Last season in St. Paul, Gustavus got off to a quick start and used a strong all-around effort, including two special teams scores, to defeat the Pipers 42-14. LAST TIME OUT: Trailing by one with 30 seconds to play and the ball on its own 22 yard line, the odds were stacked against the Gustavus football team in Concordia last Saturday. Michael Veldman took a snap and ended up scrambling left from the pocket before unleashing a deep ball on the run that traveled 50 yards in the air and was caught in stride by Josh Kirk on the left sideline, which he was able to take in for the score. The Gusties fell behind early and went into the second quarter trailing 14-0. Although in quarter number two the Cobbers held the ball for over 10 minutes, the Gusties were able to strike twice to even things at 14 going into the half. The third quarter was once again controlled by the Cobbers as they notched the lone score to go up 21-14, but Gustavus came out strong in the fourth. The Black and Gold scored less than two minutes into the quarter to even things at 21, and then scored again less than five minutes later to take a 27-21 lead. The extra snap on their second extra point was botched though, and the Gusties held their six-point lead. After a Cobber three-and-out, the Gusties got the ball back, but a Veldman interception gave the ball back to the Cobbers with 6:34 to play. The Cobbers then grinded out 12 plays for 39 yards in nearly five and a half minutes to score and go up 28-27 with just over a minute to play. Two penalties on the final Gustavus possession pushed the Gusties back to their own seven yard line, where Veldman connected with Kirk on third and long for 15 yards to put the ball at the 22 yard line and set up the final touchdown. Concordia got the ball back with eight seconds but couldn’t muster any yardage as the Gusties took the victory. The win at Concordia was the first win for Gustavus in Moorhead since 2010. Veldman also threw for the most yards of any Gustie quarterback ever against Concordia with 405 yards, while Josh Kirk’s 233 receiv- ing yards are the second most in a game in school history. @GustieAthletics gustieathletics GustavusAthletics gusties

GAME NOTES

SCOUTING THE GUSTIESGustavus is coming off its first MIAC win of the season after defeating Concordia 35-28 last Saturday. The Gusties fell be-hind early but used a 21-point fourth quarter, capped by a miraculous 78-yard completion from Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) to Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) with less than 30 seconds remaining to gain the lead and eventual seal the victory.

Through five games, the Gusties average 36.0 points and 402.0 yards of total offense per game. On defense, Gustavus allows 29.2 points and 341.2 yards per game. The Gusties have been the most successful MIAC team in the red zone this season, scoring touchdowns on 20-of-24 possessions (83 percent), which is 14 percent higher than the next best conference foe.

Veldman has aired it out more than any other quarterback in the MIAC, completing 112-of-176 (63.6 percent) attempts for 1,671 yards and 16 touchdowns to go along with eight inter-ceptions. Veldman’s yards, touchdowns, and completions all rank first in the MIAC. Kirk and Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg) are the only two pass catchers in the conference averaging 100-plus receiving yards per contest with Kirk at 118.0 per game and Panning averaging 101.2. Kirk has 35 catches for 590 yards and three touchdowns, while Panning has 33 re-ceptions for 506 yards and MIAC-best 10 touchdowns.

Jake Boykin (Sr., Las Cruces, N.M.) and Zach Jakes (So., Mankato) lead the defense this season with 33 and 31 tack-les, respectively, with Jakes having a team-best 2.5 tackles for loss. Jake Krull (Sr., Plymouth) has been the team’s top tackler in the secondary, recording 28 tackles to go along with one interception, while Kaleb Scott (Jr., Gardena, Calif.) has two interceptions and five pass deflections to lead the team.

SCOUTING THE PIPERSHamline is coming off a 14-7 loss to Carleton last Saturday. The Pipers outgained the Knights 366-233 in the contest, but turned the ball over on downs five times, had an intercep-tion, and a fumble lost in the contest.

Through six games, the Pipers average 10.2 points and 250.2 yards per game. Defensively, they allow 41.0 points and 477.5 yards against per contest. The Pipers have converted on fourth down a MIAC-most 10 times this season and also recovered a league-high seven fumbles.

