bible teaching and by encouraging them to develop daily habits of personal Bible study and prayer.

Bible Studies/Topical Studies

Experiencing God Leaders: Henry & Patti Webb Contact #: 615.883.7187 E-Mail: [email protected] When: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm Where: Room A-178 (Annex I) This study gets to the heart of the relationship that we are to have with GOD. If you really have a heart for God and seek after him, this study will bless you over and over again. By using examples from the Bible the authors show us how God wants to have a close personal relationship with ALL of his children. We see how God works with HIS children from the Old and the New Testament. God does not change, and this study shows that to us again and again.

How to Read the Bible for All It’s WorthLeader: Mark Wofford Contact #: 615.444.9550Email: [email protected]: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pmWhere: Room 152

Understanding the Bible isn't for the few, the gifted, the scholarly. The Bible is accessible. It's meant to be read and comprehended by everyone from armchair readers to seminary students. A few essential insights into the Bible can clear up a lot of misconceptions and help you grasp the meaning of Scripture and its application to your 21st-century life. This group will help you understand scripture in new and fresh ways.

Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted (Priscilla Shirer Study)Leader: Sheri VickContact #: 615.504.4590Email: [email protected]: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pmWhere: Room A-172 (Annex I)

What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this 7-session Bible study, Priscilla redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God's invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.

Life’s Healing Choices for Men Leader: Jack BufkinContact #: 615.516.8719Email: [email protected]: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pmWhere: Room A-163 (Annex I)

We've all been hurt by other people, we've hurt ourselves, and we've hurt others. And as a result, every single one of us ends up with some sort of hurt, hang-up, or habit. But the question we all face is: Where do we go from here?

Life's Healing Choices offers freedom from our hurts, hang-ups, and habits through eight healing choices that promise true happiness and life transformation. Using the Beatitudes of Jesus as a foundation, Senior Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church and John Baker, also a pastor at Saddleback, developed the eight choices shared in this book.

In addition to practical, encouraging biblical teaching, each chapter includes two real-life stories of men and women whose lives have been transformed by living out the eight choices in this book. Through making each of these choices, you too will find God's pathway to wholeness, growth, spiritual maturity, happiness, and healing. You'll find real answers, real hope, and a real future—one healing choice at a time.

Imagine the transforming power of men coming together within your church and community to honestly examine their lives and take the courageous steps necessary to embrace authentic manhood on a journey to become who God intends them to be. That is the goal of Men's Fraternity.

When men connect in life-changing ways, a powerful ripple effect touches families, workplaces, and the church. Deeper connections with God and other men inspire participants to connect more meaningfully in all facets of their lives. They aspire to a biblical viewpoint marked by integrity, boldness, and compassion. Through this powerful series, men learn to reject passivity, accept responsibility, lead courageously, and expect God's greater reward.

The Format for Men’s Fraternity:

The format is simple: Men come together for weekly 45-minute teaching sessions, followed by 30 minutes of small group interaction in an environment where men are free to talk openly and confidentially about what they heard and express mutual support for one another.

We are beginning Year 2 of 3 years of the Men’s Fraternity Study. The second year’s study is “Winning at Work & Home.”

Winning at Work & Home - Robert Lewis challenges men to step forward, meet their responsibilities, and establish their manhood. This study focuses on the chief responsibilities men have as husbands, fathers, and breadwinners. Participants will evaluate chief responsibilities of how a man successfully relates to a woman and how a man rightly engages in his work.

Year 2 will be offered at three different times:

The Quest for Authentic Manhood study leads men along a journey toward real biblical masculinity while fostering deep spiritual, emotional, and personal growth. This study also takes a man inside himself to consider the forces that are shaping — or misshaping — his personal manhood.

Year 1 will be offered at:

Child Safety & Security:Security for your child is a top priority at the Glade. Children especially need to feel secure and loved in their environment. We have a security system in place anytime pre-schoolers are participating in church activities. Our security system is in place for birth-5th graders. Parents are also welcome to check in on their little ones at any time during a session. Silent pagers are also available upon request.

