2011 1-14 INFANTRY BATTALION ISSUE II NEWS FROM THE HOME FRONT G OLDEN DRAGONS Aloha, It was an honor to be selected as the new 1-14 IN BN, "Golden Dragons," Rear Detachment Commander I look forward to serving the "Golden Dragons" in every capacity that I can. Now that we are at the "Half Way" mark, we are going to be very busy with a number of different events and activities. Just coming from Iraq I wanted to let all the spouses and loved ones know how hard your "Golden Dragons" are working towards a unified Iraq during their "Advise, Train and Assist" effort. I know with my own experience that times could be difficult while I was there, but with strong support from my wife and other "Golden Dragon" families I pushed through. I would ask that everyone lift their heads up and push through these last few months in support of our Men and Woman who are forward in Iraq, and encourage them by participating in FRG events, Unit functions and in conversation with their Soldier. Words of encouragement can lift spirits to get them past those rough times and promote the health and welfare of every soldier serving in Iraq. I look forward to working with everyone and supporting the future return of our "Golden Dragons." Thank you and God Bless our troops. v/r LT Askins, Joel 1-14 IN BN Rear Detachment Commander 1-14 Infantry Battalion FRSA M. Aloha Valverde

HEADHUNTER FAMILIES:

I hope that everyone is doing well. This past holiday season has brought some great events within the BN and BDE. We had a wonderful turn-out at our Christmas party and I want to thank all of those that came out to participate as well as thank all of our volunteers that wrapped gifts during our annual PX gift wrapping fundraiser. A HUGE Mahalo to all of you that helped make it such a success. Don’t forget that each month the BN will get together for a walk/hike. Don’t forget to log your miles and turn them in by the end of each month.

REAPER FAMILIES,In the end of November, Alpha Company held a Thanksgiving potluck and holiday goodie bag stuffing party to put together cookie goodie bags to sendto our amazing soldiers downrange. There was a great turnout and fun was hadby all. The soldiers really appreciated their holiday goodies!! As we are nearing the midpoint of the deployment, many families have been enjoying quality time with their soldiers during R&R. We look forward to the halfway there beach day celebration and hope to see you there!!

ALOHA CHARLIE COMPANY AND FRIENDS

Another month has come and gone in this deployment and what a busy month it was! The fun-filled events that we participated in helped the time go by faster and it's always great to see familiar faces of support and catch up on what is happening with one another! We hope to see you at our upcoming FRG meeting!

Our Beloved Bushmasters, We hope that the newsletters and Facebook updates keep you up to date with all the happenings back here in Hawaii. These months seem to fly by which is great for all of us! We all know that as each month passes by, it’s one month closer to having you home all home. You can hear the excitement in all the spouses voices when re-deployment is mentioned, everyone is counting down the minutes until every single Soldier is back.We have had many new baby bushmasters in the past couple of months, and with that in mind, we realize that the number of parents is also increasing so we would like to send an extra word of love to all the new parents out there. Also, please

remember to let us know if you have recently had a new bundle of joy, as the Battalion sends a special gift to all the Golden Dragon babies and we want to make sure you receive one! I am sure being away from your little ones are hard but we are proud of all you do and your little ones are proud as well.We miss all of you over there and I can assure all of you that you are always in our thoughts and prayers. We are starting to gear up to send some more packages. Please let us know if there is anything that you need from the FRG, and remember, we are here to help where we can for you and your Family Members.

Congratulations! We’ve made it to the half way point! It’s all downhill from here. Give yourself a pat on the back or treat yourself to something nice. You deserve it! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Delta Company did some great things these past few months. We had our Thanksgiving Potluck where we filled our bellies and got a chance to speak with Captain Hart! We also put together some great stockings to send our Soldiers for Christmas! Thank you for all the donations! We had breakfast with Santa and we completed our first fundraiser as a company! With the help of some very special ladies from the dragon family, we were able to raise money to send Valentine’s Day packages to our guys and have some left over for future use! I hope everyone was able to bring in the New Year with a bang! This is going to be a great year! This is the year, our Soldiers come home! For now, everyone stay strong and continue to support our Delta Company Ohana! We’re half way there!