Offensively, the Pipers have seen three different players at quarterback, with Connor Leavens being the team’s top passer. Leavens has completed 73-of-135 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns, but has been intercepted sev-en times. Manny Moton has also seen a healthy amount of time under center but has been more of a runner, rushing

37 times for 104 yards and a score, while only throwing 35 passes. Terrell Jones is the team’s top back, rushing 36 times for 161 yards and a touchdown. Triston Thomas and Tanner Lunceford lead the team in receiving with 34 and 29 receptions, respectively, with Thomas owning a team-high 388 yards.

The Pipers are led defensively by linebacker Monty Stenroos, who has totaled 53 tackles including five for loss. Carson Re-inard has also been tough at the linebacker position in his first year, totaling 44 tackles. Chip Kindt has been the team’s top pass rusher this season with two sacks.

HALL OF FAME WEEKENDToday’s game is designated as Hall of Fame Day at Holling-sworth Field as the College’s Athletics Department has se-lected nine individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2019 class of inductees include Luke Benoit `04 (Golf), Molly Biehn Becker `04 (Softball), Mike Gempeler `91 (Hockey), Raman Jayapathy `85 (Tennis), Neil Johnson `04 (Golf), Jackie Luehmann `04 (Track & Field), Angie Peterson Potts `04 (Basketball), and Kristin Petersen Smith `04 (Track & Field).

MORE AIR IN MOORHEADLast Saturday in Moorhead, the combination of quarter-back Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) and receiver Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) were in sync to post numbers that are rarely achieved. Veldman completed 21-of-32 passes for 405 yards, the most yards ever thrown by a Gustie quarterback at Con-cordia. Kirk was Veldman’s top target, catching nine passes for 233 yards and the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Kirk’s 233 receiving yards are the second most in a single game in program history, trailing only Chad Arlt’s 252 receiving yards against Augs-burg in 2007.

HOME SWEET HOMESince the 2013 season, Gustavus owns a 20-12 record at Hollingsworth Field. The Gusties finish this year’s campaign with three home games out of their last five, taking on Hamline today, Carleton on Nov. 2, and St. Olaf on Nov. 16. Gustavus looks to improve its home record after boasting a 17-1 record against the Pipers, Oles, and Knights over the past six seasons.

2019 GAME RECAPS

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus football team opened its season on Saturday afternoon with a decisive 50-19 victory over Martin Luther College. For the second year in a row the Knights were able to strike first, but a first half offensive outburst pushed the Gusties through.

“It was a good offensive effort,” said Head Coach Peter Haugen. “There were a couple spots where we got discombobulated and didn’t execute the way that we wanted too, but for the most part I loved what we did. Defensively, against their offense you have to be really dis-ciplined and that’s something early that we had to tighten up. Our defense did a really nice job and turned the ball over and that’s fun to see. The statistics are are staggering when you win the turnover battle and we know it’s really important. Our coaches did a nice job getting these guys ready to go and I can’t give our players enough credit for their efforts. Thankful for the win and proud of our guys, certainly plenty of things we’ll have to get better with but that’s how it is every week.”

Martin Luther received the opening kickoff and the Gusties were able to get a stop, however, the ensuing punt hit a Gustavus player in the foot and the Knights were able to recover. Mar-tin Luther then ran seven plays, including a big fourth down conversion before they punched in an eight yard rush to score the first points of the game. The Knights missed the extra point to make the score 6-0.

Gustavus was quick to respond though when Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin, Minn.) returned the en-suing kickoff 81 yards to the Martin Luther 15-yard line to set the Gusties up in good field position. It didn’t take long for the duo of Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker, Minn.) and Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg, Minn.) to find their groove as Veldman found Panning for a 15 yard touchdown on the first play of the drive. Kirk then caught a pass from Veldman to give the Gusties a 8-6 lead.

Martin Luther got two first downs on their next drive before the Gusties got a stop and forced a punt. A 64-yard pass from Veldman to Kirk got the Gusties to the one yard line before Veldman ran it in himself on the next play to push the score to 14-6. Another successful two point conversion put the Gusties up 10.

