Welcome! We live in a state that values our young people and embraces the concept of investing to ensure their success. One day that child may be the doctor who performs a lifesaving operation on a loved one, or the engineer who designs an automobile for the blind.

As the proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This Summit is to open the dialogue and begin the conversation on how our community can honor that covenant with our children.

Our community is comprised of educators, administrators, business leaders, workers, mentors and colleagues. We no longer live in silos, but in an interconnected, interdependent global society. We, and our children, must be able to understand, respect and communicate with, the amazing array of entities operating in our world today.

And we must expand our thinking to prepare the next generation for tomorrow’s global economy.

Thank you for being part of our inaugural Global Edu-Preneurs event, and for contributing to what I hope will become a blueprint for SUCCESS!

Let’s get to work.

Tying it All Together

Middle School : Changing School Technology Culture with Student LeadershipA Success Story from Valley View’s Mouse Squad students and their advisor, Mrs. Hawes.

Meet the students who provide tech support and instruction for teachers and peers at Valley View. With this service program, tech use has exploded on our campus. Teachers have more confidence in using technology with students, and the students have more options for accessing curriculum, collaborating, and demonstrating their learning because of this increased teacher support.

Jr/Sr High School: Business Plan CompetitionHigh School Business teachers, Gina Pixler and Terry Redkey join us from Quincy, CA to highlight their 3-course phases that culminate in a student competition at the site level with possibility for a monetary prize at the district or region finale, featuring video of students who completed the course this year followed by Q&A to help instructors implement in their classes.

WOW Classrooms: Best Practices Showcase “My Scary World” – Website Helps 8th

Graders Navigate to College & CareerWith encouragement and support, the 8 years following 8th grade can lead students to achieve goals, gain confidence and create their own success. Director of Gnosis Communications, Angela Cordell, will introduce us to CARL (Career Alien – Really Loveable), the enthusiastic alien character who helps students navigate through “My Scary World,” an interactive website that guides students through an exploration of possible careers, their own interests and life possibilities with videos, humor and fun – that feels more like playing a game.

Education that (Really!) Prepares Students for a Global EconomyDSN and CITD Director Leah Goold-Haws believes it is an exciting time to be in education and an even more exciting time to be involved in global education! She will share specifics on how the innovative programs on which she both leads and collaborates -- from the Global Edu-Preneur course modules with fresh ‘digital badging’ certification awards to the Virtual Internship pilot program with China – are helping educators better prepare our students for a dynamic, increasingly complicated global economy.
