Barnett has worked in US national security circles since the end of the Cold War, starting first with the Department of Navy’s premier think tank, the Center for Naval Analyses. From there he moved to serve as a senior researcher and professor at the Naval War College in Newport RI, where he became a top assistant to Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowksi - the father of “network-centric warfare.” After 9/11, Barnett served in Cebrowski’s Office of Force Transformation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as the Assistant for Strategic Futures. He developed a famous PowerPoint brief on the subject of globalization and international security, which later morphed into a New York Times-bestseling book, “The Pentagon’s New Map: War and Peace in the Twenty-First Century” (2004). Since leaving government service in 2005, Dr. Barnett has amassed a number of duties in the private sector:

Don Coxe has more than 39 years of institutional investment experience in Canada and the US. He is Strategy Advisor to BMO Financial Group. He became post-merger president of Newmont Mining Corporation in 2002 – the world’s largest gold producer. From January to November 2007 Pierre was vice chairman of Newmont Mining Corporation. Geoff joined RBC Capital Markets in 2004 and is based in Sydney, Australia. He has been a highly rated gold and base metals mining and steel analyst in several institutional surveys. Geoff has a background in research, corporate finance and practical hands-on mining engineering. He has extensive experience in all aspects of mining finance in Australia and throughout the world, with almost 20 years in the financial industry with JP Morgan (and predecessor company Ord Minnett). Paul has over thirty years experience in various positions within the mining industry. Barry Cooper joined CIBC World Markets in May 1996 as a mining research analyst responsible for Junior Mining situations primarily for North American based companies.

The Junior Mining sector covers a wide range of commodities, services and products. As the sector became less of interest to institutional investors, he assumed senior coverage of the gold equities and bullion in 1998. His coverage now includes both Canadian listed and internationally listed gold producers with market capitalizations ranging from $400 million to over $40 billion.

Prior to joining CIBC World Markets he was employed by Cameco Corporation, which is the world’s largest producer of uranium. At Cameco, Mr. Cooper was responsible for the company’s gold diversification program primarily in North America, but also other parts of the world. Before joining Cameco, he worked as an exploration geologist in Western Canada and for Inco as a mine geologist at two of their nickel operations in Sudbury.

John Bridges is the senior analyst at JP Morgan, covering the North American precious metals space. He has been involved in precious metals stock evaluation since 1984 and before that was in mine management.Prior to joining Martin and Co, a heritage JP Morgan Chase company in 1987, Mr. Bridges was the senior analyst at Genbel, the investment arm of Gencor, a company that spun off assets into Billiton and went on to become BHP Billiton. Before Gencor, Mr. Bridges was in senior line management positions at Gold Field’s deep level South African gold mines, primarily Driefontein on the far west Rand. Mr. Bridges holds a B.Sc. and ACSM from the Camborne School of Mines in England, an MBA from the Cape Town Business School, and is a CFA charter holder. He has received a number of awards for his team’s work, most recently being judged the number one earnings estimator in the 2012 Thomson Reuters Starmine poll for the US Metals and Mining sector.

Tara Hassan is a Mining Research Analyst who covers junior precious metal companies. She is based in Toronto and joined the Haywood Securities research team in 2012.

Tara has worked as a Mining Analyst for more than five years with previous experience at National Bank Financial and prior to that at Toronto-based boutique investment bank, M Partners. In these roles, Tara initiated coverage on junior mining companies, recording a high success rate of identifying takeover targets and substantially undervalued companies. Before entering the financial services industry in 2007, Tara worked in the mining industry for Inco (now Vale) and Placer Dome (now Barrick Gold). Mike Jalonen is Senior Analyst and Global Coordinator Metals and Mining Global Research with the firm of Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Based in Toronto, Mike joined BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research in May 1989 as a gold analyst through the firm’s acquisition of Midland Walwyn. Mike was appointed Global Coordinator for the Metals and Mining group in February 2009.

Prior to joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Mike worked as a gold analyst with Dean Witter Canada for 18 months, as a financial analyst with Somicom Mining Management for close to two years and two years as an exploration geologist with Nanisivik Mines in the Northwest Territories.

Mike earned a B.Sc. Honours in Geology from the University of Windsor and earned his MBA from McMaster University. Mike is a highly ranked analyst in the annual Brendan Woods survey of the Canadian precious metals sector. Mike is also a CFA charterholder.

Ian is a resources analyst for Global Investment Research in Australia and New Zealand. He joined JBWere in 2000 as a research analyst covering the gold sector and added coverage of mid-cap base metal companies later that year. In 2004, Ian assumed responsibility for covering emerging small and mid-cap mining companies. He was named managing director in 2010.

Prior to joining the firm, Ian was a resource specialist, working on both the buy and sell sides of the financial services industry in Johannesburg and Brisbane. Following graduate school, he spent four years involved in the analysis and implementation of new mining projects in diverse metals. Earlier in his career, Ian worked on copper and gold mines in an operational and management capacity for six years.

Trevor Turnbull joined Scotia Capital in 2006 providing coverage  of  gold  producers and developers as well as the silver companies.  Mr. Turnbull is a geologist by training and spent nine years in industry both throughout North America  in addition to  Peru and Tanzania. Prior to starting with Scotia Capital, he covered gold and base metal mining companies with another investment dealer.

Mr. Turnbull was recently  named  #1 Top Gun, Precious Metals – Small/Mid-Cap Analyst 2010, Brendan Wood International and  recognized by the Wall Street Journal in this year’s Best on the Street – Mining and Metals.

Prior to joining BofAML, Mike worked for two plus years at another Toronto-based financial institution, as the associate to the Director of gold and precious metal equity research. Previous to his career in capital markets Mike worked for Stelco Inc. as the Senior Engineer for the Lake Erie Works steel making facility.

Mike has a Bachelor of Engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton and a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, Canada.