Quarter number two was all Gustavus as they were able to extend their lead before half. To start the quarter the Gusties put together a long drive, with Panning notching his second touchdown of the game before the extra point put the Gusties up 23-6. Midway through the second quarter, Veldman connected with David Peal (So., Worchester, Mass.) for a 56 yard completion to the two yard line before Peal plowed one in from two yards out for his first score of the season and to make the score 29-6. On Gustavus’ next possession Veldman connected with Kirk for 36 yards before finding Panning once again for his third touchdown of the game to put the Gusties up 36-6 after the PAT, a score they would hold into halftime

The third quarter was slow with Martin Luther eating a large chunk of the clock with a 17-play drive resulting in their second touchdown of the game to bring the score to 36-12.The Gusties responded quickly though, scoring early in the fourth quarter on another Peal run from six yards out to go up 43-12. Gustavus’s defense was then able to score a touchdown as a Lucas

Oleson (So., South St. Paul, Minn.) sack forced a fumble that was recovered by Nicolas Negron (So., Garland, Texas) for a touchdown.

The Knights would score on their final possession of the game before the Gusties ran out the clock for the 50-19 victory.

Veldman was 18-of-27 in the contest for 353 yards with three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Peal and Dalton Thelen (So., Cold Spring, Minn.) led the ground attack with 48 and 42 yards respectively. Panning caught six passes for 118 yards and three touch-downs while Kirk had six catches for 119 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball Kaleb Scott (Jr., Gardena, Calif.) and Jake Krull (Sr., Plym-outh, Minn.) both recorded an interception in the contest. Zach Jakes (So., Mankato, Minn.) led the team with eight tackles, while Ezekiel Sundberg (So., Lakewood, Colo.) had seven.

The Gusties will be in action again next Saturday when they take on UW-Stout for a 1:05 p.m. contest in Menomonie, Wis.

2019 GAME RECAPS

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Gustavus football team looked strong in all facets on Saturday as they took down UW-Stout 41-31 at Don & Nona Williams Stadium in Menomonie, Wis. With the win the Gusties move to 2-0 on the season while the Blue Devils fall to 0-2.

“It was a strong overall effort for the team today,” said Head Coach Peter Haugen. “Key turnovers by our defense and our offense made some big plays and sustained a key six to seven minute drive in the fourth quarter. We played with great energy and had great support from our fans.”

After forcing a three and out on the first possession of the contest, Gustavus was able to march down the field thanks to two connections from Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) to Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) before the duo connected again for a third time, this one finding the end zone to put the Gusties up 6-0. A two-point conversion rush by Veldman put Gustavus up 8-0.

Stout would answer on the next possession with a long drive resulting in an 18-yard touch-down run and successful two-point conversion to even things at eight. Early in the second quarter, a Gustavus fumble gave the ball to Stout around midfield where the Blue Devils took a deep shot on their first play and scored, converting the extra point to make the score 15-8.

The rest of the second quarter was all Gustavus as the Gusties responded two possessions after the Blue Devils score with an 11 play, 51-yard drive capped off by a Veldman touchdown rush to bring the score to 15-14. Veldman’s two-point conversion pass though was intercept-ed and returned all the way by Stout to push the Blue Devils to a 17-14 lead.

On the second play of the ensuing Blue Devil possession, Avery Bachman (Sr., Saint Peter) re-corded his first interception of the year to give the ball back to the Black and Gold. The Gusties took advantage as Veldman connected with Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg) for 36 yards and then 17 yards, with the second connection finding the end zone to put the Gusties up 21-17.

With less than four minutes left in the half, Gustavus forced another three-and-out and blocked the punt to start in good field position again, getting the ball at the UW-Stout 12. After two plays David Peal (So., Worchester, Mass.) was able to plow in from the three yard line to extend the Gusties lead to 28-17 going into the half.

After the half, Gustavus received the kickoff and marched down the field, before Veldman found Kirk in the back left corner of the endzone to put the Black and Gold up 35-17. After a Blue Devil three-and-out, the Gusties were able to march down the field again for another touchdown drive, this one capped off by a Veldman touchdown run to put Gustavus up 41-17.

