Where has the year gone? There was no shortage of places to ride to this year, just a shortage of available days for some of us. This makes it important to plan ahead for the coming year and block the time needed to ride to places and events that interest you. The ride and event schedules will be up on the website soon so check http:// onq.regionk.ca/events.html for details. We will try to ride more to the Western side of our chapter this coming year if you help with restaurant and destination ideas towards the Oshawa area. On the biking side, the roads are still great after the morning chill burns off so I hope you get a chance to ride a couple more times this year; this coming week will be in near double digits again. Just watch out for slippery paint lines and shadows that could be leaves or black ice. Rode my bike to West City Powersports today for the brake recall and while I was glad for the seat heater and chaps it was good to be out again. Some people have already forgotten to look for bikes and I had to stave off a “Bluehair” in a Sonata who tried to pass me on the right in the curb lane !! If your baby has not already been put to bed please be careful. Watch for seminars this Winter to help prepare your mind for the new season. Speaking of great days to come, block booked rooms are available for our Region Ral- ly in Woodstock, 22-24 July 2016, some people are considering the Region L (Atlantic) rally as well which is in Truro NS, 28-31 July. Hello everyone,This is it, the end of another year! The executive has planned the dinner nights and some of the activities for next year. Any-one with some good winter activities, please come forward, or if you would like to host an event, contact Judy Archbold at 613-

The sign up sheets for the next dinner night at the Royal Coachman, Napanee was circulated with 12 already signed up.November 24th brings us to Boston Pizza with dinner at 6:30 and time for shopping or movie before or after.December 5th Christmas party at 413 Wing. 230 North Murray st. 6:00 for cocktails, 7:00 dinner and entertainment to follow. THE WILL

Jim is on his deathbed and knows the end is near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and two sons are with him.

He asks for two witnesses to be present and a camcorder to be in place to record his last wishes, and when all is ready he begins to speak: "My son Charles, I want you to take the Mayfair houses.""My daughter Sybil, you take the apartments over in the east end." "My son Jamie, I want you totake the offices over in the City Center.""Violet, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the river."

The nurse and witnesses are blown away as they did not realize his extensive holdings, and as Jim slips away, the nurse says, "Mrs. Rutledge, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property".

Violet replies, "Property? ... The idiot has a paper route!"

W inter comes, winter goes; Mother Nature can’t seem to make up her mind. I’ve not heard of anyone being under the weather so I hope everyone is avoiding colds & sniffles and that you all have had your flu shot. Al Randall is coping well with his

daily treatments in Kingston. Let’s hope it stays sunny and warmish so those germs will stay away!Sorry to have missed the meeting on Sunday but family duties sometimes interfere. We wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a healthy & Happy New Year! Here’s an appetizer recipe I found in my favourite Christmas cookbook. Friday morning we leave Greenville behind us. Along with Wayne & Lois, Laurie & Sylvia, we head east into the Appalachian foothills, to work up an appetite for breakfast. Somehow I find breakfast more enjoyable after riding for a half-hour or so. Soon we come to a small town called Pickens where I pull a hasty U-turn in front of a restau-

rant. The street has a severely sloping shoulder near the curb and I nearly dump the bike trying to get off. Everybody laughs except Sylvia who still remembers getting dumped off their bike on the way to Greenville. We enter the restau-rant which proves to be my favourite type: an old building, rickety floors, antique pressed metal ceiling last painted in 1956, assorted jugs, pulleys hay-rakes and other antiques hanging from the walls, good food and lots of character. Lau-rie and Sylvia are obviously nervous. They are accustomed to eating at Denny’s or MacDonald’s and are distinctly averse to eating in any establishment which does not seem to be on the state health inspectors list.

We assure them that it is OK as we sit down and order. While eating we discuss plans for the trip home. Laurie and Sylvia will head up to Cherokee and take the Blue Ridge Parkway north.Wayne and Lois will accompany us as far as Franklin where Wayne wants to visit a business acquaintance. Doris and I will head west to Chattanooga. Laurie thinks he has found a hair in his egg. Sylvia loses her appetite.

After a while we are moving again, waving goodbye to our friends as we head toward the North Carolina line, into the ever increasing splendor of the Great Smokey Mountains. Moving west on route 64 in a slight rain shower we meet a familiar bike. It is Laurie and Sylvia. It seems they took a wrong turn out of Pickens and got lost. After a brief exchange on the CB they are gone. The mountains prevent more than a mile or so of communication. We motor on as the rain clears up and the sun turns the dampness to mist on the mountaintops.

The road twists and turns among the mountains through a couple of gas and ice-cream stops. (I always gain ten pounds on a two-week bike trip). In early afternoon we crest a mountain ridge and spot a scenic look-out park on the right. I wave to Wayne as I hit the brakes and pull into the parking area and he follows us in for a bit of a leg-stretch. About a hundred yards up the trail Doris stops and sits down on a big rock. “I don’t feel like climbing a mountain”. She says, “I’ll wait here till you come back.” Since it will only be a few minutes to the top I go on with Wayne and Lois. The full significance of this incident will not be clear for another year.

The few minutes turns into a half hour. The lookout is a good mile up the mountain. The view is ok but not worth the effort. We retrace out steps back down the mountain where Doris is waiting. In a few minutes we are on the road again, and a while later we reach Franklin. We stop at the town park and say goodbye to Wayne and Lois over a cool drink. We have a week of vacation left and tentatively hope to see Memphis before going home, so we are soon heading for the Ten-nessee border. We spotted a campground on the map and we want to get the tent set up before dark.

The road west from Franklin is straighter than before so we make good time. We stop in Murphy for supper, before heading on to Hanging Dog, where the campground is.The restaurant is small, the patrons colorful. Our bike attracts attention. “Yew came all the way from Canada on thet thang?” Outside the restaurant we see people picking fruit from a tree. I ask a local at the counter what they are.

“Wha them’s plums. Y’all can pick some if’n yew wawnts.” I thank him for the tip and take our burgers to a table. We eat while choking with laughter listening to the conversation of some of the most endearing people we have encountered at the next table. As we are finishing our coffee the man who we questioned about the plums approaches our table, pre-senting us with a double handful of juicy yellow plums. “Y’all kin hev these if’n yew wawnts” and dumps them on the table. He seems too shy to engage in conversation and soon disappears. The plums are succulent; we devour them all.

An hour later the tent is set up and we relax for a while before turning in. The price of a campsite at Hanging Dog is four bucks, but the facilities are sparse. It is a forty yard hike to the water faucet and the John. Shortly after we bed down for the night Doris comes to the realization that we should have washed the plums before eating them. She makes that forty yard hike many times during the night. My chuckles at her discomfort turn to chagrin about daylight; my re-action to the plums was only delayed for a few hours. We stop every twenty miles on the road to Chattanooga.

GL 1800 SERVICE RECALLThe formal notice of the GL-1800 brake recall has been released and owners can expect to receive a letter from Honda Canada soon. However, Honda dealerships are ramping up for the recall by or-dering parts and if you call your dealer and provide the VIN of your bike or trike, they will make an appointment to swap out the parts. Details are in the Honda service bulletin attached to this email.

For the Belleville area, West City Power Sports expects the first of the parts to arrive on Friday and they are making appointments for the following week onwards. For those of you who have already put your machines to bed for the Winter you will be able to have the recall fix implemented in the Spring.