Special Needs Our commitment at the Glade Church is to serve children with special needs and their families with honor and integrity.   The end goal for children with special needs is no different than our end goal for typical children … being transformed more into Christ's likeness (see the Glade Church strategy).

To realize that goal with children who have special needs, we make the following commitments:

•Caring and trained adult staff•Consistent peer models working alongside children with adult

helpers•Honoring requests of families regarding inclusion/

mainstreaming

We believe these components are critical for creating a successful environment for learning, spiritual development, and transformation in Jesus Christ for children with special needs.

SERVE/GO

Child Safety & Security:Security for your child is a top priority at The Glade Church. Children especially need to feel secure and loved in their environment. We have a security system in place anytime children are participating in church activities. Our security system is in place for birth-5th graders. Parents are also welcome to check in on their children at anytime during a session (we ask you do so discreetly, however, so as not to disrupt), and to volunteer to be a part of your children’s activities.

We look for opportunities throughout the year to give our children a way to serve in the community through ministry and missions projects. One specific way to accomplish this is the Family Mission Trip which will be held in November 2012.

Special Needs

To realize that goal with children who have special needs, we make the following commitments:

•Caring and trained adult staff•Consistent peer models working alongside children with adult

helpers•Honoring requests of families regarding inclusion/

mainstreaming

We believe these components are critical for creating a successful environment for learning, spiritual development, and transformation in Jesus Christ for children with special needs.

Our commitment at the Glade Church is to serve children with special needs and their families with honor and integrity.  The end goal for children with special needs is no different than our end goal for typical children … being transformed more into Christ's likeness (see the Glade Church strategy).

Our middle school ministry exists to glorify God through the spiritual transformation of individual middle school students through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How we help middle school students through the process of spiritual transformation ...

COME/WORSHIP“The District” for Middle School students is a midweek worship opportunity for students 6th-8th grade, and usually where they walk through our door for the first time. We play games, worship, and present a message of Truth to students. The bounce-off-the-wall outgoing and the shy, quiet, more reserved teen will both find a comfortable fit.

Worship When: Wednesdays

Time: 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm Where: The District

The District and the surrounding hang out areas provide students with a place to fellowship with their friends. There is no pressure for them to do anything when they walk through the door.

Grades 6th - 8th

CONNECT/GROWTo help students connect with other believers and grow in their relationship with Christ, we have Sunday Morning Connect Groups for high school students that meet every week at 9:30 am. We dig into God’s Word and apply it directly to ever-changing teen culture. Students and caring adults discuss parents, dating, relationships, work, peer pressure, friends, values, and boundaries all within the context of God’s perfect plan for their lives.

Life Groups are another way to provide a way for students to go even deeper in both their relationship with Christ and their relationships with their peers.

Life Groups When: Sundays

Life Groups provide a way for students to go even deeper in both their relationship with Christ and their relationships with their peers. These small groups are gender specific and meet in 6-8 week intervals several times a year, typically on Sunday nights. We find that this schedule works best for most students and the absence of the opposite sex alleviates pressure and discussion barriers for guys and girls alike.

What does it mean to be a “member” of the Glade Church?

.

We at the Glade Church will never pursue you to become a member. In fact, you are welcome to worship, connect in a group, and serve in a ministry here (i.e. Choir, First Impressions Ministry, Automotive Ministry, etc.) without being a member. But when you become a member, you will be eligible to vote on church matters, to serve in leadership, and be eligible to lead a group or ministry. Membership implies certain commitments and responsibilities as well. These include but are not limited to the following:

• participating regularly in corporate worship• connecting with and participating in a small group• serving God through this church family

If you wish to become a “member” of the Glade Church, you can join in one the following ways:

• By receiving believer’s baptism (i.e. immersion) by which you are saying that you have received Christ.

• By “statement” that you have already received Christ and have received believer’s baptism.

• By simple transfer of your membership from another Baptist fellowship.

• Note: If you are a believer and you are coming from a church that does not practice baptism by immersion, you may join our church by simply being baptized here.

To learn more about the privileges and responsibilities of being a member of The Glade Church family you may visit the Next Step Center on any Sunday, attend a Next Step Orientation or visit our website (gladevillechurch.org) and click on “Next Step” under the “New Here?” tab.