With the Gusties holding a 25-point lead, the Blue Devils were able to get two scores late in the game to bring the score to 42-31, but the Gusties would run the clock out and take home

the victory.

Veldman had an all-around solid day, going 18-of-28 for 249 yards and three touchdowns. The Becker native also carried the ball eight times for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Peal toted the rock 22 times for 60 yards and a touchdown to lead the rushing attack. Kirk led the receiving corps with eight catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns while Panning had six catches for 94 yards and one score.

The Gustie defense had a good performance, with Kolt Gorg (Sr., Blue Earth) recording a team-high eight tackles and a sack. Austin Fest (Jr., West Des Moines, Iowa), Kaleb Scott (Jr., Gardena, Calif.), and Bachman all recorded interceptions for the Gusties on the day.

2019 GAME RECAPS

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Gustavus football team traveled to No. 4 Saint John’s on Saturday and fell by a score of 33-21. With the loss the Gusties fall to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the MIAC while the Johnnies move to 2-0 and 1-0 in the conference.

The game started with the Johnnies driving down the field with a nine-play, 41-yard drive that resulted in a 29-yard missed field goal. On the ensuing Gustie possession, Michael Veld-man was intercepted for the first time this season and the Johnnies took over at the Gustavus 48-yard line. Saint John’s would capitalize and score on the next possession to take an early 7-0 lead.

The Gusties would respond though with a great drive of their own as they went on a 10 play, 79-yard drive capped off with a Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker, Minn.) 29-yard touchdown pass to Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg, Minn.) to even things at seven.

The scoring didn’t stop there though, as the Johnnies quickly responded with a touchdown less than two minutes later thanks to a 26 yard completion followed by a 57 yard score to go back up 14-7.

Gustavus answered the call once again, as they went on a 12-play, 73 yard drive that saw Brayton Finch (Sr., Mount Morris, Ill.) catch his first touchdown of the season to even the score at 14 with 8:20 remaining in the second quarter. The Johnnies continued to prove the potency of their offense as they went on a methodical 12-play, 72 yard drive capped off by a two-yard touchdown pass to push their lead to 21-14 just before the half.

The Gusties were able to drive late before the half but Veldman’s pass from the SJU 21 with time expiring was intercepted and left the score at 21-14 going to the the half.

The second half turned into more of a defensive battle from both teams as the first three possessions of the half were three-and-outs. After their second consecutive defense stand the Johnnies had good field position and got all the way down to the Gustavus one-yard line and on fourth and goal from a yard out the Gusties stuffed the run attempt and notched a goal line stand.

The Gusties, from deep in their own territory would get some breathing room before punt-ing, but the Johnnies quick-striking offense would return as they scored from the 50 yard line in just two plays. The extra point was blocked so the lead held at 27-14.

Gustavus felt the urgency to find the end zone again though, as they were able to put to-gether a solid drive capped off by Panning’s second touchdown, this one 24-yards to pull the game to 27-21.

Saint John’s looked like it was about to answer as they put together a solid drive and had the ball in the red zone. The Johnnies had the ball on the 10 yard-line and and completed a pass and just before the Saint John’s player could reach the end zone Landon Rauen (Jr., Zumbro-ta) came in and forced a fumble that Austin Fest (Jr., West Des Moines, Iowa) recovered in the end zone for a touchback

The Gusties had their chance to even things up or take the lead on the ensuing drive but on third and eight the Johnnies recorded a strip sack and recovered the fumble on the 10-yard line. On the next play from scrimmage they were able to find a receiver coming across the middle of the field for the score and to take a 33-21 lead. The Gusties were able to stop the two-point conversion try to keep the lead at 12.

With 7:22 remaining the Gusties took over needing a score to keep the game in reach. They were able to put together a solid drive, getting the ball to the Saint John’s 30-yard line before the Johnnies got a stop as the Gusties tried a hook-and-ladder on fourth down and long to force a turnover on downs. The Johnnies then ran out the last 4:37 of game time with seven consecutive rushes and two kneel downs to put the game away.

The Johnnies out-gained the Gusties 459-355 in terms of total yardage in the contest. The Gustavus pass attack totaled 395 yards but the Black and Gold had -40 rush yards as Veldman was sacked seven times in the game for 53 yards.

