Founded 1882. Enrollment: 1,450 from 45 states and 30 nations; Student-faculty ratio: 10:1; Average class size:16. About 75 percent of Whitman students live on campus.

Overall graduation rate of 89 percent and first-year to sophomore retention rate of 94 percent – both among the highest in the nation.

Facilities reflect Whitman’s excellence and devotion to students: the library, health center and computer labs are open 24/7, a $15.5 million renovation to the athletic center was completed in 2009, and renovation to the Harper Joy Theatre is under way.

Award-winning students include 47 Fulbright Scholars, 10 Watson Fellows, seven Udall Scholars, four Truman Scholars, four National Science Foundation Fellows and one Rhodes Scholar since 1999.
