Choose Love Social and Emotional
Learning (SEL) Awareness Month is a call to
action for educators, students, families and
communities to celebrate and promote the
importance of teaching children core
competencies and skills, beyond academics,
that can help them thrive socially, physically,
mentally and emotionally.
Social and Emotional Learning gives kids the
skills and tools they need to have healthy
connections and manage their emotions.
SEL is a proactive and preventative mental
health initiative that teaches kids:
• How to get along,
• How to have healthy and positive relationships,
• How to have deep and meaningful connections,
• Skills and tools for resilience,
• Emotional management,
Educators, parents and business owners/community
leaders can download a NO COST
toolkit containing posters, activity sheets, Choose
Love pledge and more.
Help extend the message to Choose Love and the
benefits of SEL by taking part in the Choose Love
SEL Awareness Month! See the calendar on the
next page for ideas that easily be incorporated each
day.

The Summit County Historical Society visited room 204 on January 23, 2019.
Mrs. Conley presented A River Through Time. Students learned about the Native
Americans who lived in Ohio. They were able to see and touch primary and
secondary sources.
Thank you to the wonderful volunteers from Lockheed Martin, Ohio Savings Bank and
Summit County Jobs and Family Services. These amazing volunteers brought JA in a Day
(Junior Achievement) to Glover CLC January 25th
and provided many fun, learning
activities for our children.

Judge Alison Breaux (pictured left of Santa) bought each classroom adorable erasers for each child
at our school. The children loved the erasers! In addition, Judge Breaux, Santa, and Santa’s helpers
delivered candy canes to all the students at Glover CLC. Thanks so much Judge Breaux, Santa, and
Santa’s helpers for thinking of us! We really enjoyed your visit and are truly grateful!
Thank you to LBJ Foundation volunteers and Little Tikes for giving children in grades K, 1, and 2
special gifts! The children were very excited with their new toy! Thank you for making it a great time
and for your generosity!

Turn It Around
As part of the Jesse Lewis CHOOSE LOVE Program, Miss Paulus and Room 204, write in their GRATITUDE
journals every Friday. Here are some of the entries.
“I am grateful for my family.” “I am grateful for living in a house.” “I am grateful for my mom and dad.”
“I am grateful for going to school” “I am grateful for my friends and teacher” “I am grateful for my mom”
“I am grateful for my class and shelter” “I am grateful for my teacher because she helps me learn”
“I am grateful my students arrived to school safely even though it was snowing.” “I am grateful for my teacher.”
“I am grateful for being here, for having people by my side, for having friends and a teacher, to get an education
and for having a family.”

Latoya Hollinshed
Latoya Hollinshed is a Customer Service Representative. She also is the mother of
4th grader Christopher Russell and 1st grader Layani Russell. Her responsibilities
include answering calls for different hospitals such as Lake Health, Mercy Medical
Center, Western Reserve and others. She also takes payments, verifies insurance, and
sets pay plans. Mrs. Hollinshed has been employed in this position for 1 year. She
attended college at Herzing University. Mrs. Hollinshed also attended Buchtel High
School and Rankin Elementary School. She chose this field of work because it is an area
that will continue to grow, which will benefit her family in the long run. The most exciting
thing about Mrs. Hollinshed’s job is speaking to different people every day. This can be a
bit challenging sometimes though, as there are so many different personalities involved.
During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children and having family fun
days. Mrs. Hollinshed also enjoys dancing. Her advice for students is to never give up
and to stay focused on your academics. She believes education is very important and
that you can go very far with the proper tools. Mrs. Hollinshed would like to say thank you
to Glover CLC for all that you do for our community!

Glover Sports Update Roger Turner and Jesse Jones Jr. are volunteers for The Safer Community Youth and Family Initiative (SCYFI).
They are a group of firemen and policemen that come into the schools to teach students the concept of a team in which
people come together and help each other. The students learn a pledge about family, school and pride. The pledge
states, “I represent myself, my family, my school, and my community with respect, dignity, and pride and strive for my
personal best each day.” The students also learn about bullying, gangs, character building, and how to be safe at
school. At the end of school year, students will earn a jersey and play a basketball game against other schools, such
as Portage Path and Helen Arnold.
