Created to Connect…

Fall 2013

From Pastor Bruce Grubbs…

At the Glade Church we believe connecting with other believer's in small groups is essential to our growth as Christians. We have over 100 groups meeting every week either on campus or in homes, restaurants, and places of business.

• These groups help us to connect with other believers.• These groups help us to grow in our faith and to

develop the special gifts and abilities God has given us.

• In these connect groups, strangers become friends, and friends enjoy life together.

If you’re not in a connect group you’ll find it hard to get to know anyone at the Glade Church. The truth is, you really can’t fellowship with hundreds of people at a time, but you can develop strong connections in a group made up of fifteen to twenty.

What kind of groups do we have? There are two types of groups: “On-going” and “Short- term”. On-Going groups generally meet on Sundays at church. (See page 12) They serve as our “home-base” for Bible study, fellowship and sharing weekly. Short-term groups gather for a few weeks or a few months for topical studies, activities or to tackle a task that needs doing. You can sign up, participate through a course of study or activity and move on to other groups as you may wish. Early in 2014 we will add Community Groups to our “On-Going” and “Short-Term” offerings as an additional opportunity to connect and grow in your relationship with Christ and others.

How can you get involved? Start by scanning this book. Find a Sunday Connect Group that you can become part of in an on-going way. Then consider the other shorter-term options based on your interest, need, or desire. Enroll/register for whatever groups you wish.

When can you get involved? You can join an on-going group at any time. It is best to join a short-term group when it first begins to get the greatest benefit from your experience. These groups may be registered for at the Fall-Group Link, which occurs from August 11th to 18th.

There will be sign-up opportunities: - Sunday Morning, August 11, 2013 - Wednesday evening, August 14, 2013 - Sunday Morning, August 18, 2013

Do you feel like the world around us is hostile to the message of Christ and the lifestyle we are called to live? If not, why?

This September we will look to the stories of an ancient people who were taken from their homeland to a foreign country. They lived among a people speaking a strange language, with strange gods, and strange ways.

As a result of participating this fall, you will be helped to understand and embrace practical principles from the Bible. You will be helped to see how you can live a vibrant faith in any culture.

Sunday Morning Connect Groups MinistryThe Adult Sunday Morning Connect Group Ministry at the Glade Church provides a primary connection point for adults to grow in relationship with Christ and others.

The Adult Sunday Morning Connect Group Purpose:

Connect…As the primary connection point, the Sunday Morning Connect Ministry helps adults find Christ as Savior and the church as their spiritual home—a place where they connect with God and build fellowship with other believers.

Grow…As the place where adults grow in Christ, the Sunday Morning Connect Ministry helps adults enrich their walk with Christ through foundational Bible teaching and by encouraging them to develop daily habits of personal Bible study and prayer.

Baker's eight steps to spiritual freedom (admitting need, getting help, letting go, coming clean, making changes, repairing relationships, maintaining momentum and recycling pain) promise to help Christians overcome many kinds of addictive behaviors. Baker likens them to AA's 12-step program, but clarifies that Christ is the source of lasting change. He writes that as believers refuse to admit their powerlessness to overcome tendencies to do wrong, their lives are fraught with fear, frustration, fatigue and failure. The cure? Admitting weakness with a humble heart; then praying, writing and sharing with others about the problem. Each chapter includes moving narratives of participants in Baker's program who express how its principles changed their lives. These practical, pithy how-tos will galvanize Christians into action with the simplicity of Baker's easy-to-actualize plan.

Most Bible studies help people; this one changes them forever. For more than 15 years, God has used Experiencing God in His work, showing believers how to know Him intimately while encouraging them to step out in faith and join Him in His work--with miraculous results.

Each chapter includes moving narratives of participants in Baker's program who express how its principles changed their lives. These practical, pithy how-tos will galvanize Christians into action with the simplicity of Baker's easy-to-actualize plan.

Resolving Everyday ConflictLeader: Dr. Henry WebbWho Attends: Mixed Gender Adult GroupContact #: 615.883.7187Email: [email protected]: 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm Starting Aug. 14Where: Room A-173 (Annex I)Sessions: 9 Week StudyWe all have conflict. It’s usually not the big blow up—it’s more like the tense conversation around the breakfast table with a family member or the difficulties with an angry neighbor, an overbearing boss, or a moody teenager. These everyday conflicts build up walls and tear down relationships wherever they occur—at home, at work, or anywhere in between. Biblical answers for this common problem provide good news and real hope. You will find the powerful and practical biblical answers you are looking for to forever change how conflict looks in your life.

True Woman 101: Divine Design Leader: Patti WebbWho Attends: Adult Women’s StudyContact #: 615.500.4060Email: [email protected]: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm Starting Aug. 14Where: Room A-178 (Annex I)Sessions: 8 Week StudyWhat does it mean to be a woman? The current cultural ideal for womanhood is women should be powerful and in control. But sadly, this model of womanhood hasn't delivered the happiness and fulfillment it promised. The Bible teaches that it's not up to us to decide what womanhood is all about. God created male and female for a very specific purpose that was very intentional. He wants women to discover, embrace, and delight in the beauty of His design. He's looking for True Women! Bible teachers Mary A. Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss will encourage women to discover and embrace God's design and mission for their lives.

Imagine the transforming power of men coming together within your church and community to honestly examine their lives and take the courageous steps necessary to embrace authentic manhood on a journey to become who God intends them to be. That is the goal of Men's Fraternity.

When men connect in life-changing ways, a powerful ripple effect touches families, workplaces, and the church. Deeper connections with God and other men inspire participants to connect more meaningfully in all facets of their lives. They aspire to a biblical viewpoint marked by integrity, boldness, and compassion. Through this powerful series, men learn to reject passivity, accept responsibility, lead courageously, and expect God's greater reward.

The Format for Men’s Fraternity:The format is simple: Men come together for weekly 45-minute teaching sessions, followed by 30 minutes of small group interaction in an environment where men are free to talk openly and confidentially about what they heard and express mutual support for one another.

We are continuing Year 3 of 3 years of the Men’s Fraternity Study. The third year’s study is “The Great Adventure.”

What does it mean to be a “member” of the Glade Church?

.

We at the Glade Church will never pursue you to become a member. In fact, you are welcome to worship, connect in a group, and serve in a ministry here (i.e. Choir, First Impressions Ministry, Automotive Ministry, etc.) without being a member. But when you become a member, you will be eligible to vote on church matters, to serve in leadership, and be eligible to lead a group or ministry. Membership implies certain commitments and responsibilities as well. These include but are not limited to the following:

• Participating regularly in corporate worship• Connecting with and participating in a small group• Serving God through this church family

If you wish to become a “member” of the Glade Church, you can join in one the following ways:

• By receiving believer’s baptism (i.e. immersion) by which you are saying that you have received Christ.

• By “statement” that you have already received Christ and have received believer’s baptism.

• By simple transfer of your membership from another Baptist fellowship.

• Note: If you are a believer and you are coming from a church that does not practice baptism by immersion, you may join our church by simply being baptized here.

To learn more about the privileges and responsibilities of being a member of The Glade Church family you may visit the Next Step Center on any Sunday, attend a Next Step Orientation or visit our website (thegladechurch.org) and click on “Next Step” under the “New Here?” tab.

Christian context.