Veldman was 33-of-48 for 395 yards, with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The re-ceiving trio of Finch, Panning and Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) all caught at least eight passes in the contest with Panning leading the way with eight catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively Jake Krull (Sr., Plymouth) led Gustavus with nine tackles while Fest had five to go along with a fumble recovery and two pass breakups.

2019 GAME RECAPS

SAINT PETER, Minn. – In a fourth quarter that would see 40 points scored, it would be the two-point margin that Bethel held in the quarter that would prove to be the difference in the Gustavus football teams 35-33 loss to the Royals. With the loss, the Gusties fall to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC while Bethel improves to 3-0 and 1-0 in the conference.

“We knew it was going to be a competitive game,” said Head Coach Peter Haugen. “I loved what we did early on that fourth down when we got that stop, it really changed the mo-mentum and then we just hung in there. We had a shot at the end with a nice drive down the field but turnovers are the day. They’re always tough things but we’ll learn from it, and get back at it.”

The Gusties received the opening kickoff, but an interception early on gave the Royals the ball in Gustavus territory. The Royals made quick work of the short field and a quarterback sneak for a score put them up 7-0. After three consecutive three-and-outs between both teams the Royals gained possession and went on a 10-play, 68-yard drive capped off by a 10-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0.

After Bethel forced another Gustie punt, on their ensuing possession the Royals went for it on fourth and short in their own territory and the Gusties held pat and started in good field position. The Gusties capitalized when David Peal (So., Worchester, Mass.) ran one in from two yards out to put Gustavus on the board and bring the score to 14-7.

The two teams would trade possession late in the first half with neither team entering the red zone and they went to the break with the Royals on top 14-7. In the first half Bethel out-gained Gustavus in total yards 155-89.

The second half started out with the Royals in possession. Bethel completed a pass on their second play of the half, but Graham Nistler (So., St. Cloud) was able to force a fumble that would be recovered by the Gusties to give them possession. However, the next pass from Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) was intercepted and the Royals took back over. With the Royals in the red zone, Gustavus would hold them and force a field goal attempt from 32 yards out that was missed and kept it a one score game.

The two teams played stout defense the next two possessions before the Gusties took over with 7:05 remaining in the third quarter. Gustavus marched down the field in two minutes and 15 seconds as Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg) caught his seventh touchdown of the year to even things at 14 all. Bethel responded though, using the ground game and a timely completion to march down the field and they punched in a score on the first play of the fourth quarter to go up 21-14.

Gustavus answered with a third down 36-yard completion from Veldman to Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin, Minn.) that kept the the drive alive before Dalton Thelen (So., Cold Spring, Minn.) caught his first touchdown of the season to even things at 21. On the ensuing kickoff the Gusties executed a pooch kick that the Royals weren’t prepared for that hit one of their blockers and the Gusties recovered to get the ball at the Bethel 30.

Gustavus once again made quick work of the short field as Brayton Finch (Sr., Mount Morris, Ill.) caught a six-yard reception for a score to give the Gusties the lead. The extra point snap was botched, and the point after try was no good so the Gusties held a 27-21 lead.

The Royals made quick work on their next possession, going 65 yards in three minutes and nine seconds to score and the extra point put them ahead 28-27. After the Royals kicked off, the first Gustavus play of the ensuing possession was intercepted and returned inside the Gustavus 20. The Royals went to the ground and eventually found the end zone to go up

35-27.

With time winding down the Gusties had one last possession to try to find the end zone and a successful two-point conversion. Veldman found Panning a few times to get the ball into Bethel territory. After Veldman ran a quarterback draw on third and short to gain a first down, he found Panning again on the following play to get the ball inside the 10 yard line. On second and goal, Veldman lofted one to the left corner of the endzone and Panning made an incredible one handed catch to bring the score to 35-33. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful though. The onside kick by the Gusties gave them a chance as they were able to get the ball loose and on the ground but the Royals recovered and kneeled out the clock for the victory.

Veldman was 22-for-41 in the contest with 269 yards passing, four touchdowns, and four in-terceptions, while his top target Brice Panning had nine catches for 122 yards and two scores. Peal led the ground attack with 14 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Jake Krull (Sr., Plymouth) led the team with nine tackles while Avery Bachman (Sr., Saint Peter) and Jake Boykin (Sr., Las Cruces, N.M.) both had seven with Bachman having one tackle for loss.

2019 GAME RECAPS

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Trailing by one with 30 seconds to play and the ball on its own 22 yard line, the odds were stacked against the Gustavus football team. Michael Veldman (Sr., Beck-er) took a snap and ended up scrambling left from the pocket before unleashing a deep ball on the run that traveled 50 yards in the air and was caught by Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) on the left sideline, which he was able to take in for the score.

“Great effort today by our players,” said Head Coach Peter Haugen. “We stayed positive and poised after some adversity. Concordia was strong all day but were able to hang in there and play big in the fourth quarter. Today was a total team effort.”

It didn’t look great early on for the Gusties as they fumbled on the second play of the game and the Cobbers returned it to the one yard line, scoring on the ensuing play to go up 7-0. The Gusties would punt on their second possession and Concordia would stick to its game plan and rush on all 11 plays in the drive for another score to go up 14-0.

The Gusties then went on a 12-play, 75 yard drive capped off by a David Peal (So., Worches-ter, Mass.) one yard score. They would stop the Cobbers on their next possession and keep their momentum rolling, as Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg) caught his ninth touchdown of the season to even things up at 14.

The Cobbers couldn’t score on their next possession as time in the first half ran out and the two teams went to the break tied at 14. Gustavus out-gained Concordia in the first half 128-88.

In half number two the Cobbers received the kickoff and they went 70 yards in seven plays to retake a 21-14 lead. Veldman was intercepted on the following possession but Concordia was pinned deep in their own territory and went three-and-out. With the Cobbers forced to punt from their endzone the Gusties began their next drive in good field position. Gustavus would then go on a 10-play, 45 yard drive, capped off by Dalton Hermes’ (Fy., Oregon, Ill.) first collegiate touchdown run to even things at 21-21.

The Gusties would force a punt on the next Cobber possession and get the ball on their own 20. Veldman found Kirk for 50 yards before connecting with Panning for thirty yards on the next play for the score and to give Gustavus their first lead of the game at 27-21. The Gusties missed the extra point and held a six-point lead with 8:52 remaining in the game.

The Gustie defense would hold strong and force another punt, but a Veldman interception gave the Cobbers good field position. Concordia capitalized, punching in a score with 1:08 to play and to take a 28-27 lead.

The Gusties would receive the ensuing kickoff and get called for holding to start their pos-session on their own 12-yard line. A false start would push them back to the seven before Veldman connected with Kirk for 15 yards to put the ball on the 22 to set up the final scoring play for the Gusties. After Kirk’s touchdown grab, Panning caught a two-point conversion to push the Gustavus lead to 35-28. The Cobbers got the ball back with eight seconds left and ran two plays but neither netted them any yards as Gustavus took the victory.

In the contest, Gustavus had 426 yards of total offense while they held the Cobbers to just

228. It was through the air that the Gusties won the contest, as they threw for 395 yards, while Concordia didn’t complete it a pass.

Veldman threw for the most yards of any Gustavus quarterback ever at Concordia as he was 21-of-32 for 395 yards and three touchdowns. Kirk had nine catches for 233 yards and a score, with his yardage being the second most in Gustavus football program history. Brayton Finch (Jr., Mount Morris, Ill.) had seven catches for 97 yards for the Black and Gold while Panning had four catches for 55 yards and two scores. Hermes led the rushing attack with eight carries for 30 yards and his first score of the season.

Jake Boykin (Sr., Las Cruces, N.M.) and Zach Jakes (So., Mankato) led the defense with eight tackles each, with Jakes recording a tackle for loss, while Zeke Erickson and Jake Krull (Sr., Plymouth) each had seven tackles.

With the win the Gusties improve to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC while the Cobbers fall to 3-3. The win in Moorhead is the first win for Gustavus at Concordia since 201o, when the Gusties defeated Concordia 38-10 on Oct. 2.
